I hope you have heard from your Regional Coordinator and Executive Board
member by now that the PEF Executive Board voted to endorse Zephyr Teachout
for Governor of New York State. Ms. Teachout is the Democrat challenging
Governor Cuomo in the September 9, 2014 primary.
PEF leadership interviewed Ms. Teachout, and she spoke at the August Executive
Board Meeting in Albany where she was enthusiastically endorsed in a nearly
unanimous vote of the Executive Board.
PEF endorsed Teachout for her outstanding credentials in advocating for the
working men and women in New York State. During her presentation, Zephyr
told the PEF Executive Board that she:
• Opposes consolidating state services and believes state consolidations
are just an excuse for privatizing facilities
• Believes in investing in basics – schools, transportation and broadband
• Believes in government accountability and using technology to make
government more accountable
• Believes in public campaign financing
• Opposes concentration of wealth by the few
Teachout co-founded A New Way Forward, an organization dedicated to structural
change in the political economy, and she was the first National Director of the
Sunlight Foundation, a group that advocated for open government globally.
Teachout is a constitutional and property law professor at Fordham Law School.
Her Lieutenant Governor partner is Tim Wu, a lawyer who has worked extensively
on the concept of network neutrality, an issue that has brought unprecedented
attention to the public’s interest in Internet carriage. At the Federal Trade
Commission, he focused the agency on rising competition and privacy problems in
the technology sector. Tim teaches at Columbia Law School.

please go to the New York State Board of Elections website at www.elections.ny.gov
and click on "Need to look up your elected official or district map".
PEF urges you to join your union in working to get these qualified candidates elected.
We know that only a finite number of people vote in primary elections, so here's
where we can really make a difference by casting our votes and encouraging our
family members and friends to do the same. The status quo doesn’t work. It’s time to
do things differently - to be bold in our actions. Organizing and working for
candidates, like Zephyr and Tim, who support the goals and priorities of this union are
vital to our political power to preserve our members’ jobs, the services we provide,
and to get the contract we deserve.
Primary Day is Tuesday, September 9, 2014. This Primary Matters!
General Election Day is Tuesday, November 4, 2014.
Your vote counts. Please get out and vote and encourage your family members
and friends to do the same!
Sincerely,
Susan M. Kent
President
