Mountain Biking in Bom Bom State Forest - Everyone is welcome.
For information on our club and events can be found on our Facebook page
"Bom Bom Racing".
General Information: There are rules and generally riding at Bom Bom and can
be ridden most times, if rules are followed. The main rule we ask is not to ride
tracks after substantial rain as bikes will damage tracks and cause
environmental damage. Most riders are aware of this condition. There are other
rules like not to litter and respect to the flora and fauna in the forest as an
example.
The rules are posted on the sign at the entrance to the Bom Bom tracks.
Thursday 27th November
Grafton Weekly Farmers & Growers Markets to be held Duke Street Road
Reserve, Market Square. Starting at 7.00am to 12.00 noon. The Farmers
Market has a great range of fresh local produce including jams, sauces, honey,
bakery items and plenty more. Stroll in the open air, chat with the farmers and
producers, and even get advice on best cooking methods.
The Grafton Farmers Market provides a great opportunity for Clarence Valley
farmers and fresh food producers to sell farm-origin and associated valueadded processed food products directly to local customers while giving you an
opportunity to talk directly to them about their produce and their farming
methods.
The Market show cases locally grown fruit, vegetables, eggs, fish, flowers etc
plus locally produced cakes, biscuits, jams and gourmet items.
Old Time Dancing will be held at the Grafton District Services Club, 105 Mary

Maclean Hospital Auxiliary “Cash Bingo” will be held at the Maclean Lower
Clarence Services Club, 36-38 River Street, Maclean. Starting at 10.00am to

Tea.
Greyhound Racing Day TAB Meeting – TAB C will be held at the Greyhound
Track, Cranworth Street, Grafton. This is one of the fastest ways to win or lose a

Euchre Night at the Yamba Bowling Club, Yamba.
Invitation to Learn and/or Play Euchre.
To commemorate 25 years of playing Euchre at the Bowlo, the Euchre Club
executive invites you to come and join them and enjoy a relaxed game of euchre
among people who will become your friends.
Starting at 7.00pm and are usually finished by 9.30pm.
Cost is $3.00 per player per night, with a prize pool of $30.00 per night, plus
various jackpots.
The ‘Courtesy Bus’ is there for your convenience.

We fly every Saturday morning subject to weather, and other days by
arrangement.

Day.
Starting at 9.00am to 3.00pm, will help raise money for the School P&C and

marquees.

simple dances to learn. This is for members of U3A (that is over fifty and having

Everyone is welcome, no partner needed. Now if you want to join in please ring

the beginners. Folk dancing is a wonderful way to getting ‘fit and fin’, so do your

The Lawrence ferry crossing the Clarence River at Rutland Street, Lawrence this ferry shuttles between Lawrence
and Woodford Island and is part of Tourist Drive 22. Vehicles with long overhang will have problems at low tide.
Operating Time: 24 hours, 7 days a week
Service Day: There is no interruption to service during maintenance periods as two ferries are available at this
crossing

This ferry is unsuitable for caravans and coaches but is OK for mini-buses.

The Artists do beautiful work painting Jacaranda Trees and Jacaranda Avenues.
Alan Podger does beautiful work painting small Framed Jacaranda Trees, Paintings on Jacaranda Seed Pods,
Bookmarks, Brooches, Key Rings and much more.

Flatline to get artistic hearts pumping Sydney-based artist Todd Fuller and dancer Carl Sciberras, collectively
known as Flatline, are to present a lively artist talk at the Grafton Regional Gallery on Friday, 21 November. They
will discuss their new interdisciplinary art form that merges visual art and dance. Todd Fuller’s two digital drawings,
Dance Study 3 and A Dance for Paul Klee, were two of the six acquisitions of the 2014 JADA, which is on display in
the main gallery. The artists’ talk will introduce these new artists of the gallery’s collection. This is the fourth Twilight
Talk presented by the gallery this year. The Twilights are run in conjunction with each round of exhibition openings
and feature artists, art critics and general art lovers who will talk about the exhibitions and programs. Flatline, a new
interdisciplinary collective that converges multiple art forms, will presents its first full length work, Sketch, at the
Twilight. Choreographed by Carl Sciberras, this triptych involves three dancers, a visual artist and composer
transforming the theatre into a hyper-sensorial world where these three mediums push and pull one another into new
territory. Todd Fuller is a graduate of Sydney's National Art School who works across sculpture, animation, drawing,
painting, curatorial and performance. He has exhibited in New York, Rome, Seoul and Nottingham and has
undertaken residencies to the Cité International Des Arts in Paris and the British School at Rome. Fuller was
awarded an honourable mention at the 15th Asian Art Biennale. Carl Sciberras is an independent dance artist and
producer from Western Sydney. He has a Bachelor of Arts (Dance) and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications
(Writing and Cultural Studies) from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and the University of
Technology Sydney respectively. He is a core founder of NSW's Dance Makers Collective in addition to Flatline. The
exhibitions on show at this time are 2014 JADA, Beautiful Drawing: Past Winners and Acquisitions of the JADA and
Miles Hall: Dialogues with Drawing. The entry price of $10 includes one complimentary drink and a selection of
cheeses and crackers. Bookings are not necessary.

