A s has been mentioned previously, the number of calls
and letters received a t the A.C.T.A. office points to the fact
that the majority of shooters are unaware of the depth of
cover provided by the Associations Public Liability Policy,
which is not, as many believe, an accident policy.
To help each member to be fully wnversant with the
information that has been provided to each club Secretary
I am enclosing in the C.T.S.N. a reasonably detailed
summary of the protection that the cover affords.
This summary has been presented to the insurers who
have confirmed its accuracv in writinp to the A.C.T.A.

JUNIOR SHOOTERS &
QUEENSLAND
FIREARMS ACT
The following advice has been received from the
Secretary of the Q.C.T.A. to legally allow junior shooters to
compete, CLUBS MUST APPLY IN WRITING to:
Inspector Cain, Police Headquarters. 30 Makerston Street,
Brisbane a d . 4000 and seek his permission for juniors
between the aees of 14 and 17 to-be allowed to become
members, be Gstruoted in the safe handling of firearms
and compete in events under the supervision of club
captains, range officers and club coaches.
Inspector Cain is the sole authorised Officer to grant this
permission.
A draft application letter is available by contacting the
State Secretary, Mrs Bev Grice.
NOTE: The permission required relates only to juniors
over the age of 14 years and below 17 years and must be
obtained by the respective clubs.
Failure to obtain this permission would immediately
place the club in a disadvantageous position should a claim
arise under the Public Liability Insurance Policy as the
club would be contrbvening the State Laws.

News has just reached me via Tom Almond that one of
Clay Target Shooting's long time member in Cyril
Fankhauser has passed away at the age of 79 a t his home
in Metung where he has lived in recent years.
Cvril was a Life Member of the Australian and Croydon
GGClubs.
He was very active with his brother Vic in establishing
the Australian Gun Club on Vic's property at "Frog
Hollow" as the location was named in 1947.
Cyril owned and always used a beautiful Purdy Double
~ a r r eShotgun.

VALE - Gordon Witharn
Wangaratta Gun Club members were saddened by the
recent death of Gordon Witham.
Gordon had been a club member since 1970 and was well
known in shooting circles.
He was particularly supportive of younger shooters and
will be sadly missed by his many friends.

WORLD
CHAMPIONSHIPS SUHL, EAST GERMANY
A large contingent of Australian Shooters from all
disciplines are scheduled to compete at the 1986 World
Championships from September 2-15,
Clay Target, Trench and I.S.U. Skeet, will each have a
three man team competing. Each team will be as those for
the Commonwealth Games further strengthened by the
inclusion of Russell Mark (Trench) and Craig Meuleman
(I.S.U. Skeet) who will both be representing Australia for
the first time. We wish them and the team well.

COMPETES FOR
SINGAPORE AIRLINES
TROPHY
Perfect weather and conditions were experienced at the
Wakehurst Gun Club, Sydney, on 1June, 1986, for the 4th
year of the Sinzapore Airlines "Champion of Champions"
shooting competition.
Same 85 professional Clay and Skeet target shooters
from the New South Wales area battled hard to win this
magnificent trophy. Over 55 mixed targets i.e. 10 targets
single bdrrel, 10 targets double barrel, 10 targets point
score and 25 targets skeet.
"C" Grade shooter, 18year old Mark Agar, who was the
"C" Grade winner of this trophy in 1985, had a
magnificent score and stole the limelight with an overall
win of 71 out of 75 from " A Grade shooter, Chris Naudin
with a score of 68 out of 75 and "B" Grade shooter Eric
Stan0 with a score of.67 out of 75, who were also winners
in last years competition.
The "C" Grade winner for this year is a new member to
Walrehurst Gun Club, Mr Ray Lainey. with a score of 66
out of 75. Miss Carol Mann was the Most Improved Ladies
Shooter of the day with a score of 59 out of 75.
Mr Jon Howse, Sales Manager NSW, for Singapore
Airlines, and also Mr Charles Abela, District Sales
Manager Sydney, also from Singapore Airlines and a
Committee member of the Wakehurst Gun Club, Sydney.

