Lothersdale Talent Search
This year we will be holding a Talent Competition to raise money
for Children in Need. It costs only 50p to enter per act but you
don’t have to enter. There will be three rounds and the final will
be performed in front of the school.
The auditions (the first round) will be held on Monday 17
November 2014. You can dance, sing, act, tell jokes, do tricks ~
anything you like! At each round you will perform the latest version of your act in front of
the four judges (Lizzy, Olivia, Alice and Amber), who will give a comment and some advice
for your act and there will be a presenter (Eleanor).
This is your chance to show everyone how great you are and to shine ~ we would love you
all to compete. Remember that Ellis won the last Talent Competition when he was in
Reception class!!!

What’s Happening in the Classroom and Beyond?
Class 4 Residential Visit to Marrick Priory
Class 4 will be setting off on their week’s residential to Marrick Priory near Reeth on
Monday and we hope they will all have an enjoyable and dry week! The kit list can be found
on the school website under the Class 4 section, if you have mislaid your copy.
Extended Schools Activities Week Commencing 10 November 2014
Due to the Class 4 Residential Visit taking place next week, please note the following clubs
will not be taking place:
Tuesday - Wool Craft
Wednesday – Drama
All other clubs will be running as normal. Miss Elliott will be taking Monday’s Running Club,
with support from Mrs Lewis, who is our usual parent helper.
Please note that refunds for the cancelled drama session on Wednesday 12 November will
be made via ParentPay in due course.
Class 1 Induction Questionnaire
The Class 1 Induction Questionnaire was sent out yesterday to parents/carers of children
in Reception. We would be grateful if you could complete and return to school on Monday
10 November 2014.
Parent Forums
Thank you to all those parents who managed to attend our Parent Forums this week. As
always, the opportunity to gather parent views and opinions is vital to our school
improvement process. Minutes of the meetings will be available to view on the website
shortly.
PE Sessions – Classes 2, 3 and 4
We hope to have as many PE lessons as possible outside during the winter months. Please
ensure children have suitable footwear and clothing in school on PE days. This may include
dark coloured leggings or tracksuit bottoms, thermals/skins and trainers or football/rugby
boots. The school PE hoody is also ideal in place of the school sweatshirt as your child’s
sweatshirt will then remain clean and dry for subsequent indoor lessons. A reminder of
the outdoor PE timetable is as follows (this will include using the playground, Lothersdale
Park MUGA and/or playing field):

Children in Need – Friday 14 November 2014
Children in Need day will be taking place on Friday 14 November 2014. This year the
School Council has decided to support the nationwide campaign by organising for the
children to come to school dressed as superheroes or in their brightest clothes. It is free
to participate as we are simply raising awareness of Children in Need this year. Please
note that Class 3 are swimming on Friday so need to bear this in mind when choosing their
choice of outfit!!!
Remembrance Service at Lothersdale Village War Memorial – School Council
Members of the School Council have been invited to represent the school at the
Remembrance Ceremony at the village war memorial on Sunday 9 November 2014. Letters
have gone out to parents/carers of members of the School Council to ask them to meet
Miss Thompson in the main school reception area at 10.45am and they will then walk over
to the war memorial in time for the 10.50am ceremony. If your child is not in the School
Council but would like to come along, then they are more than welcome as are
parents/carers. Please ensure children attending the ceremony are wearing their school
uniform.
Christmas Chain Knitting Challenge
Further to the insert in last week’s Friday News and in order to help the Woolcraft Club
know how many people are supporting them with their Christmas Chain Knitting Challenge,
please can you email [email protected] to let us know that you are knitting
chains for this project or come into school and let Mrs Ellison know in person. Many
thanks for your support.
The instructions for knitting a single chain are as follows:
Cast on 36 stitches, knit 7 rows and cast off. Leave your ends for sewing up.

Bad Weather Procedures
A letter has been sent out today regarding our procedures in the event of bad weather,
for your information.
Bad Weather Consent Forms
Bad Weather Consent Forms were sent out before half-term to all children in Years 2, 3,
4, 5 and 6 to enable us to update our records. Unfortunately we still have outstanding
reply slips – if you have not already done so, please complete a consent form for each child
and return to school on Monday 10 November 2014. It is important we have this
information on file now that we are entering the winter months.
