Carolyn Wynn, Director
Edward A. Bettencourt, Jr., Mayor
A New Years Note from our Director Carolyn Wynn……
It’s hard to believe that we are just about to ring in the New Year 2015! During this time of the year, I always
take time to reflect back and think about our accomplishments as well as things that we could have done better. We have
seen a lot of changes in 2014. First, I would like to formally welcome Officer Rick Cameron to our Center. He now has an
office here and works closely with our staff. The support we received from Mayor Bettencourt and the City of Peabody is
truly appreciated. Just as our Adult Day Health Program is unique to Senior Centers, so is the placing of Officer Cameron
at ours. Many communities have police officers in the schools, but I do not currently know of another officer that is
stationed in any other Senior Center. In the short time that he has been with us, Officer Cameron has not only assisted
several Seniors with their issues and concerns, but he also has worked closely with our TRIAD program. Please stop in the
office and welcome him!
Another big change we have made is to become an independent lunch site. This has given us the opportunity to host
even more special events and has enabled us to offer a larger selection of menu items. We plan to offer a “meals to go”
program soon, especially for those participants who may want another meal for later that evening. As many of you already
know we are open late on Thursday evenings and in the spring, plan to start some evening events!
I would love to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful staff and over three hundred (300) dedicated volunteers for
the work they do on a daily basis to make The Peabody Council on Aging Senior Center such a wonderful place to visit.
We would like to encourage our members to drop us a note in the suggestion box or speak to a staff member with any ideas
you may have for classes and other activities. This is your Center and we are here to help make it an even more enjoyable
experience for you.
I would like to express a special note of thanks to staff members, Sandra Cloutman, Cathie Tassinari, John Tetrault,
Ken Webster, Donna DiGiovanni, Nancy Arsenault, Fred Kasprzyk, Paul Coughlin, Arthur Kent, Michael Callahan,
Washington Neves, Gilberto DaSilva and volunteers Mary Coan and Wendy Joly, for preparing and delivering
a delicious Thanksgiving meal to one hundred fifty (150) home delivered meal clients.
I would like to wish everyone a very Happy and Healthy New Year! As always, I look forward to seeing
you at our Senior Center.
Warmest Regards, Carolyn

Prescription Advantage: THE DONUT HOLE!
Did YOU reach the “donut hole” last year? If so...chances are you could reach it again!
If you have a Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage Plan and do not get Extra Help, you will
reach that coverage gap when the total retail cost of your prescription drugs reaches $2960.
Then you will pay 45% of the cost of brand name drugs and 65% for generics. Think what that means….a
$300 brand name drug will now cost you $135. This where Prescription Advantage can help.
Prescription Advantage, the Massachusetts Prescription Drug Assistance Program,
can help pay for your prescription drugs when you reach the “Donut Hole.”
To find out how to lower your drug costs, call Prescription Advantage at 1-800-243-4636 or

PEABODY COUNCIL ON AGING
CATHERINE (KAY) MORROCCO SECRETARY OF FRIENDS AND
TRIAD REPORTS: JANUARY 2015
Many Good Wishes For a Happy and Healthy New Year To All
At the December meeting of the Friends Board of Directors, all the Officers
agreed to serve for an additional Term and all is ’status quo’ for two more years.
Joan Johnson was welcomed as a new member on the Board of Directors. Joan
is a familiar person at the Council on Aging, she recently retired as the
Administrative Assistant to Director Carolyn Wynn and she now volunteers her
services at the Senior Center. Welcome Aboard Joan!
The Meals on Wheels Program does not deliver a meal on Thanksgiving Day.
Director Carolyn Wynn and her staff decided to prepare a meal for this holiday for
one hundred fifty (150) home-bound Seniors who would be alone. The drivers
who deliver the daily meals, volunteered to deliver them on Thanksgiving Day.
Director Carolyn requested the funds needed to prepare this meal and the Friends
Board of Directors unanimously approved the request for the funds required to
accomplish this good and wonderful deed.
Kudos and May God Bless all who gave so willingly of their time and efforts to
make this a special Thanksgiving Day for so many Seniors. Sincere
appreciation is also extended to all the people who responded to the Annual
Appeal for Funds, your donation and your support of the‘Purpose’ of the
‘Friends’ helped to make this Thanksgiving Day very special for one hundred fifty
(150) Seniors.
The request for funds for the following were also approved unanimously:
1. A Scroll Saw and a Slide for the Table Saw-for Seniors who use the
Wood Shop.
2. A Pop Corn Machine-for a Pop Corn treat for Seniors to enjoy at the
Movies and other recreational activities.
3. Bridge Size Tables-for recreational activities and/or the Classes so many
Seniors enjoy in the Senior Center.
4. Two large Monitors-to be used by the Forever Young Singers or the
Chorus group for entertaining Seniors.
A new year has begun and another Annual Appeal for Funds Packet will soon
be in the mail. In the above paragraphs you have read how the funds received do
help the Council of Aging Director and her Staff improve the quality of Life for
Senior People who seek services and recreational activities at the Peter A.
Torigian Senior Center. Please renew your membership as a ‘Friend’ and /or please
become a ‘Friend’ and support our ‘PURPOSE’.
FYI: Did you know the Peabody Police Chief Tom Griffin has assigned Officer
Rick Cameron as the Elder Affairs Officer to the Council on Aging. He has been
assigned a special room in the Senior Center where he can meet privately with a
Senior who may have a concern or problem. Rick will address any type of issue
that may require a Police Opinion or resolution. Rick also meets and works with
the Triad group. He is a very nice and calm young man who easily relates to
Seniors. Rick will be happy to meet all our Seniors, even those without a concern
or problem. When you see Rick around the Senior Center, Smile, Introduce
yourself, it will make him feel welcomed!
For the “Young at Heart” Seniors, a poem by Helen Steiner Rice
that may inspire us as we start a New Year.
“Each Day Brings A Chance To Do Better”
How often we wish for another chance to make a fresh beginning, a chance to blot out our
mistakes and change Failure into winning. It does not take a special time to make a brand
new start, it only takes the deep desire to try with all your heart to live a little
better and to always be forgiving and to add a little “sunshine” in the world in which
we ‘re living. So never give up in despair and think that you are through, for there’s
always a tomorrow and a chance to start anew.
