Aitkin Rides for Health,
also known as Cancer
Support Center is in need of
volunteers to answer calls in
the office three times a week
or drive clients to their doctor
appointments as needed.
Rides for Health provides
transportation to any Aitkin
County resident seeking treatment for cancer as well as
other illnesses (medical, dental or eye).
Transportation is provided
by a volunteer to any individual who does not have a family member, friend or neighbor available to take them to
their appointment.
Office volunteers work
Monday, Wednesday, and
Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.,
arranging rides and providing
resource information.
All transportation is contingent on availability of a
volunteer driver. Rides for
Health provides transportation anywhere in the State of
Minnesota and drivers are
reimbursed for their mileage.

Medical devices
available on
loan at Legion
The Ironton Legion has a
variety of medical equipment,
including wheelchairs, walkers, canes, shower seats, etc.,
available to loan on a temporary basis to those who need
them. If you need any of these
items for a short period of
time, contact the Legion at
546-5975 to sign an item out
at no cost.
If you have borrowed an
item from the Legion and no
longer need it, please return
the item so others may benefit
from it.
And finally, if you have a
gently-used wheelchair, walker, or other medical device or
item in good condition and
would like to donate it to the
Ironton Legion, call the number above or simply drop it
off at the Ironton Legion during regular business hours.

Deerwood Technologies’ electronic recycling on
Saturday. All proceeds from the recycling go to
Deerwood Technologies’ scholarship fund.
THE KIDS AT THE Cuyuna Range Youth
Center held a teen food shelf dance on
Saturday, Dec. 6. All proceeds from the teen
dance were donated to the local food shelf. In
the front row (l-r) are: Shelbie Seymore and
Emma Stanich. In the back row are: Volunteer
Leeann Kelley Hanson, Gage Dreiling, Ryan
Jansen and Kyle Seymore.
C-I-D Recycling program
The Crosby-Ironton-Deerwood drop-off recycling program, has drop-off bins in the
following locations:
• Crosby: At the Crosby
City Garage, 1077 First Street
SW, by the water tower.
• Ironton: Across the
alley from the city maintenance garage.
• Deerwood: Next to the
Deerwood Fire Hall.
This is a “single-sort”
program, meaning all recyclable items can be deposited
into one bin without being
separated. This also eliminates the need for numerous
recycling bins in your home,
making just one bin necessary.
The drop-off recycling
areas in each city are open 24
hours a day, seven days a
week. The areas are illuminated for after-dark drop-offs,
and instructions for recycling
are posted on signs as well as
the containers themselves.

(all colors), tin cans, newspapers, white paper, envelopes,
magazines/catalogs, phone
books, corrugated cardboard,
and cardboard cereal boxes
(with plastic or paper liners
removed) or other similar
boxes. Make sure all items are
rinsed and free of food
residue. Caps or lids must be
removed, but labels do not
need to be removed. Plastic
jugs, tin cans, and cardboard
should be flattened in order to
maximize container space and
minimize recycling costs.
Items not allowed include
liquids, food waste, waxed
paper products, fabrics, wood,
light bulbs, window glass,
drinking glasses, mirrors, styrofoam products (cups, plates,
trays, etc.), plastic bags, photographic film, rubber products, paper towels and plates,
carbon paper, packing materials, polyvinyl sheeting, shrinkwrap, or what is considered
household hazardous waste—
paint products, household
chemicals, aerosol spray cans,
appliances, power tools, batteries, or containers that have
been used for automotive
chemicals of other similar
products.
When dropping items off
at a recycling bin, please
empty the contents of plastic
bags into the containers. If
you have items in paper bags,
you may place the entire bag
in the bin.

reminder
Residents are reminded to

Library outreach
service available
If you are elderly, homebound, shut-in, or handicapped and unable to travel to
the Jessie F. Hallett Memorial
Library, staff and volunteers
are happy to provide door-todoor library services. Staff
will select and deliver materials such as audiocassettes,
CD books, large-print materials, popular fiction, and periodicals. If you or someone
you know would benefit from

an organiation made up of
parents, coaches, and other
interested community members who support, encourage,