rules and regulation of the respective club, State
Association and A.C.T.A.
NOTE: Any organised event for participating
visitors, such as school children etc who are not
registered shooters with the A.C.T.A. must first of
all have been officially ratified by your club at a
constituted meeting and minuted accordingly.
Should this requirement not be complied with then
difficulties could and may possibly arise in the event
of a claim under the Public Liability Policy.
PUBLIC LIABILITY
POLICY
IN THE INTERESTS OF ALL REGISTERED
SHOOTERS.
The Public Liability Policy that has been arranged for
the A.C.T.A. by Carlingford Australia is designed to
provide specific protection for the Association and its
registered members.
The A.C.T.A. Public Liability Insurance Policy protects
the Association and its members from being sued for
alleged negligenceiblame attaching to an incident causing
property damage or bodily injury.
If a shooter is injured in any way during the cause of a
sanctioned event where no blame can be attached to the
A.C.T.A. and its members any claim that may have been
made would not be recognised under the policy conditions
as it would then be classified as a personal cia* coverbd
by an insurance that the shooter may have in force on a
personal basis.
Protection is afforded to the following, who subject to
certain conditions, are considered to be members of the
A.C.T.A.

Paid personnel such as, trappers, trap mechanics or
any other paid staff are subject to the provisions of
the workers compensation act and protection must
be obtained for them from the appropriate authority.

Clubs who have life members of similar, where no
affiliation fee is paid to either the Club or the
A.C.T.A. by reason of there inactivity in the sport a t
Club and or A.C.T.A. level are fully protected under
the same conditions as would apply to "registered
Shooters".
9.
Clubs who may have sponsors or the like attending
their premises as "Honorary Members" on a more
frequent basis than would he seen to be a visitor are
fully protected under the same conditions as would
apply to registered shooters.
10.
Clubs conducting events that are outside the rules
pertaining to regular competition, which are broadly
knownas "Novelty Events" are fully proteotedunder
the terms and conditions of the A.C.T.A. Public
Liability Policy providing that all other conditions
relating to safety etc have been complied with.
This protection extends to shoots conducted between
different shooting disciplines such as a combination of
Clay Target and field and game.
Clubs electing to become Incorporated bodies should be
able to use the master A.C.T.A. Policy to fulfil the

Situations arising that may not be covered in this policy

The existing policy therefore extends to all persons
likely to be on the grounds for a Club, State or National
event.
The need for individual Club or State Associations to
undertake a policy of their own is eliminated other than
they may require cover for an amount in excess of the
existing $2,000,000.
Visitors, other than children who must be under the care
of a responsible person must a t all times sign the visitors'
book which must be provided by all clubs for that purpose.
All shooting events ,nust be sanctioned under the rules
of the National body.
NOTE: Club shooters, not registered with the A.C.T.A. are
not covered under any circumstances other than operating
as avoluntary worker a t an organised event. This category
of shooter-member is solely a club responsibility and
insurance cover should be considered at all times as a club
expense.
FOR INFORMATION: Further extensions included within
the policy are: Member to member, Food and Drink, Care,
custody and control, Medical and welfare facilities.

vehicles, Car Parking, Cross Liabilities.

I have recently returned from Canberra where the
programme for the national squad's stay a t the Institute of
Sport was finalized, a t the same time the executive
director. Alan Maher and myself had meetings with those
a t the sports commission in regard to the grants from the
Federal Government, a s i t is form filling time once again.
Last month I mentioned in my article the intention of the
government to improve sport through the National
Coaching Scheme, but did not mention that the
government h a s funded the position of National Coaching
of the activities of the National
Director.

