TechTips for Wampus
TechSmart is a program by the Byram Hills PTSA to provide information, programs and resources to help families navigate
parenting issues related to the internet, media and technology.
December TechTip – Holiday Tech. With holiday gifts and extra time over winter break just around the corner,
consider these holiday tech tips:
· Set expectations ahead of time about amount of time kids may use tech and devices over break.
· Review and set up parent controls or restrictions for new devices before kids open gifts.
· Include written family agreements about appropriate use of new technology when kids open gifts.
· Be a positive role model for how to use tech safely and appropriately – online and offline.
· Ask kids to show YOU what is great about the newest apps and games they are using.
· Want more? Search online for additional family holiday tech tips; there are numerous blogs and resources at
the sites listed on the TechSmart home page.
Communication is one of the most important aspects of parenting in the digital age. Speak regularly with your children
about safe, appropriate and responsible use of technology.
For more cyber safety information visit bhptsa.org / Resources / TechSmart and for grades 3-5 resources visit bhptsa.org /

As busy as our lives are, juggling so many demands, community service is an important value to many
of us. Sharing the experience and the reward with our children is a welcome way to spend some time
especially after the holidays. Please join the Working Parents Committee for our very first service
activity.

The Working Parents Committee of the Byram Hills PTSA serves all families who have limited time
availability, challenging schedules and are juggling multiple priorities outside of family life. Our
goal is to enable all parents, regardless of employment status, to have an impact on their
children’s school lives. In addition, we strive to support working parents by creating a forum to
share advice and guidance as well as provide networking and mentoring opportunities. While
much of the committee’s work will benefit dual career families, we are confident that many of our
contributions will positively impact the community overall.
