On a Journey of Faith
The Baptism of the Lord 11th January 2015 Year B
FOOD AND DRINK FOR THE JOURNEY
As
we reflect on the Baptism of the Lord, we are
reminded once again of Jesus’ humility. In asking
John to baptise him, Jesus is making a clear
statement about the meaning of greatness, and the
respect he has for the ministry of others. His own
humility gave people the confidence to approach Him.
His respect gave people a feeling of worth that
enabled them to believe they could change. Meeting
Jesus people learnt that God really loved and valued
them. The Lord is always ready to renew us with His
Spirit and to help us in our mission. Through our own
Baptism we can be effective instruments of peace –
radiating the Joy of the Gospel. May his love and
truth shine through us, so that others may see the
goodness of God. Praise Him!

Walking with Pope Francis
‘If we succeed in expressing
adequately and with beauty the
essential content of the Gospel, surely
this message will speak to the deepest
yearnings of people’s hearts………..we
have a treasure of life and love which
cannot deceive, and a message which
cannot mislead or disappoint……..it is a
truth which is never out of date because
it reaches that part of us which nothing
else can reach’ (from his letter to us ‘the Joy of
the Gospel’)

As we finish this wonderful season today with the
feast of the Baptism of the Lord we praise the Lord for
all the blessings He’s showered down upon us and all
those we’ve lifted up to Him in prayer. We now enter
Ordinary time in the Church’s Liturgical Year until

VOCATION DISCERNMENT GROUP
To support those exploring Vocations to the
Priesthood in our diocese, a monthly day of
recollection has been organised for the first
Saturday of each month. These days will help men
who feel called to ordained ministry to discover
more about diocesan priesthood and meet others
discerning a call to priesthood. There will be an opportunity
to talk with and hear from priests who minister in the
diocese, and also a time for prayer and discussion. The first
day of recollection will take place on Saturday 7th
February at St. Charles’ Presbytery, 224 Aigburth Road,
Liverpool.

New Year’s Prayer
May God make your year a happy one.
Not by shielding you from all sorrows and pain,
But by strengthening you to bear it, as it comes;
Not by making your path easy,
But by making you sturdy to travel any path;
Not by taking hardships from you,
But by taking fear from your heart;
Not by granting you unbroken sunshine,
But by keeping your face bright, even in the shadows;
Not by making your life always pleasant,
But by showing you when people and their causes need you most,
and by making you desire to be there to help.
May God’s love, peace, hope and joy fill your year ahead