I think we must give credit where credit is due. The Clay
Target Association is of course expected to contrihute to
the coaching scheme, not only does the Clay Target
Association both federal and state contrihute to coaching
a t all levels, but so do the individuals involved in the
scheme, they do i t willingly a s i t is something they believe
in.
Last year 6,200 people had some form of coaching from
those involved, a grand effort.
The g o v e r n m e n t a l s o c o n t r i b u t e s to o v e r s e a s
competition a s d o e s t h e Commonwealth G a m e s
Association and the Olympic Federation, without all this
assistance few sports could mount professional coaching
schemes or compete a t a world level.
I would like to express my thanks to Alan Maher for his
efforts in Canberra o n our sports behalf.
The Commonwealth Games will be on by the time you
read this, so I would like to fill you in on the details a s I
know them so far, the Clay Target is to be shot a t Kippen
about 50 miles north west of Edinburgh. The team is to be
bused out to the range each day and will stay a t the
Edinburgh University.
The competition commences with the badge match,
Terry Rumbel and Doming0 Diaz trap on July 21, and Ian
Hale and Aleo Crikis skeet on July 22, the teams matches
are, trap July 25 and skeet July 26 with the individual
events being held on 28. 29 and 31 July and 1 August.
The team members are huilding up their shooting
training, a s they have huilt up their physical fitness. and
are all looking forward to the week i n the Institute Of
Sport with the national squad prior to leaving. ,The skeet
team is to compete i n the English Grand Priv prior to the
zames.

The team for the World Championships is a great one,
the talent is there and the confidence. we have six
determined Australians who are going to show the rest of
the world that Australia and Australians are fighters, they
might not think much of our dollar, but they will know we
have heen to Edinburgh and Suhl.
I would like to give my best wishes to the skeet team
going to the US for the competition there, what a lot of

talent in that team, one member Bill Iles has now
represented u s in D.T.L. in England Olympic Trap a the
World Championships last year and now in American
Skeet i n America, only Olympic Skeet to go Bill.
While I am absent this column will he conducted by some
of the State Coaching Directors and I a m looking forward
to reading i t when I return home.
J u s t to close there was aninteresting article i n the U.I.T.
magazine by the medical writer, i t had to do with coloured
glasses and the effect that they have on vision, in
particular yellow glasses, the conclusion that they came to
was that yellow glass helped to increase the eyes' ability to
define the target in misty or cloudy conditions and they
also assist eyes with slightly faulty vision to distinguish
the target from the hackground.
I would however like to add that i t is important to put the
glasses on for about 20 minutes before shooting to allow
the muscles of the eve to adiust.

Although the Nationals a t Echuca were a while ago, we
would like to say that i t was good
to see our state well
represented.
South Australia shot well in the Shoulder to Shoulder
team but Queensland proved too good, our congratulations
go to them.
Craig Bentley was the Overall teams High Gun winner.
he never missed a target (very well shot Craig). The S.A.
team looked really smart i n their new jackets and caps.
The shirts and jumpers with the pea flower emblem are
available to anyone. your Cluh Secretary has all details.
A coaching school was held a t Bordertown Gun Club.
organized by the Eastern Zone on May 24. I t was attended
fairly well by about forty shootcxs and coached by Peter
Quire, W a r y Bain and Trevor Reschke. With all shooters
on video, Peter then descrihed their faults, or good stance.
After a good lunch supplied by the Bordertown ladies,
Peter showed a video on how to stand and shoot correctly.
We then went to the tracks and tried to put i t all together.
All i n all i t was a good day, quite a few young shooters
had their first really professional instruction, and I feel
sure they will benefit from it.
Many thanks to Peter, Hillary and Trevor plus the zone
committee for their work.
On Sunday June 1, Jill Rundle (who attended the
coaching day) and Lyn Beelitz, two young women from
Wilkawatt Gun Cluh shot 25/25 each i n the Handicap event
a t Lake Albert Gun Club. The shoot off was won by Lyll
43/43 from Jill 42/43.
Congratulations girls yon showed the fellas up that time.
Lyn went on to win the days High Gun which was Lyn's
first, and probably the first time the High Gun h a s been
won by a lady a t Lake Albert.
The Lake Albert Cluh has to move from its present site.
A new club house has been erected on a ground closer to
Meningie. and trap house pits have been dug out. I t is
starting to look real good.

