Hook: Kamasan B175, size 14 Thread: Pearsall’s Gold
Dubbing: Natural mole Hackle: Waterhen

his is a very simple fly that
has accounted for so many
trout and grayling over the
years, and will no doubt continue
to do so for years to come!
Place the hook in the vice and,
using touching turns, create a bed
of thread, stopping just behind the
hook point.

Strip one side of the waterhen
hackle and catch in behind the eye
by the tips.

Now take a small amount of the
mole fur and create a thin and
wispy dubbing rope.

Wind the hackle around the shank
twice and secure with tying thread.
Whip finish and trim.

Wind up the body in touching turns,
stopping a little behind the eye.

Add a drop of varnish, making sure
none goes on the feather. If any
gets in the eye pull a hackle stalk
through to clean.
