The Colorado River chiseled its way down the sandstone strata
of the Grand Canyon, over one mile deep and 277 miles long,
on a journey that has lasted millions of years. You may wish to
start your own journey just a few steps from your lodge with
a Grand Canyon sunrise, a truly magical spectacle that defies
comparison anywhere! A local geologist is on hand today to
share expert insights on the canyon’s history and ecology, after
we cross the Navajo Reservation and the Painted Desert en
route to Glen Canyon National Recreation Area for a two-night
stay at Lake Powell. This evening, a true highlight – a private
Lake Powell dinner cruise aboard a sleek double-decked yacht
exclusively for Tauck guests only. Meals BD
4. FliGhtSeeinG & more At lAke Powell
The Glen Canyon Dam took 17 years to fill up Glen Canyon,
transforming the Colorado River into 186-mile-long Lake Powell!
Fringed by fjord-like canyons, it’s one of the largest man-made
bodies of water ever created; there’s no lake like it on Earth.
We’ll take you to see its hidden wonders by air on an included
30-minute morning flightseeing excursion* showcasing incredible
views of the red-rock sculptures found here – including Rainbow
Bridge, the world’s largest natural arch, about as tall as the
Statue of Liberty! See more of nature’s architecture up-close on
an optional small plane flight to Monument Valley*, followed by
a four-hour driving tour through the Navajo Tribal Park, available
at an additional cost (see Monument Valley Option on page 27).
Today’s explorations include an off-road adventure* with an
expert guide to explore some of the incredible sandstone slot
canyons in the Navajo Nation, hidden to most visitors, where
beams of sunlight put on an amazing show. Dinner is at your
leisure tonight at your hotel on the shores of the lake. Meals BD

This morning’s leisurely float trip* – there are no rapids on this
stretch of the river – on the muddy waters of the Colorado
River takes you through Glen Canyon; your experienced river
adventure guide imparts a wealth of knowledge about the
canyon as you glide past colorful walls of Navajo sandstone.
Leave Arizona and drive through iconic Utah landscapes that
have served as ideal locations for movie and TV westerns over
the years; have lunch in Kanab, dubbed “Little Hollywood” for
the many productions shot there. Arrive this afternoon in Bryce
Canyon National Park – a wondrous land of pines, pinnacles
and oddly sculpted formations known as hoodoos, resembling
the towers of fairy-tale castles. Magnificent spires, tinted with
shades of pink, orange and red, put on a captivating show as
the light changes throughout the day. Keep an eye open for the