"The Best in the West"
The Condamine Clay Target Clubs '86 Annual Shoot got
under way on June 14, with over 60 shooters taking pact.
Shooters travelled from far and wide to do hattle with
those elusive black targets as tbey hurtled from the traps.
The first event of the day was the 25 T DB Condamine
Bell C'Ship whioh saw R. Fett of Sunshine Coast take
overall and AA Grade with a score of 25125. AA Grade; 2nd

Throughout Saturday afternoon shooters could be seen
at the soore board studying the form of shooters and
speculating on who would be "a good buy" in the Calcutta
Auction which got under way with some spirited bidding
on Saturday evening after a most enjoyable meal. After
several lighter pockets and much hilarity the auction came
to a conclusion with a pool of $2470.
Sunday saw an increase in numbers of shooters with the
cloudy.conditionsimproving as the day progressed.
The first event on the program 30 Target Points Patrons
Trophy tested those not quite feeling "in the p i n k with H.
McDonald taking out overall to aoquire a Jason Recliner
Rocker for his effort. AA Grade; 1st G. Kocho, 2nd G. Fett,
A Grade; 1st C. Jackman, 2nd D. Batterham. B Grade; 1st
R. Ziesemer, 2nd W. Daniels, C Grade: K. Blain. 2nd W.
Butler.
The 40 T Handicap Calcutta got under way with buyers
keeping fingers crossed a s they followed progress. At the
completion 4 men S. Hart, D. Cameron, L. Ripley. J. Box
shot 38 for $617.50 to their buyers or syndicates.
The last event. 25T S.B. Condamine Bell C'Ship saw
Condamine Club Shooter Jeff Ferrier take out overall with
25/25. AA Grade; 1st M. Barton 24/25,2nd R. Fett 23/25, .4
Grade; W. Hughes 28/25,2nd J. Herbert 22/25. B Grade: J.
Ferrier 25/25, 2nd H. McDonald 23125. C Grade; 1st T.

Condamine shooter Roland Ziesemer took out the High
Gun Trophy, Intermediate High Gun; Lewis Ziesemer,
Front Marker; Una Jackman, with Greg Kooho once again
taking the honours for the Kiwi Trophy. The Lou Hasted
Memorial Teams Shoot was won by Gold Coast with 184
points, the closest to them was St George with 179 points.

The heavens provided us with two icy cold windy days for
our two day Skeet Carnival which was held onMay 24 and
25. This certainly did not dampen the enthusiasm of the
forty competitors in attendance. Outstanding shooting
was the order of the weekend.
Cliff Fergusson, a well-respected local member, showed
everyone his true colours by going from C grade to B
made. He shot 47/50 on the Saturdav and 48150 on
&mdav.

Bill Bewrick, one of our newer well-liked members
showed great potential by shooting very consistently over
the two days. Keep it up Bill.
Bill Clark, the old familiar face of skeet, shot true to
form to win A grade in the 50t May Championship with a
score of 57/58. On the Sunday he had a repeat
performance, winning the 50t Newcastle Gun Club
Championship, his score being 51/54.

It is great to see the talent shining through in our two
junior Shooters namely Brett Winning and Michael

Skill and consistency were the order of the weekend for
all the Sydney shooters some of whom were R. Clarke, J .
WilberPorce, J . Worley, S. Subonj, J . Pethybridge. E.
Schutte and C. Hlavaty - great to see you all again.
Last but certainly by no means least, is the shooter to be
feared and "avoided at all costs namely, Ray Lainey. He is
a real dark horse, came out of the blue and shot us all off
the skeet field. There are no two ways about it. This
gentleman is an outstanding shooting champion - wait
for it - after or~lytwelve weeks!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the visitors
for their attendance and also to thank each and every one
of the Newcastle Club members for their organization and
fine efforts in making the weekend such a success. It was

The Association held i t s fourth annual Trap Carnival a t
Jabiru over the Queen's Birthday weekend. Although
numbers were down, the Carnival was reasonably
successful. A report on the shoot is forthcoming.

