Sparring

All UBB matches go to three points; no time limit. Black belt division matches go to five (5) points. In the event of a tie, the first point
awarded in sudden-death wins. One (1) point is awarded for both kicks and punches. A majority of voting judges is required to confirm a
point. Each judge has an equal vote. A "No-See" disqualifies a judge from voting on a point.

All sparring competitors must wear groin protectors, mouth guards, and foam-type hand, foot, and head protectors.

No jewelry of any kind may be worn during competition.

No contact is allowed to the spine, kidneys or against the joints . Controlled, light contact is allowed "above the belt" in
Intermediate divisions & up No direct face contact in any division One (1) excessive contact violation draws a
warning. Two (2) excessive contact violations result in a point awarded to the opponent. Automatic disqualification follows any intentional or
malicious contact resulting in injury. The groin is not a legal striking target in Black belt division matches.

No open-hand techniques, sweeps or throws are allowed in non-Black belt division matches.

Three (3) ring boundary violations (running out of the ring) result in a point awarded to the opponent. Both feet must be judged to be out of
the ring for the competitor to be in violation. Each violation thereafter results in a point awarded to the opponent.

No spinning back fists are allowed under black belt. A spinning back fist (in BB division) thrown as a means of "bailing out" without control or
focus is grounds for disqualification. Controlled spinning back kicks are allowed in all divisions.

Each competitor must be present at the proper ring prior to the beginning of the event and may not leave until after participation. No
competitor may enter an event after it has started.

Attitude problems are not tolerated in any competitor at any rank; disqualification follows any indication of disrespect. We expect all
participants and spectators to refrain from un-sportsmanship-like conduct.
 Equipment: Foam safety equipment, foot/hand/head gear, chest protection (encouraged) mouthpiece and groin protection mandatory!
Forms





A restart of any form automatically incurs a one (1) point penalty. TIE: students may do the same form w/o penalty
Judges must give competitors their undivided attention when viewing a form; they must not allow surrounding activity to detract from their
ability to judge effectively, consistently, and fairly.
All scores are displayed for competitors.
Three (3)-competitors will execute their forms before any scores are given. At that point, each competitor will return to the ring one-at-a-time
to receive a score. This should create a consistent scoring standard, eliminating any disadvantage the first several competitors may
otherwise have.
Dropping or otherwise losing control of a weapon results in disqualification (light incidental floor should not be penalized)
