Today is December 28, 2014 — Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph
TODAY
No one who saw Jesus, Mary and Joseph would have known that they were witnessing the dawn of a new age.
Simeon and Anna only recognized the Holy Family because God was active in the situation. It took faith to see
beyond a newborn baby to the crucifixion and the resurrection. Simeon needed courage to warn Mary that her
joy also heralded pain. Joseph would be presented with a responsibility he had never anticipated. According to
tradition, Joseph died before Jesus began his adult ministry, so he was no longer around to support Mary when
she was most in need of his quiet strength and fidelity.
Family life may not be a bed of roses. Every family will have problems to face. Every family will know troubles
and sorrows. Sometimes families break apart because the problems become too many, or the challenges of
living together become too great. At such times they may be in special need of our loving concern and support.
But there can be an unbreakable bond, a unique friendship and an unflinching strength that carries a family
through good times and bad. Every family has moments of great joy as well as times that are difficult, when it is
only the love between them that gives them the courage they need as they face things they had never
expected and would never have wanted. Mary and Joseph gave Jesus the foundation that prepared him for
Calvary - and also for Easter Sunday. May their example and their prayers bring our families courage in the bad
times, and joy in the good.

TAXES AND YEAR END GIVING
As you might already know, charitable giving is one of the few tax provisions that was not affected greatly by the Revenue
Reconciliation Act of 1992. People use this time of year to help their parish and at the same time enjoy tax benefits.
Christmas is a very special time of sharing. If you have not participated in the Annual Appeal, this affords an excellent
opportunity. Your Christmas gift to your Parish would be another way to accomplish this. Electronic Giving is another
opportunity for you not have to write out a check every week and is easily done by visiting our website (details below). You
may donate securities, which is a great sharing of our possessions. Christmas and year’s end are a spiritual opportunity to
make a return to God for His many blessings.

ARCHDIOCESAN ANNUAL APPEAL
The Archdiocesan Annual Appeal provides services above and beyond what individual parishes can perform to address
pressing educational, vocational and social needs in our Church and our community. Your support is vital. Our assessment
this year is $133,800 and we currently have pledges of $121,498 from 277 of our 2100 registered families. We need your
support this year. Please give this your prayerful consideration. Your contribution will benefit so many within our Archdiocese.

WALK FOR LIFE: SATURDAY, JANUARY 24, 2015
For the third year St Cecilia will Walk for Life! We will depart from the 17th Ave Church entrance at 12 noon and take Muni
down to the Civic Center Plaza. Join us for both the rally and the Walk or for the rally only. The hallmark of the Walk is the
