1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
1,000 Books Before
Kindergarten is designed to
help parents prepare their
children for one of life’s big
milestones: kindergarten. An
excellent way to get your child ready to learn is to read to
them. Children who have not yet started kindergarten are
invited to stop by the Youth Services desk to register for
this program and pick up their first reading log.

Something Old and Something New
October 19–November 23
Exhibit by Larry Stark
Larry Stark has been making art since
1967. At that time he thought all art had to
make a cultural statement. His view of art
may be less narrow today, but he is limiting this exhibit to
works of that nature. Some of these works from 1969 through
2013 have not been shown in Eau Claire before.
Head vs Heart • November 30–January 6
Exhibit by Brenda Brousseau
Artist Reception: Thursday, December 4, 7-8:30 p.m.
Brenda began beading decades ago after her grandmother took her to
an exhibit of Native American beadwork and bought her a child’s loom
from the gift shop. Brenda has never looked at life the same since. Art
to Brousseau is a continuation of her spirituality, and that journey has
formed the basis of her work. Her preferred bead is called a seed bead,
the same type of bead historically found in Native American work. She researches
every headdress theme so that each can be layered with both meaning and symbology.
Last year she received a grant from the Minnesota Arts Board to start beading a
collection of wall mandalas.
