Also online you will find some information and statistics
regarding the number of priests, and their average age,
currently serving in our diocese. Please consider how your
encouragement of vocations could help to change our
direction.

SMSA Student Show
St. Mary’s Springs Academy will be
presenting “Annie Play Will Do” in
conjunction with Eldridge Publishing.
“Principal Martin has just informed the
director, Ms.Morris, that the show is the
following night, which was a
miscommunication. Therefore, the cast
and crew has only hours to put on an entire show! The
pressure is on as it is discovered that the school may have
to make cuts to the program if the show is not a success.
What transpires is a ridiculous and hilarious production
under the direction of two students who have recently
broken up.”
The show dates are Friday, November 21 and Saturday,
November 22 at 7:00 pm and Sunday November 23 at
1:00 pm at the North Fond du Lac High School Horace
Mann auditorium at 225 McKinley Street. Tickets can be
purchased at Wegner’s Office Supply on 17 Court Street in
Fond du Lac starting Monday, November 10 or at the door.
Prices are $7 for adults, $3 for students and $5 for senior
citizens (age 60 or better). Performing Arts Patrons may
bring their tickets to the door.

PASTORAL CARE
Health and Wellness Ministry News
According to the National Center of Educational Statistics,
nearly 1 in 3 students report being bullied during the school
year. The Center for Disease Control reported that students
who experience bullying are twice as likely to have negative
effects. These effects are depression, sleep difficulties,
anxiety and trouble adjusting to school. Youth victimized by
their peers were 2.4 times more likely to report suicidal
ideas and 3.3 times more likely to report a suicide attempt
than youth who reported not being bullied.
YScreen offers emotional health screening and it is
available to adolescents in Fond du Lac County. While
participating in the YScreen Program, students may disclose
being bullied and symptoms of depression, anxiety and
suicidal thoughts can be identified. If you are concerned a
youth is experiencing bullying, please contact YScreen to
have the youth screened at (920) 906-6777 or (920) 9066700 ext. 4714.
Bullying Prevention and Awareness Facts (National
Bullying Prevention Center):
 More than 160,000 students stay home from school
each day from fear of being bullied.
 Bullying directly affects a student’s ability to learn.
Students who are bullied find it difficult to
concentrate, show a decline in grades, lose selfesteem, self-confidence and self-worth.
 Students who are bullied report more physical
symptoms than other students, such as: headaches
or stomachaches and mental health issues, such as
depression and anxiety
 In some cases, bullying has led to devastating
consequences, such as school shootings and suicide.
 Bullying affects witnesses as well as targets.
Witnesses often report feeling unsafe, helpless and
afraid that they will be the next target.
 Bullying is a communitywide issue that must no
longer be ignored or thought of as a rite of passage.
Students, parents and educators all have a role in
addressing bullying situations and changing school
culture.
 Compared to students who only bully, or who are
only victims, students who do both suffer the most
serious consequences and are at greater risk for
both mental health and behavior problems.
 Students can be especially effective in bullying
intervention. More than 55 percent of bullying
situations will stop when a peer intervenes. Student
education of how to address bullying for peers is
critical, as is the support of adults.
 Silence is no longer an acceptable response to
bullying. Adults, students and educators can no
longer look away when they see bullying. Ignoring it
won’t work. Everyone needs to be empowered with
options to respond.
SOCIAL MINISTRY
The Ministry of St. Vincent de Paul
In today’s Gospel we hear the call to
use our talents and gifts. Whether you
support St. Vincent de Paul by donating
time, giving financially or through
donations of furniture, household items
and clothing you no longer use, you are
giving hope to your neighbors.
Thanksgiving Envelope for St. Vincent de Paul: The
envelope in your parishioner packet supports the work of
Holy Family Conference. Your generosity helps us serve
those who have temporary needs – it is greatly
appreciated!
Advent Giving Trees
Giving Trees project begins next weekend!
Purchase gifts for the children and
families of our community by
selecting a tag from the giving tree
in the back of church. Each tag
provides gift ideas for a child or
adult. Please follow specific
information provided on each tag.
Gifts need to be returned to the
same church site no later than Sunday, December 7.
We thank our site coordinators who help make this
ministry happen: Elaine Graf, Mary Gorske, Stefani Ponce,
Jenny Vang and their elf helpers. Additional helpers are
always welcome!
Thanksgiving Eve Prayer Service
Wednesday, November 26, at 7:00 pm: Covenant United
Methodist Church, 20 N. Marr St., is hosting this year’s
FAMA, Fond du Lac Area Ministerial Association Ecumenical
Thanksgiving Eve Service. Join us as we gather in prayer to
give thanks for our blessings. We will collect nonperishable food items and monetary offerings for our local
hunger organizations.
Youth Service Opportunities
Thursday, November 20, Bingo at St. Francis Home:
Teen volunteers are needed to play bingo with the
residents at 33 Everett Street from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. Some
of the residents don’t see or hear well and need assistance
to play bingo. Others just enjoy having young people play
bingo and visit with them. Please contact Evelyn
McLean-Cowan at 929-9116.
Holy Family Thanksgiving Day Masses: Please bring along
food donations for our area food pantries. Your financial
offerings will help support the work of St. Vincent de Paul.
Alternative Giving Event
Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8
Holy Family site after all Masses
The Alternative Giving Event is an opportunity to make a
donation to local and international nonprofit organizations
that help those in need in the name of a friend or relative.
You will receive a gift card to announce your gift
donation. Give a gift that gives back, a gift that empowers
and provides hope and dignity to those in our community
and around the world. Watch future bulletins for more
information.
Weekly Justice Challenge
November 16, 2014, 33rd Week in Ordinary Time
The Sunday gospel focuses on the gifts which
God gives to each one of us. We are called
to use our talents and gifts, not hide or
neglect them. And God always wants us to
share what He has given to us with the most
vulnerable. Your challenge this week is to
share one of your special talents with someone in need. If
you have the gift of speaking, perhaps you could make a
call to your legislators, asking them to support bills which
ensure food security for all. If you have a gift for music,
consider visiting a homeless shelter or nursing home and
brightening residents’ day with song. If you are talented in
sports, call a family shelter and offer to organize a game
for the children. If finances are your field of expertise,
offer your services to a service organization that is doing
fund-raising. Share your God-given gifts with others so
your light can shine for all to see! Copyright © Center for
Ministry Development, 2014. FashioningFaith.org. All rights reserved.
Holy Family Challenge: The rapidly approaching holiday
season is an excellent time to reflect on ways to “give
thanks.” Maybe you feel a call to volunteer at weekend
liturgies as a greeter, usher, lector, Eucharistic minister or
minister of music. Contact our parish office, and they will
graciously share with you these opportunities. With the
winter season upon us, consider helping a neighbor by
being a “Neighbor In Faith”. Simple things like a phone
call or just “checking in” will make a difference in
someone’s life. Help someone to be able to stay in their
home by helping around the house with snow removal,
cleaning and minor repair work. Many volunteer
opportunities are present in pastoral care: take
communion to the homebound, visit the sick or help in the
bereavement ministry. Holy Family’s “Giving Tree”
project needs helpers – volunteer either at a weekend
Mass or if you enjoy coordinating things, consider being a
coordinator at the Sacred Heart site. Contact Jack or
Ruthann at the parish office, 921-0580, to volunteer in
one of these ministries or to hear about other Social
Ministry or Pastoral Care opportunities. During the
upcoming holiday and winter season, how will you put
your time, talent, treasure and the passions in your life
into action?

floaters per shift and volunteers to run the registers are needed.
If you have questions or are available to help please email Jen at
[email protected] or call/text at 920-602-6465.
Thank you for your support of the SMSA all-campus Holiday Book Fair.
Special Thanks
Kudus to our parishioner members of the FDL High School cast and
company for the great performance of “A White Christmas.”
Everyone’s been talking about the great precision tap dancing and the
professional way the cast became their characters! Hats off to the
stage crew and artists who created and so quickly moved the different
sets, the musicians, light, makeup, costuming and other technicians.
To all the advisors, too, for your great work! You provided the entire
community with great entertainment. We are proud of You!
-Fr. Bob
