SPECIAL GUEST FACULTY
Bernadette Mazurek Melnyk is currently the Associate Vice President for Health Promotion, University Chief
Wellness Officer, and Professor and Dean of the College of Nursing at The Ohio State University. She also is a
professor of pediatrics and psychiatry at Ohio State’s College of Medicine. Dr. Melnyk has consulted with
hundreds of healthcare systems and colleges throughout the nation and globe on how to improve quality of care
and patient outcomes through implementing and sustaining evidence-based practice. Her record includes over
19 million dollars of sponsored funding from federal agencies as principal investigator and over 250
publications. Dr. Melnyk is co-editor of four books, including Evidence-based Practice in Nursing &
Healthcare: A Guide to Best Practice, Implementing EBP: Real World Success Stories, A Practical Guide to
Child and Adolescent Mental Health Screening, Early Intervention and Health Promotion, and Intervention
Research: Designing, Conducting, Analyzing and Funding. A Practical Guide for Success.
DESCRIPTION
This program will enable nurses to increase their knowledge of evidence based practice and to identify
strategies to implement the ARCC Evidence-based Practice model. Additionally, nurses will learn how to build
a program of research and measures to speed translation of research into practice.
OBJECTIVES
• Describe the current state of Evidence-based practice
• Discuss key strategies for implementing and sustaining Evidence-based practice in clinical settings
• Describe outcome of implementing the ARCC Evidence-based practice model in healthcare systems
• Describe the “So What” factor in research and EBP
• Discuss how to build an impactful program of research
• Describe two evidence based COPE programs that have produced positive outcomes for vulnerable
children, teens and parents
• Discuss strategies to rapidly translate research findings into real world practice settings
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Registered nurses in any practice setting, faculty in schools of nursing, as well as graduate and undergraduate
nursing students.
CREDIT
CNE: 3.0 contact hours.
Eastern AHEC Department of Nursing Education is an Approved Provider of continuing nursing education by
the North Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s
Commission on Accreditation.
Participants must attend the entire program in order to earn contact hour credit. Verification of
participation will be noted by check-in at the start of the program and an initial-out at the conclusion of
the program. Certificates will be awarded after the participant completes the evaluation.
