What is a Saveaway?
Saveaways are one-day tickets that you can use for travel on buses, trains and some
Ferry services in Merseyside. Saveaways can be great value for money compared to
ordinary tickets.
There are Saveaway Tickets for adults and young people covering:
•Liverpool
•Southport/Formby
• St Helens
•Wirral
• All Areas (whole of Merseyside and as far as Chester, Ellesmere Port and Ormskirk
by rail only)

You can buy your Saveaways
from:

How to use your Saveaway
Once you have your Saveaway, you can use it as often as you like after 9.30am
Monday to Friday and all day Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays, throughout the
area shown.
If you bought your ticket from a rail station
and it looks like this
The ticket is valid on
• Merseyrail trains in Merseyside and as far as Chester, Ellesmere Port and
Ormskirk (you must have an “all-areas” ticket to travel to and from stations
outside the Merseyside boundary)
• The Mersey Ferries (“all areas” Saveaways only). When travelling by ferry, show
your ticket at the ticket office and receive a boarding pass. You cannot use
Saveaway tickets on River Explorer Cruises and must break your journey at
another terminal.
• All bus services*
*Except night buses and special bus services
Remember, Saveaway tickets are “not transferable”, which means they can only be
used by one person.
• All staffed rail stations in Merseyside
and as far as Ellesmere Port, Chester
and Ormskirk.

gate or

If you have bought a Saveaway on a Walrus card
that looks like this

• place it on the card reader at rail station
gates or on board buses and hold it there
until the green light shows or
• show it to a member of staff if there is no
card reader or
• Merseytravel Centres
• take it to the Mersey Ferry ticket desk for a boarding card
Keep your receipt once you have bought your smart Saveaway as this may be
needed along with your smartcard to check your ticket is valid.
These Saveaways must be used on

with a Walrus smartcard
that Saveaways can be
loaded onto. Once you
have a Smartcard, you
can purchase a Saveaway
at any PayPoint outlet
nationwide.
