Applications are invited for the following purely on temporary positions in the Natural
Resources Data Management System (NRDMS), Department of Science and Technology, Government of
India funded project entitled “An Assessment of Soil Erosion and remedial measures in parts of Upper
Vaigai River basin of Tamil Nadu State using Remote Sensing and GIS” to work under the guidance of
Dr.R.Rajkumar, Principal Investigator, Department of Futures Studies, School of Earth and Atmospheric
Sciences, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai-625 021.
1. Junior Research Fellow: 1 No.
i.
Essential Qualifications for JRF: 1. M.Sc., in Geology/Geography/ ERAC/Rural Development with
knowledge and practical experience in GIS and Remote sensing having 60% marks or
equivalent grade. Candidates having qualified and a valid NET or GATE with at least one year
of research experience using GIS and Remote Sensing. Above stated experience during
M.Sc., dissertation also would also be considered.
ii. Emoluments: Rs.12, 000/- pm for 1st & 2nd years and Rs.14, 000/-pm for 3rd year.
iii. Desirable Qualification(s): Preferences will be given to candidate who will be a good knowledge
in GIS &RS software applications, well experience in using Total Station. DGPS and GPS.
Candidate should travel to field extensively.
The staff will be selected as per the norms.
Candidates with strong aptitude for research will be encouraged to register for Ph.D. degree
2. Field Assistant: 1 No.
i.
Minimum Qualification: M.Sc., in Rural Development/Geography/Geology/Earth
Science/ERAC/ Development Studies with 55% marks
ii.
Emoluments: Rs.8000/- pm consolidated
iii.
Desirable: Preference will be given to candidate who will be experienced in using GIS
software, GPS, total station, two/four wheeler driving and willing to travel to study
area.

Note:
1. The appointed person shall have no claim of appointment / absorption in Funding Agency or in
Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai.
2. Appointment of the applicant will be governed by the terms and conditions of the funding
agency particularly applicable to the said project.
3. The qualification prescribed should have been obtained from recognized Universities /
Institutions.

“Application for Junior Research Fellow/ Field Assistant” so as to reach on or before
27-01-2015 at 5 00 pm.
5. The prescribed essential qualifications are minimum and mere possession of the same does not
entitle candidates to be called for interview.
6. An entrance test may be conducted for the candidates of Junior Research Fellows before
interview.
7. Incomplete applications or applications received after prescribed time limit shall not be
entertained.
8.
No TA/DA will be admissible for attending the Interview.
9.
