JULY 2011
The Whisper
Mangrove Mountain Memorial Club Limited
Dear Members & Guests
Welcome to the July edi on of The Whisper
First of all I would like to introduce myself as the new Secretary Manager, Paul Alexander.
My office door is always open to all Members and Guests and I welcome any sugges ons on how we can improve
our clubs facili es and ac vi es for all patrons.
Over the next few months I am hoping to introduce myself to all of the Members and welcome your feedback on
the club.
As you are all aware the completed Renova ons opened on the 27th May 2011.
The New Outdoor balcony is a great place to enjoy the a1ernoon sun while dining from the restaurant or in the late evening.
I am sure that this area will prove to be very popular during the summer months.
The Gaming Room has been moved to the Workers Bar side with the new Outdoor Smoking balcony
and Outdoor gaming.
This is proving to be very popular as Families can now come into the Club and enjoy the Clubs
cili es in the Main Lounge area.

Once again we would like to thank Charter Pac for all of their help and professionalism during the
renova on's and we look forward to bringing you Stage 2, hopefully in the new year.
Amalgamation with Mangrove Country Club
All Members would be aware that on the 30th March Members of the Mangrove Mountain
Memorial Club voted in favour of the amalgamation with the Mangrove Country Club.
The Mangrove Country Club then held another vote on Tuesday 31st May and also voted
in favour of the amalgamation.
Where we are now is the Deed of Amalgamation is being signed off by both Clubs and will
then be in the hands of the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing for approx. 6 – 8 weeks and
hopefully will all be finalized by September.

MANGROVE MOUNTAIN’S FIRST TEAM TROPHY!
Mangrove won its first ever team trophy with a win in the Challenge Cup. President
John Spargo accepted the Cup on behalf of our team at the CCDGA Presentation
Night on Saturday 4th June.
Steve Fallon also picked up a trophy for the best nett score in the District Seniors
Championships.
Our team members were; Steph Rapmund, Brett Adams, Erin Wightman,
Gordon Fraser, Scott Wightman, and Wendy Munro.
HANDICAP SYSTEM
Golf Australia has announced alterations to the Handicap System to become effective
on Wednesday 21st September 2011.
1. The ‘Best 10 of 20’ will be altered to the ‘Best 8 of 20’.
2. The Bonus for Excellence multiplier will change from 0.96 to 0.93.
3. An Anchor will be introduced to prevent a player’s handicap from increasing any
more than 4 strokes beyond their best exact handicap from the previous 12 month
rolling period.
4. Golf Link will cap the score that goes into a player’s handicap record at no more
than the following amount over the course rating:
This will involve the GOLF Link system being down from 1.00pm on Monday
19th September until Wednesday 21 September.
PRO SHOP RENOVATIONS
These renovations were proposed by the Golf Committee in an effort to address the
poor condition of the Pro Shop.
The materials have been financed solely through funds made from the Saturday
Sausage BBQ. The labour for the renovations was supplied voluntarily by
Dennis Allen.
So thanks to all golfers who have supported the BBQ. And many thanks to
Dennis Allen, without whom the BBQ would never have happened in the first place,
nor run so efficiently, nor the renovations carried out.
COURSE RATING
As part of the new handicap system, each course in Australia has to be re-rated.
Some of the Central Coast courses have been completed. Mangrove is due some
time in July. But from past experience, this could change. When it does happen
however, volunteers will be required to mark out the new “landing zones” etc.
INDEXING
The Golf Committee is very aware that the indexing for each hole is overdue for
reconsideration. It has been decided to carry this out after the course has been
re-rated.
HOLDEN SCRAMBLE
This is scheduled at Mangrove for August 27th. So make sure you get your team
organised.
Mangrove Ladies Golf News…..
Well after a very wet April and May we were finally able to get our Club
Championships finished. Due to amount of rain we have had in the past couple
of months the course has held us quite well, I think you will all agree, especially
with the carts using the paths and not crossing the fairways, it has made a
difference and a quick recovery.
Championships results as follows:
Division 2 : Stephanie Rapmund
Division 3 : Sue Lockyer
Seniors:
Division 2: Denise Green
Division 3: Sue Lockyer
Club Champion: Stephanie Rapmund.
Congratulations to all.
We have had a few tournaments with some good results.
Monday the 27th June was the District Foursome Championships held at
Everglades.
Division 1 NET: Denise Green and Stephanie Rapmund came in with a net
69.5 but they were beaten on a countback to Everglades.
Division 2 NET: Sue Lockyer and Carol Alfonso had a net 71, also runners up.
Great effort girls we know how we all LOVE playing Everglades.
We had a few members go up to the Golf NSW Tournament played at Pacific
Dunes on 24th-25th June with some great results also.
Greg and Stephanie Rapmund on the first day had 51 Stableford in the 2bbb.
But unfortunately they were beaten also on a count back to Kooindah Waters
Team .
Day 2 was a par event team of four and the Team of Don Thompson,
Julie Curran, Greg Voss and Di Voss came in with +13 which brought them in
third. Another great result.!!
I think they all now know where Mangrove Mountain is…
Keep up the good golfing ……
