The LRHS Equestrian Club
“The essential joy of being with horses is that it brings us in contact with the rare elements of grace,
beauty, spirit, and fire”.
- Sharon Ralls Lemon
The LRHS Equestrian Club was started in 2003 when a teacher wanted to share her love of horses
with the students. It is a unique group of students who have come together due to a common
passion: horses. Students do not have to have a horse to join, nor is any riding experience required.
Some of our past activities include: trail riding, trips to the RCMP stables in Ottawa, a visit to a local
vet clinic, a voltage demonstration (gymnastics on horseback), a reining demonstration, and just
recently a sleigh ride. We have even had a horse and rider join the Terry Fox Run for a number of
years.
Our group does a lot of fundraising (Norcard catalogue orders, cookie dough, book sales, raffles,
bake sales, etc.) to ensure our members can enjoy the activities at little to no cost.
Our numbers vary each year, but they are usually around 20-25 members. As far as we know, we
are STILL the only equestrian club in our school board, and proud of it!
If you have any questions regarding our club, know of someone who would like to “host” us for an
activity, or would like to make a donation to our Club, please send an email to
[email protected] or call LRHS at 450-562-8571.
Sincerely, Erin Black-Silverson & Linda Waissi (Equestrian Club Coordinators)
We are trying to raise money to put towards our upcoming field trips.
We are currently selling items from NORCARD Fundraising. There are hundreds of
items to choose from and many make great birthday or Christmas gifts. Our goal is
to raise $2,000.00.
New this year, you can order online and the proceeds will go to our Club. Please go
to www.norcard.ca and click on “Shop Online” then “Fundraise Online”. Our group
seller # 0295370 which is already set up and ready to go.
Items ordered online will be delivered directly to you!
If you have any questions regarding the Club or this fundraiser, please send an email
to [email protected] or call 450-562-8571.
Thank you for your support!
The Community Learning Center at LRHS is ready to provide another
great year of activities and services to the general community of our
territory and within the school community. The mission of the CLC is to
work collaboratively with local partners to enhance services and
opportunities to Anglophones in our community.
Our focus over the last few years has been on parents, students and older adults. We provide
several informative videoconferences over the year that are of special interest to the elderly.
As well as many that are geared towards helping parents.
The students of LRHS has been at the heart of our operation and we offer several
opportunities for them, such as:
-
Videoconference opportunities (classes can connect worldwide to museums or other
schools)
Argenteuil’s Club of Young Volunteers (gives opportunities to students to volunteer in the
community)
Spartan Race (the students get to participate in a full 5 KM adult Spartan race to raise
money for The Montreal Children’s Hospital)
Babysitting Course (Red Cross certification)
Healthy Snacks (served during Nutrition Month)
Anti-bully initiatives (guest speakers, theater productions)
Summer job prep (resume help, interview tips)
Intergenerational projects (cooking projects)
Job shadowing opportunities (for secondary 4 students)
We hope that your child takes advantage of some of these great opportunities and has a
wonderful school year!

It all started off as only one rugby practice at LRHS…
In 2012, I sat on an airplane flying from Frankfurt, Germany to Montreal. I was
going to spend a year as an exchange student. And the school I was going to
attend was LRHS.
After I arrived and survived the first few days of being a total stranger
to everybody I met, I slowly started to gain confidence. Students as well as
teachers were all very welcoming and soon I made some really good friends. And
just like good friends do, my friends started to invite me to all kinds of events.
One day, some girls asked me “Hey wanna come and see a rugby game?”. To be
honest, I wasn’t so sure about what exactly I should be expecting because I had
absolutely no clue about rugby. You have to know that in Germany, rugby is not
well-known and there aren’t many clubs and almost no schools that have rugby
teams. Therefore I was quite sceptical in the beginning, but after I learned the
rules I became soon very impressed by this sport.
In February, the rugby season in school started and since I had promised
to at least try it out once, I came to a practice session. I was immediately
fascinated by the team spirit and the girl’s positive attitude. Practice was so much fun that I decided to join the
team. After buying a pair of cleats, a mouth guard and rugby shorts I was ready for the first game of the season. I
was incredibly thrilled! Till today, I still vividly remember my first tackle ever that took place on the pitch at
LRHS. Throughout the season, our team grew even closer and we won quite a lot of our games. I fell in love with the
spirit and the sport.
All the more I was very sad when finally the season ended. After graduating at LRHS I had to leave Canada
and go back to Germany. Nevertheless, I would be taking this great experience with me. Those memories of my
first tackle, my first try, my first team and my first award as Rookie of the Year 2013 will stay with me forever.
When I came back to Germany and actually managed to find a women’s team I could join, I was really
delighted. I couldn’t imagine not playing rugby anymore so much had I learned to love the game. I was only going to
play sevens though, firstly because of the size of my team and secondly because Germany promotes it more since it
is an Olympic discipline. Always aiming for improvement, I practiced a lot but often missed the practice at LRHS.
Nothing beats practicing with about 25 girls my age!
One day I got an email from the u18 coach of North Rhine- Westphalia, which is similar to a provincial
coach. He asked me to try out for the team, which I successfully did. Among other tournaments, we went to
Austria and played an international tournament. It was a really great experience, but the even greater experience
had yet to come: I got asked to try out for the national u18 sevens team. Working out and practicing paid off and I
was chosen to play for Germany during the European Championship in September 2014!
So it all started off as only one rugby practice at LRHS and now I was allowed to represent Germany at an
important international tournament. Therefore I want to say a huge thank you to everybody in Canada who
supported me and thank you especially to my coaches and the team at LRHS. You made it possible for me to dream
big and to turn my dream into reality! Sarah Titgemeyer
SWLSB Sports League Information
The Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Sports League will officially begin its second year in November, offering
both indoor soccer and basketball tournaments for both junior and senior students, boys and girls. Many
LRHS teams have begun their practices after school.
PRACTICES:
The LRHS Indoor Soccer Teams have gyms available for practices every Tuesday after school when
there are late day busses.
The LRHS Basketball teams have gyms available for practices every Thursday after school when there
are late day busses.
When there are no late day bus services, practices are not held due to poor attendance. Practices run
from 3:30pm to 5:00pm. Students staying for practice must sign up at the office to indicate their
presence. Players are reminded that no food or drinks are permitted within the gyms.
COACHES:
Jr Boys Indoor Soccer: Tyler Druce and Miranda Yeats (supervised by Simon Hopkins)
Jr Girls Indoor Soccer: Erika Fournier (supervised by Andy Simon)
Sr Girls Indoor Soccer: Andy Simon
Sr Boys Indoor Soccer: Simon Hopkins
Jr Boys Basketball: Kelly Young

Coaches volunteer their time for practices and tournaments. If a coach is not able to attend practice

the end of the day so students can take their regular bus home.

cheque to the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board. Fees must be brought to the LRHS office by Monday
November 10th. Uniforms and LRHS sports equipment are borrowed by the LRHS players and coaches
for the duration of the season. Players who fail to return their uniform at the end of the season to
their coaches will be charged to replace the uniform.
Information Regarding the Sr Girls Basketball Team
This year, the sr girls basketball team is participating in the regional sport etudiant league (RSEQ) due
to the lack of sr girls teams in the SWLSB Sports League. Like other LRHS Basketball teams, the sr
girls also practice on Thursday after school. The team is coached by Vanessa Bigras. The cost per
player to participate in this league is $150. This fee covers, league administrative and organizational
costs. The players will have to pay these fees in cash or cheque to the SWLSB by Monday November
10th. More information about this league is available on the following web site:
