GEW Selfie Challenge: Get an Early GEW Start with This Activity
The GEW Selfie Challenge runs from November 9 to 19. The
Challenge introduces students to the entrepreneurial resources
available on and off campus, while raising awareness of Penn
State's Global Entrepreneurship Week events.
Tour
Selfie Challenge rules and sites with dates and mes when students
may visit to learn more about each resource will be posted on
GEWpennstate.org, Selfie Challenge tab, on November 8. On
November 21, some names of par cipa ng students will be drawn
at random from Instagram entries. Those lucky students will be
offered a seat at a pizza party given by President Barron.

All-Star Entrepreneurship Game Show

Coordinated by Professor Robert Beaury
On Sunday, stop in at 220 Hammond at 7:00 p.m. to cheer on
students, faculty, and local entrepreneurs as they participate in an
Entrepreneurship Game Show that will mimic two of the most famous
game shows of all time: The Dating Game and The Family Feud. The
Penn State Dating Game will pit six student entrepreneurs in a competition to win a lunch date with local entrepreneurs.
The Family Feud game will place eight students into two families,
answering questions about the Penn State entrepreneurship
ecosystem. Everyone who walks through the door will be eligible to
play. Show up ready to participate or cheer on your favorites. It will be
a great night with prizes, free food, and Global Entrepreneurship
Week giveaways.

Penn State mHealth Pitch Competition
IST Cybertorium
The Penn State mHealth Challenge is a cross-College idea pitch competition that pairs undergraduate students from the College of Information
Sciences and Technology (IST) with those from the Department of
Biobehavioral Health (BBH) in the College of Health and Human
Development (HHD). Student teams work together to generate a mobile
solution that addresses a societal health issue, then pitch their ideas to
a panel of judges. BBH students identify a health need of a specific
target population, then create behavioral objectives designed to
address the health need. IST students act as technology consultants
working with BBH students to understand user needs. Together, teams
mock-up a mobile app that addresses the defined health need.

The MDX + PSU Innovation Challenge Awards Announcement
A global collaboration between Middlesex University (MDX) in London–
mdx.ac.uk and Penn State.
The MDX + PSU Innovation Challenge selected 16 Penn State students
and 16 MDX students, to form into eight teams of four, with two Penn
State students and two MDX students per team.
Each team defined a problem, need, or pain in one of four categories
then researched and developed a solution. The categories were green
technology, in-the-home, social entrepreneurship, and transportation.
Teams submitted a three-minute video describing the problem and their
solution. The winning team will be given the opportunity to attend
Summer Jam in Croatia (summerjamcroatia.com) in August 2015.

GEW about “…spotting opportunities, taking risks, solving problems,

The 2013–14 Penn State Laureate, Ken Womack, will be speaking at
the November 19 meeting of the Outreach Toastmasters. The Penn
State Laureate is a full-time faculty member who is assigned half-time
to serve as the University Laureate for one academic year. The Laureate
is a highly visible representative of the University and works to bring
greater visibility to his or her own work, bring credit to Penn State, and
add a more human dimension to the conduct of usual affairs and
business of the Commonwealth, the University, and communities.

Women Entrepreneurs in Film: An Evening with Distributor
Nancy Gerstman of Zeitgeist Films and Filmmaker Pearl Gluck

Discuss what it takes to be in the film industry for more than 25 years,
explore the relationship between filmmakers and their distributors, and
screen one of Ms. Gerstmans acquisitions, Divan (2004), a
documentary film directed and produced by Film/Video
Professor Pearl Gluck.
Ms. Gerstman and her partner, Emily Russo, co-founded Zeitgeist Films
in 1988. Since then, six of their films have been nominated for
Academy Awards and one (Nowhere in Africa) has won the Academy
Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Their films have been honored
by festivals throughout the world with Grand Prizes at Cannes, Berlin,
Sundance and IFDA in Amsterdam.
Divan (2004) is an award-winning documentary which follows the quest
for a turn of the century Hungarian couch upon which grand rabbis have
slept. The film aired on the Sundance Channel, showed theatrically at
New York's Film Forum, and premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in
New York.

The Thriving Artist Session 3: Money Management and Asset Creation

Most artists need to be better with their money than the typical
nine-to-five individual because artists’ income can be seasonal. They
also need to realize that the financial decisions they make or do not
make early on can severely affect their future. We, as a community of
artists, are too vibrant and too talented to allow that to be our fate. This
“rubber meets the road” workshop moves to correct this pervasive
issue. Participants will delve into their own financial situation, look at
their perspective and relationship to money, and create ways to
generate income, while keeping their art as the main career focus.
