CONTENTS
I am currently in the 2nd semester of Dalhousie University’s Master of Architecture program. I am seeking an 8-month internship with an
architecture firm. I am looking forward to the opportunity to contribute to a practice.
I have always been very passionate about cities and their architecture. The impact that architecture can have on the urban realm is
fascinating and is ultimately what drew me into the field. The prospect of working in a big city on a variety of projects and building types
is particularly exciting.
I enjoy working at all scales, from the city scale down to the detail scale. I gain just as much fulfillment from working on a building that
will complement the urban mosaic as I do from solving a puzzle that is a building detail.
I am also interested in building science and building systems, especially passive heating, cooling and ventilation systems as well
as innovative structural systems. By encouraging a systems-based approach to working, my background in atmospheric science
(meteorology) has complimented my interests in building systems.
I enjoy learning new architectural software in my free time. Over the course of my academic career in architecture, I have taught myself
several programs, most notably AutoCAD Architecture and Revit and I continue to work on others. I enjoy architectural visualization
through rendering and 3-d modelling.
I am happy to work both independently and in a team environment and ultimately relish the opportunity to continue my learning in the
field of architecture and to contribute to the life and success of a firm.

01 SHELL HOUSE

Wedged between 3 neighboring buildings on a 5m wide site, the
design features a triple height light well to introduce ample natural
light without sacrificing residents’ privacy. Shell House combines
both a living and working programme, with an home-base office
on the ground floor and living space above.
Served and service spaces divided transversely into three zones
and longitudinally into two zones. The middle transverse zone
features the atrium space which illuminates the North and South
zones. The service core is located along the Western side of the
house.

Roofscape School is a preschool to grade 8 facility in New Glasgow,
Nova Scotia. Its form was conceived as a response to the site’s
topographical conditions. There is a grade change of 5m along
the site’s Eastern boundary, presenting a unique opportunity to
integrate building and landscape, allowing direct circulation onto
certain portions of the school’s roof.

The building is stepped from highest, at the Northern portion of the
site, to lowest, at the Southern portion of the site so as to increase
the amount of natural light reaching the northernmost areas of the
building. Raised portions of the roof are offset from one another,
creating localized high points that bring in more light. The use of
transparency allows light to filter from one space to another.

Situated at Dalhousie University’s last vacant corner site, the building
is divided into four quadrants by using two consistent view planes
throughout. A visual connection between Dalhousie’s Studley and
Carlton campuses is created along the longitudinal plane and a
connection linking institutional and residential is created along the
transverse plane.

The louver system has been updated. By no
longer extending the floor slab and walls from
interior to exterior, thermal bridging will not occur.
A new louver system is fastened to the curtain
wall’s vertical mullions and horizontal mullions,
as shown in Detail A2.

Upon completion of the conceptual design project, a more rigorous
detail analysis was undertaken on the building envelope. This
analysis addressed thermal bridging, water-tightness and moisture
ventilation. Further study revealed that the walls and floor protruding
from the building’s South Facade posed a serious thermal bridging
issue. Details A1 and A2 address this condition.
