General Information, Rules and Guidelines
Eligibility
 This competition is open only to members of MYSO's
String Orchestra.
 Previous winners of the competition are ineligible.
 The student may audition only on his/her MYSO
instrument unless approved by the Music Director.
Application and deadline
 Application must be mailed or hand delivered to the
MYSO office (325 W. Walnut Street, Milwaukee, WI
53212) and received no later than Monday,
November 17, 2014.
 Only complete application forms will be accepted.
 The applicant must have the attached form signed by
his or her private teacher.
 A postcard (or e-mail) confirming receipt of your
application will be sent. Please call the MYSO office if
you do not receive this confirmation as of Friday,
November 28.
Award
 The winner(s) will perform with the MYSO String
Orchestra at an upcoming MYSO community
engagement concert on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. This is
a daytime event. The winner(s) will also be featured in
the MYSO Sensational Strings concert on Sunday,
May 17, 2015, 5:00 PM, at Helen Bader Concert Hall,
Helene Zalazo Center for the Performing Arts.
 The judges may elect not to choose a winner. Their
decisions are final.
Music
 Memorization is preferred.
 Applicants must have piano accompaniment for the
audition. MYSO will not provide accompanists; families
must make these arrangements themselves. If you are

having difficulty finding an accompanist, please call the
MYSO office for assistance.
 Applicant’s competition selection must be chosen from
repertoire list on reverse side. Applicant is expected to
prepare entire movement.
 If you are having trouble finding the music, please
speak with your String Orchestra conductor right away.
Scheduling
 The competition will take place only on Saturday,
January 10, 2015, during daytime hours at MYAC.
Exact times to be determined based on judge
availability. No alternate audition days or time periods
can be offered.
 Be sure to note on the application whether there are
any times on the day of the competition, January 10,
that you would not be able to compete. Please
consider your accompanist’s schedule as well as your
own.
 Each audition will last approximately six minutes.
 A schedule of audition appointments will be posted in
rehearsal by Monday, December 15, if possible. Final
details and schedule will be sent to the applicant prior
to the competition.
 On the day of the competition, applicant is expected to
be in the assigned warm-up room and ready to
perform at least 15 minutes prior to assigned
performance time.
 Assigned times are approximate--please be prepared
to wait or perform early, if necessary.
 Note to accompanists: All MYSO ensembles’
competitions will occur simultaneously on this day. We
will endeavor to schedule you in one block of time to
make your day easier (unless you request otherwise).
