Roxie Lancaster Children’s Holiday Writing Competition
October 1 – November 12, 2014
For Children in Elementary Grades 1st through 5th

Requirements of the Competition
1.
The competition is open to all children in Grades 1 – 5 who live in Montgomery County.
2.
The competition will begin October 1, 2014 and end on November 12, 2014.
3.
Children may enter only one (1) composition in the competition.
4.
Children are invited to write a short essay in 125 words or less about Christmas, Hanukkah, and
Kwanzaa, winter, December or any other appropriate seasonal topic. Criteria for judging the essays
are originality, imagination and the ability for students to express themselves coherently. Each
grade will be judged separately in all schools represented.
5.
All entries must be written in class in your own words.
6.
Entries must include this cover sheet with the name of the student, grade, teacher’s name and the
name of the school otherwise, entries will be disqualified. Make as many copies of this form as
needed. DO NOT WRITE ANY STUDENT INFORMATION DIRECTLY ON THE ESSAY.
7.
Entries may be taken to any branch of the Montgomery City-County Public Library System. The
deadline is November 12, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. Entries submitted after this date will not be judged.
8.
Students with successful entries will be notified at their schools Friday, December 5, 2014.
AWARDS
Awards will be presented Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 4:30 p.m.