Miles Hall: Dialogues with Drawing

After a recent Australia Council sponsored residency at the Cite’ des Arts, Paris, Miles Hall is exhibiting three
bodies of works that offer an insight into the dialogue between his drawings and painting practice. As the winner of
the 2012 JADA Miles Hall presents these recent and past works as a way of introducing his work to the gallery’s
audience.

The Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award (JADA) is the flagship of the Grafton Regional Gallery which promotes
excellence in Australian contemporary drawing. Acquisitions from JADA enter the Gallery’s nationally recognised

The 2014 JADA is worth $40,000. Art critic for the Sydney Morning Herald and art historian John McDonald will
select the winning drawing for the major award of $20,000 and acquisitions up to $20,000 from the finalists

This exhibition is a collaboration between Margaret and Fiona based on shared experiences. It comprises an
exploration of the impact of childhood experiences on the psyche. Both artists come from diverse and complex
families, cultural and religious backgrounds. Illustrations created reflect this complicated landscape.

The Regional Collection was established in 1988 by the first Director of the Gallery, Julian Faigan. This collection,
which includes artworks of all media, identities the visual art history of the region and develops the relationship of

CARBON CRYSTALS HARDER THAN DIAMONDS….
To get something, anything. To get off, to get high, to get less close to death – or fly faster toward it, to be outside
yourself if even just for a moment, to use whatever you can get your hands on to colour yourself in, to work against
the stark white light of the outside…. Just give me an object so I can become Real….
Using bodily, psychological and emotional responses to external stimuli and matter these drawings encompass
submission, control, indifference and obsession. Ultimately, these works contain – through material and action an
attempt to access an authenticity of self in material and object. These drawings use the body as a tool, a conduit
between anxiety and object, the energetic interactions between a perceived reality and solid matter.
Interaction with the outside world is transferred directly into line and object. Each movement, internal frequency,
and psychological reaction is recorded in drawing during the act. Each line encompasses all information, with the
abandonment of representation, the line picks up like radar each minute movement related to internal psychological
states in addition to picking up influences from the outside environment.
The drawings produced are representations of solid matter, of carbon, of rocks, of crystals dug from the earth. They
are about getting grounded back to the earth, an attempt to achieve stability through repetition.

A few months ago, I was driving in the industrial estate of Yamba, Northern Rivers, NSW, when white lines painted

on the front window of a shop caught my eye. I stopped and this is how I met Phebe’s work. Phebe Parisia’s pen
and ink drawings are about ordering and repetition, about regaining control when in chaos. The ordered but uneven
lines are both fluid and constrained – an expression of the topography of Phebe’s mind? These lines are
reminiscent of the geological produce of pressure and time. They appear eager to regain their freedom, to erupt to
the surface. Yet, as transient and fragile as they are, they are powerful and beautiful in their own right.

This practice concentrates on the conceptual and material relationships between the body, materiality, and the
construction of embodied cultural artefacts. The process of drawing is approached as a language rather than an

The present body of work Internal frequencies/ Evidence of an action (2013-14) examine metaphysical responses,
neurosis and communication through various material outcomes, the materiality of this work being specific to the
location of self in which the work is produced.

Weekend of Rowing - The Clarence River will come alive with boats, competitors and
officials, on December 6 and 7 this year, when once again the river’s two major rowing
regattas will be held at Memorial Park in Grafton.
Grafton City Head of the River Regatta (Rowing), Grafton. Many state, national and world
Champion Scullers have been bred along the Clarence River. Rowing has always been a
favourite local sport and the Clarence River is a superb venue.
The Head of the Clarence River Regatta is again expected to draw a large number of schools
to compete. In the past crews have come from New Zealand, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney,
Gold Coast and of course the competitive Clarence Valley schools. The School Boys
Championship eights, the main event of the day, always attracts a lot of interest and
competition is as strong as some of the competitor’s upper torsos.

potential customers as they enjoy a wander around which makes it a great social morning out

especially bromeliads, handmade jewellery, cakes, surfboards. Christmas trees and lights,
handcrafts, timber planters and timber animal cages / bird boxes and the Gem Club is open for
inspection. It's always a surprise what is available with different stallholders turning up each
month with their unique items.
As always there will be a sausage sizzle and cold drinks run by volunteers from the Show
Society that runs the Showgrounds.

Yamba Ocean Swims, Yamba (Distance 1.2km). Starting at Convent Beach Yamba, the
annual event is back and is always a great day out. Cheer on competitors as they make their
way along the course from Convent Beach to Main beach. An exhibition of great
sportsmanship and community.

