Business Challenges
Today’s IT organizations are under enormous pressure to deliver new applications and
services to the market at an increasingly rapid pace. Today, applications are critical to the
success of the business and in many cases they are the business. As a result, applications
are constantly changing, and managing that change is a key component to maintaining
business agility. Today, IT organizations are struggling with the following challenges:
Reduce error-prone tasks. Manual processes are error prone, expensive and time
consuming. Development organizations are comprised of diverse teams, responsible for
deploying code, data and content throughout all stages of the application development
lifecycle, each with its own specific requirements.
Improve time-to-deployment. Complex infrastructure components require highly skilled
resources to provision, test and deploy applications across your development, QA and
production environments. Manual release processes are often inadequate for agile
development methodologies. Executing change across each environment independently is
time consuming, often requiring you to start from scratch with each and every update.
Reduce operational bottlenecks. When the operations team is bogged down by repetitive
release tasks it becomes increasingly difficult to complete weekly application updates
within a scheduled maintenance window. It becomes difficult if not impossible to retain the
critical knowledge necessary to build repeatable processes for day-to-day or emergency
operations. In addition, scaling the operations team to handle the increased workload from
growing applications and data center operations can become cost prohibitive.
Solution Overview
Applications have become a key component of modern business. Users expect 24/7
availability along with continuously enhanced features. IT is adopting virtualization and
cloud computing for faster access to infrastructure and compute resources, agile
development to deliver application releases faster, and release operations for centralized
control and zero touch application deployments.
Continuous delivery is a practice that helps address these challenges of deployment. With
CA Release Automation, customers can automate the delivery process and reduce the
complexity of promoting new applications through the development lifecycle and into production.