Jabiru's brand new trap house didn't last long! Local girl
Robyn Merkl gave i t 500 of the best during the State
Carnival to ensure the paintwork wasn't too glary too long.
Hubby Heinz, who did a great job around the trap and
walks was reportedly 'not amused'.
Darwin shooter Peter Hoare continues to improve.
Shooting i n 'C' grade, he recorded a 4 8 in the Double Barrel
to take grade honours. A slump in the Handicap event for a
41 was a disappointment, but one which will quickly be
overcome, ~ ' m y u r e .
Other remarkable performances in 'C' grade came from
two local shooters. Brian 'Prairie Dog' Priest, and Johnny
McLeod. The Prairie Dog shot 10110 and 46150 i n the
opening single barrel events a t the Carnival, but slumped
thereafter, with all the hard work done. McLeod came
second in 'C' grade in the double barrel with a 47/50,
fetched $50 in the Calcutta, and proceeded to win i t off 14
metres with a n unopposed 49150. 'B' graders. beware!
Tom Weis shot from 'B' grade to within one target of 'AA'
over the weekend, and also recorded a 49 straight i n the
handicap before dropping the 50th bird. We'll give you the
benefit of the doubt. Tom. Well shot!
Tom also eot into the N.T. Shoulder to Shoulder team for
the 1987 asb bane Nationals with a score of 4661510. Not

.Junior High Gun for the Carnival was, guess who, none
other than the above, terribleTom again. Ladies' High Gun
went to Jan Bitossi, and Overall High Gun went to John
Doyle, who also picked u p the single barrel event.
Phil Grove shot immaculate scores of 1491150 and
1481150 in the Points Score events, but honours for
shooting belong with Bob Hooper who, after a disastrous
score of 1321150. had almost decided to eo home. However.
the unsmiling one returned to form &h a vengeance to
take the Double Barrel title with 92192.

Sad to say that the expected contingent of MacArthur
River. Alice and Gove shooters didn't come to the Carnival.
It may be time for the Executive to take along, hard lookat
the shoots being held immediately prior to the State
Carnival and either limit these, or preferably slot the State
show later in the year and closer to the next year's
Nationals. Nine and ten months waiting i s a long time.
Last thing on the State Carnival, but not least, was the
splendid shooting of Paul Seis in the Double Rise title. In
a n event where most of the fancied shooters fell by the
wayside, Seis was supreme, and took the title with 46/50.

On the debit side of the ledger, the bickering over trivia
by experienced shooters who supposedly should know
better, had to be heard to be believed. Sweepstakes,
selection of teams, order of shooting events, and other
sundry items ad nauseam were criticised, even when the
program clearly spelled out conditions. Executive
members didn't inspire confidence when they were heard
to remark that the first they had seen of the programme

was when i t appeared in the 'News'. What were THEY
doing in the six months o r so before the Carnival was held?
NOT GOOD ENOUGH AT ALL. EXEC. Let's hope that
much more thought and effort goes into future State
carnivals, starting with the September Skeet titles, three
months away.
Darwin Gun Club's BIG shoot comes around again a t the
end of July, beginning of August. The programme hasn't
changed a great deal over the last few years, it's like
Topsy. 'just growed'. Thursday night's-shoot starts the
ball rolling, Friday i s Trench and Skeet, and then Trap
takes over. Fishing and geeselduck shooting complete the

Last year's attendance was down ~ r e a t l von ~ r e v i o u s
years, but all indications point to a bu&perAcrop of
shooters this year. It's a pity that Geraldton's 'Cray Shoot'
clashes, a s the Geraldtonians are wonderful ambassadors
for the Western State.
It was good to see that E m Hawkins is returning this
year. compliments of a n airfare h e won a t last year's
tourney. Welcome back, Ern.

SKEET NATIONALS WAGGA GUN CLUB
Once again to keep all you 'skeeties' u p to date with the
skeet Nationals a t Wagga Gun Club, here i s a report about
the progress a t the club.
Since the last report the skeet houses and grounds have
really progressed. All the new layouts have been
completed. with station marks and safety fences.
By the time this is printed all distance measurements
and station marks, etc will be i n place for the portable
layout. We now have 5 permanent layouts (1 Balltrap and
10 Trap layouts a s well).
The new grass seeds that were planted and spread about

rain.

New trees have also been planted (at this stage over 30,
with more to be done) they are about 3-4 feet high and

Publicity i s still excellent with lead up stories and most
media organised for results and stories. At this stage,
Sports Sunday look like doinga story about 3 weeks before
the Championships and some results afterwards.
There i s a two day skeet shoot in September and that
would be a n ideal time to shoot a t the grounds and see the
progress that has been made to the club.
The club now loolcs like a high quality clay target
shooting ground, and once the new club house is built and
completed (completion due by the Trap Nationals i
n 1988)
it may certainly be one of the best in Australia.

November (if not before).

W.A.C.T.A. REPORT
I travelled to Kalgoorlie on 31 May to 1 June for the
Eastern Goldfields Gun Club's 2 day Carnival. The
weather, although cold in the mornings, was warm and
sunny all the weekend, with no wind.
This made the targets easy to see and to hit for most
shooters. Alan Hocking (Geraldton)took off the High Gun
with a score of 2731275, a fine display of concentration and
dedication.
David Fox (Collie) also most impressive displaying his
casual but most effective style also with a 2731275, before
the High Gun Shoot off.
Many other shooters shot extremely well to help make
the weekend for the E.G.G.C. most successful and
enjoyable for us all. Jim Neve (President) along with his
committee are to be congratulated. I must make mention
of the roast dinner on Sunday, it was tops, thankyou
ladies.

On a lighter note the saying 'It's the shooter not the gun'
was backed up by and incident I noticed. Young David
Farthine (W.A.G.C.) nervouslv went out to a shoot-off and
after shooting some 30 odd targets, on returning stood at
the entrance to the layout, with a silly look on his Paoe
asking whose gun he had used by mistake.
Terry Morony, Zone 1 delegate, reports on recent doings
at the W.A. Gun Club. On 8 June the Miok Jackson Cup for
100 skeet was ably won by the Club Handicapper Clem
Bertini 971100. On 15 June, trench was won by Murray
Alexander with 921100.
Mick Callaghan showed his all round excellence and
consistency by winning three Club Championships - on
18 May the Mixed Targets with 60165, and 21 June the
Single Barrel with 27128 after shoot-off with Murray
Alexander, and the DIB Points with 74/75.
On 5 June both Murray Alexander and myself were
invited to a presidents meeting by the Department for
Sport and Recreation to discuss results of a survey on
Sports Instant Lottery Fund.
As you know we receive a great deal of financial support
in terms of such as funding the new Shooting Complex,
travel grant for state teams travelling to Nationals and
grants to clubs for equipment.
This meeting was of course my first and I was very
impressed, to say the least, with the report that our
Coaching Director, Murray Alexander has with the
Director and his executive members on a personal level as
well as our sport. I was able to see at first hand how Clay
Target Shooting has fared so well in the last few years.
After meeting the Director. John Graham, and quite a
few of the Department for Sport and Recreation people,
olus manv executives of other State swrtinp associations.
It is most apparent that thls ~ e p a r t m e n thas been
instrumental in the rapid growth of sports in general in the
State.
My counterparts in other sports would join me in
applauding the State Government £or their continuing
support. On the 28th of this month (June) your Executive
Council meets for an Ordinary Meeting.
I have instituted a new idea of inviting club presidents as
observers to our meeting and to join us for lunch. Three
clubs (starting in alphaorder) W be invited to have their
presidents attend each meeting.
Hopefully this idea will have the effect of bringing clubs
and your State Association together for a closer working
relationship plus a better understanding of the workings
within the Executive.
Remember, we need your input and if you think your
Association is going about something in a manner with
which you do not agree. then write or talk to one of us
about it; on the other hand, if you think we are on the right