A traditional Xmas holidays swim on the NSW North Coast, timed to attract the hordes of
holidaymakers who flock to the region between Xmas and New Year. Yamba is a stunningly
beautiful coastal town, with a narrow strip of beach hugging the base of a vertiginous hill, atop
which sits one of the most spectacular pubs on the coast. Make sure you visit the pub: you're
sure to run into mugs whom you might only see in passing during the course of your daily life
far, far away, but you'll also get one of the most spectacular views on the coast.
There are two distances on offer, plus a Dash for Cash. But you must do at least one of the two
main swims in order to qualify for the Dash for Cash.
Things you should know...
 Name - Yamba Ocean Swims
 Organiser - Yamba SLSC
 Date, time - Sunday, December 28, 2014 - 10am (700m), 11am (2km), 1pm (Dash for Cash)
 Distance - 2km, 700m, and 150m Dash for Cash (You must enter one of the two main swims to
qualify to enter the Dash for Cash.
 Venue - Yamba beach. Register on race day at Yamba surf clubhouse on the beach.
 Courses - The 700m swim starts at Convent Beach and finishes at Main Beach. It's a short walk
from registration at the clubhouse at Main Beach to the start. The 2km swim starts and finishes at
Main Beach. The Dash for Cash starts by a buoy 150m offshore from Main Beach and runs into
the beach.
 Race day - Registration for the 700m swim closes at 9am at Yamba surf clubhouse at Main
Beach with swim start at 10am. Registration for the 2km swim closes at 9:30am with swim start at
11am. 150m Dash for Cash starts at 1pm off Main Beach. $200 cash for first male and female.
 Entry Fees - 700m - $20, 2km - $30, Both swims - $40, Dash for Cash - $10 (Dash for Cash
entrants must swim in 700m or 2km to qualify for the Dash). Race day entries are subject to $10
late fee.
 Online entries close - 5pm, Friday, December 26.
 Entries in person - You can enter the swims in person at Yamba surf clubhouse on Saturday
afternoon, December 27, between 2pm and 4pm. You also can enter at the clubhouse on race day
morn, but race day entries are subject to a $10 premium.
 Prizes - Winners of each age category receive a prize as well as first male and female overall.
Presentation of all prizes will take place upstairs in the surf club at after the Dash for Cash.
 Conditions - Yamba is an open surf beach, with all the characteristics that an open surf beach
offers, such as variable breaks, sandbanks, gutters, rips, currents, conditions changing with the

tide's rise and fall, etc -- all the fun of the fair. There is a southern headland that extends
considerably to sea and which offers some protection from the worst of the southerly weather and
swell. If seas are up, organisers have an alternative venue available inside the mouth of the
Clarence River nearby.

Maclean Lions Club Billy Cart Derby will be held at the Maclean Showground, Cameron
Street, Maclean.
The Maclean Lions Club Billy Cart Derby is gearing up for what will be yet another successful
outing down the hills of the Maclean Showground!
There are 3 age groups and 2 classes of Billy carts that contesters can compete in:

Billy Cart Classes:
Soapbox: In the soapbox class wheel sizes are a maximum of 300mm in diameter, some form of
steering and some form of braking, and
Open Class: Must have some form of braking and both classes must have a maximum 1.2m
wheel width, a maximum 2.1m wheel base and no dangerous protrusions. All carts must have 4
wheels.
All drivers must wear a motorcycle helmet, gloves, overalls or long sleeved shirt, long trousers
and closed in footwear.
Scrutineering of carts begins at 9am, with the first race kicking off at 10am.

Lower Clarence Rowing Club, located near Ferry Park at Maclean, will be conducting a learn
to row course.
The course will be conducted over eight Saturday mornings sessions, each session
approximately an hour and a half long and beginning at 8.30am.
The objective of the program is to teach basic rowing skills and boat handling techniques and
develop potential rowers from beginner stage to have sufficient rowing skills to join a Lower
Clarence rowing squad.
Rowing squad training is conducted under the supervision of qualified coaches during the
week.
Squad members are eligible to compete in regattas when they reach an acceptable standard of
rowing proficiency.
Course numbers will be limited to six, the cost of the program is $50.00, $15.00 of which covers
the cost of a recreational rowing membership for Rowing NSW.
If the rower then proceeds to join Lower Clarence as a member, the $50.00 will be discounted
from the LRRC membership fee.

Clarence Valley Orchestra & Chorus with Guest Artists Two Performances Only - 2:00pm &
7:00pm Sunday 19th April 2015.
After their inaugural and very successful An Afternoon at The Proms Concert at the Saraton in
October 2014, The Clarence Valley Orchestra & Chorus conducted by Greg Butcher performs
a tribute concert commemorating 100 Years since WW1. You will hear a special War
Requiem Allies of War written for orchestra and chorus by Australian Composer Greg
Butcher, in honour of the Volunteers who signed up for War Service during WW1 from the
Clarence Valley.
This performance will also commemorate 70 years since the end of WW2, with a tribute to the
entertainers of the Concert Parties who played an important role in entertaining the troops and
keeping up morale. A variety of musical medleys from the songs of Vera Lyn & Marlene
Dietrich to the big band sounds of Glen Miller and the Andrews Sisters to name a few.
A concert not to miss and a salute to all who have served in the Defence Forces.
