The costs of printing the weekly bulletin for our parish are offset through the support of these businesses, most of which are members of
our parish. We ask your support of them. Thank you.
“Stop making my Father’s house a marketplace!” So shouts Jesus to the moneychangers. So shouts Jesus to us. “Stop
making my Father’s house a marketplace!” Stop trying to negotiate with God, Try stop using God for advantage. Stop
bargaining limited obedience for temporal benefits. “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all
your mind, with all your soul, with all your body.” God demands — asks for
— nothing less.
By way of comparison, there are many in our society that see marriage as a battle for dominance between male and female, between man and woman. For such as these the whole point of marriage is manipulation and tactical manoeuvring for one’s own advantage. What a waste of time! What a waste of a marriage! We are called both in marriage and
in our relationship to God to give ourselves away without calculation. No relationship based on calculation is a true
relationship of love. Instead it is a relationship of convenience. “Stop making my Father’s house a marketplace!”
meaning, “Stop treating God as a God of convenience.”
Rather let us respond to Him with an awe-based desire to give totally of ourselves to such a pure, loving, merciful, joyful God.
Blessings,
Fr. Stephen