cartridges in the gun only when on the shooting station
and facing forward, and open the gun before turning to
leave the shooting station, with emphasis on resisting that
panic-stricken urge to turn around with the gun still closed and pointing towards other shwters or speclators.
I then gsve a target by target description of a round of
skeet and how to s h w t each individual target. I should
mention that I was using a blackboard as a tcaching aid,
and we also had a tall wooden peg at the target crossing
point to use as avisual reference for position, and apegout
from each house to refer to a s the aiming point.
I advised using a f w t of lead on low 1 and high 7 . 2 feet
on station 2 . 3 on 3.4 on 4. 3 on 5 . 2 on 6. We had a board 4
feet long lying on its edge at the crossing point, this made
it easy to explain to each shooter as we went around, just
how far to lead, for example, on station 4 have a look a t the
board and then keep it in your mind that you have to shoot
that distance in front of the target.
Considering that only three of the visitors had ever shot
at clay targets before, none of them had ever seen skeet,
and some had never even used a -a.
. the visitors are to be
commended on their performance, particularly with
regard to their safety standard.
Of the visitors, two of them with 14125 shot off for the
visitors trophy with the junior member winning 16125,
thanks to his calm attitude and attention to instructions.
The visitors had to shoot the full round to be eli~ible
for a
mystery trophy, the mystery being station 8. one soore of
2 got the trophy.
Of the Gun Club members who were dubious about.
ahwting skeet, one of them shot his first straight 25 and
another dropped high 1 and smoked the next 24, his
highest score so far. Hopefully, I will get the club interested in shooting more skeet.
The day was disappointing in that only five shooters attended. Some were sick with 'flu, others were farming, and
no doubt some are afraid of aircraft.
Nevertheless, we had an enjoyable day, and look forward
to making L
i an annual event, next time with the emphasis
on "starting on time".

D/B CHAMPION
A large field of shooters participated in the Mount
Gambier Gun Club's District Double Barrel Championship
which is held annually at the June shoot.
Each year the event is sponsored by Mount Gambiers
Trident Tyre Centre, who again this year provided an
excellent array of trophies.
At the end of the 25 target qualifying round, two
possibles had been recorded, Bob Andrews of Bordertown
and Club Secretary Phil Green and after a short shoot-off.
Andrews emerged the winner and will hold the Trident
Tyre Centre Perpetual Cup for the next twelve months.
Shot in conjunction with the District Double Barrel
Championship was a qualifying round for the "Andrews
Family Trophy" meeting being held at Bordertown in
December.
Green will participate in the competition with Andrews
ineligible.
The Mount Gambier Gun Club will hold their Annual
Carnival Shoot on October 11 featuring four day events
and the Commonwealth Night Pointscore Championship.

CLUB
The Springsure Gun Club will be hosting a big weekend
shoot on August 9 and 10. 1986.
The main event being the simulated Field Shoot on
Sunday.
Last years sucoessful TOP SHOT winner was K. Harlow
45/50.
This year the 50t event (Saturday) is being sponsored by
Lloyd Wotton and promises to be a great competition.
The club grounds have proved to be an excellent setting
for field shooting. and visitors can be assured of the best
hospitality.

The June issue advised that minimum trophies for
ZoneIDistrict Titles for the remainder of 1986 was to he
$100.00 (total event).
This amount only applies to Zone Titles as the value of

The Annual General Meeting held o n 1 3 May. 1986, saw
some changes in office bearers.
Brian Dowell was elected to the msition of President,
while Tony Elliott and Ian ~ e a c o c kwill assist a s VicePresidents.
Robert Baker takes the position of SecretaryITreasurer
for the eighteenth consecutive year, and was also
appointed a s Club Handicapper.
Shoot Marshals are David Hartnett and John Maggan,
while Publicity Officer i s Don Clout.
The Club shoots on the second Sunday of the month over
two Winchester traps, with facilities for night shooting on
one.
Half nominations apply for Juniors, Ladies and Veterans
on Championship and Trophy events.

Club into recess for a period of twelve

Hopefully we will be able to begin monthly shoots again in the future.
