Communication Quality Evaluation of
Emergency Call Devices, Narrowband Part
OVERVIEW
Measurement tree and result diagram for GOST R55531-NB in communication
analysis system ACQUA
DESCRIPTION
The Russian standard GOST R 555312013 (ERA-GLONASS) defines test methods regarding the communication quality
of emergency call systems in cars. The
requirements and measurements for the
narrowband range described in this standard have been implemented by HEAD
acoustics for use with the communication
analysis system ACQUA as measurement
standard GOST R55531-NB.
The tests implemented in GOST R55531NB cover all requirements with regard to
communication quality in the narrowband range. GOST R55531-NB
allows the automated quality analysis and
experimental optimization of in-vehicle
emergency call systems.
GOST R55531-NB comprises numerous
standard values such as loudness rating,
idle channel noise in sending and receiving direction, spectral echo attenuation
and suppression of out-of-band signals.
In addition, GOST R55531-NB takes into
account several other important aspects:
•Tests under different conditions for e.g.
vehicle movement (standing with engine switched on/off), vehicle environment (quiet street, heavy-traffic route),
vehicle windows (open/closed), talker
location (driver seat, seat next to driver
or seat back from driver), talker speech

level (normal, weak, loud).
Note: Car sounds are not included
•Artificial head measurement system as
“user” of the emergency call system.
•Primary focus on conversation parameters such as double talk performance
and quality of background noise transmission.
Some of the measurements have partially
been developed out of ITU-T Recommendation P.1100 for speech quality assessment
of narrowband car hands-free terminals.
APPLICATIONS
•Automated quality analysis of
in-vehicle emergency call systems
•Experimental development and
optimization of in-vehicle emergency call systems
TEST SIGNALS
•Composite Source Signals (CSS)
•Artificial voice
•Speech sequences
•CSS combinations for double talk
simulation
•AM/FM modulated sine signals for
echo measurements
Valid since standard implementation Rev. 01, subject to change
Emergency call systems trigger an
automatic emergency call in case of an
accident. For this purpose, technology
based on hands-free functionality is used
in the car. To ensure optimal communication between the crashed car and the
rescue service, appropriate measurement
technology and test methods must be
provided.
For this issue the Russian standard
GOST R 55531-2013 (ERA-GLONASS)
has been developed which provides test
methods for verification of in-vehicle
emergency call system conformity to
quality requirements for loudspeaker
communication in vehicle cabins.
With the measurement standard GOST
R55531-NB for the communication analysis system ACQUA, HEAD acoustics has
implemented tests for narrowband
measurements as described in the
ERA-GLONASS standard. It provides
comprehensive tests for the analysis of
• Delay,
• Speech transmission quality,
• Quality during double talk,
• Echo,
• Quality of background noise
transmission.
GOST R55531-NB can be used by
manufacturers and suppliers of the automotive industry to qualify and optimize
emergency call systems.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
GOST R55531-NB (Code 60030)
requires the following system components:
•ACQUA (Code 6810 etc.), Advanced Communication Quality Analysis System, Version 3.2.100 or later
Note: existing customers need a valid
software maintenance agreement (SMA)
•MFE VI.1 (Code 6462), analog USB
front end with level adjustment and
integrated power amplifier
•HMS II.3-33 (Code 1230.1), artificial HEAD Measurement System with
