EXELAND ASSOCIATION NEWS
It was a record setting event! Over 250 people walked through the Trail of Terror that was held on the Sports Center grounds
on Oct. 17 & 18. 167 brave people went through the trail on Saturday night which is a single night record for the event. The two
nights also raised $650 for the Association which is also a high mark. On a sad note, chair person Janet Gerber announced, “This
was our last year of holding the event. All of our spooks got old on us and the Association realizes it would just be to hard to
continue without all of the helpers we’ve had the past several years. We do want to thank everyone who helped or attended the
Trail of Terror over these years. It was always a lot of fun.”
Thanks to all of the workers & spooks that helped make this year’s Trail so successful: Kelsie, Conner & Sue Kopras; Sherry
Samardzich; Karissa Stewart; Ron, Jackie & Mackenzie Thompson; Jim & Janet Gerber; Shannon Gerber; Sandy
Dantzman; Lacey Martin; Kyle Suzan; Chance Brown; Nikki Tomasovich; Summer Dillivan; Caleb Johnson; Kourtney
Fischer; Josie Meyer; Joseph Straham; Damon Stengel; Dan Fisher; Ron Kryscynski; Aca Shramek.
Reminder Notice: All $20 membership fees are now due. If you are a current member of the Association or would like to become
one you can send $20 with your address to: Janet Gerber – PO Box 35, Exeland, WI 54835.
Ads for the Exeland Newsletter are also due now. The cost is $40 for four ads. To renew your ad or to purchase a new one, please
submit payment and your business info to: Janet Gerber – PO Box 35, Exeland, WI 54835.
In other news the Association is in the process of acquiring the former insurance building on Main Street located between the
bank and the café. Association President Jim Gerber commented, “The building will be a good addition to our organization. We
will use it as our meeting place and to store our belongings. We plan on doing some restoration to the building and put many
history items on the walls. We might also rent it out for events like rummage sales, wedding showers and other events.”
At the December meeting the election of officers for 2015 – 2017 was held. Elected to the following positions were: Jim Gerber
(President); Vice President – Ellyn Welling; Secretary – Sandy Dantzman; Treasurer – Janet Gerber; Trustees – Mike Waite
& Robert Deach.
The Exeland Area Association would like to wish everyone in the Exeland community a Happy New Year. They would also like
to thank all of the members who worked hard to make this another tremendous year for the organization and also send out a big
“THANK YOU” to all of the people who buy ads to make the newsletter possible! Good people make for a good community!

The Exeland community would like to extend
their condolences to all the families
on the recent passing of:
It was fun to see a story about Katie Robers in the “Yesteryears” of the
Sawyer County Gazette. It was 25 years ago (1989) that Katie, won the cross
country Class C state championship. It’s still one of the best moments in
Winter High School sports history.

MURRY HOME MAKERS NEWS
The Murry Home Makers held their annual bake, raffle and rummage sale
during the 2014 Trout Fest. The proceeds from the sales helped to support the
Meteor, Bruce & Winter Food Pantries, the Exeland & Bruce First
Responders, Woman for Courage and the Rusk County Animal Shelter.
If you meet any of these people around town make sure you
say “thank you”. They sacrifice a lot of their time to help
protect our community. The Exeland community is really
proud of our fire department and the people who serve in it.

THANK YOU…
Harold & Betty Brown for the generous
donation of money to be used for the Sonny
Shimko Memorial at Swan Creek Park. The
money will be used to purchase a new flag when
the current one wears out.
The Exeland United Methodist Church would
like to thank everyone who attended the Cookie
& Candy Walk held at the church on Saturday,
December 13. Also, a thank you to everyone
who made all of the wonderful treats and
worked in any way to make the event a success.
Mahala Earnhart for the nice donation of
necklaces she crafted and gave to the Exeland
Area Association. So far nearly $250 worth
necklaces have been sold with all of the money
going to the Association.
Exeland American Legion & Auxiliary for
supplying the bags of candy at the Santa shop.
CONGRATULATIONS…
Betty Bartlett who celebrated her 95th birthday
in November with family and friends at the
Methodist Church. Happy birthday Betty and
hoping for many more to come!
Bill Milner on his retirement from the post
office after serving the Exeland area for 30
years. His last delivery was made on October
31. A large party to celebrate his retirement was
held in November at the Buckhorn Bar. Thank
you Bill for the many years of dedication to the
Exeland community! Enjoy being lazy!!
Exeland's new mail route carrier is Paula
Ladenthin, she is replacing retiring Bill Milner.
Congratulations on your new job placement
Paula!
Bimbo Gifford was at Lambeau Field on
November 9 to attend the Bears vs. Packers
game. Upon seeing what great shape Bimbo is
now in, Packers General Manager Ted
Thompson tried signing him to a football
contract. However, Bimbo turned the contract
down because the only position he can play is
quarterback and he figures Aaron Rodgers
would be hard to beat out for the job.
Kourtney Fischer (daughter of Korey Fischer
& Julie Thompson) on being selected the
November “Student of the Month” at Winter
High School! Also, if you attended the
Winter/Bruce high school basketball games you
would have been treated to Kourtney singing
the “Star Spangled Banner”. Nobody could’ve
done it better, just outstanding!
To sisters Hailie & Alex Granica (daughters of
Tom & Brenda Granica). Both of the girls shot
nice whitetail bucks on their very first youth
hunt! Good Job!!! You two did better then 90%
of the guys did in the 9-day rifle season!

showed up at the Weirgor Town Hall to do their
Christmas shopping. A big thank you to all of
Santa’s helpers and to Santa (Bill Haymes) and
Mrs. Santa (Shirley Bodner).
A special elf helped make the Exeland Santa

The Club held their elections of officers at the December meeting. The officers for 2015-2017
are: President Al Gerber; Vice President – Mike Paul; Secretary – Robert Deach; Treasurer – Dean
Johnson.
In November the Club held their annual Hunter’s Ball for members only at the clubhouse.
Winning guns at the festive event were: Al Suzan (Ojibwa); Curt Gerber (Hayward); Jim Leader
(Exeland); Chance Brown (Exeland); Denny Kopras (Exeland); John Gordon (Exeland); Al
Gordon (Radisson); Brody Fischer (Exeland) & Daryl Kinnear (Ladysmith).
Winner of the Club’s Big Buck Contest for rifle this year goes to Al Gerber who shot a big 8pointer with a 21” inside spread. A dandy buck, Al. Good job!!
The Club spent some more money in the community when they re-graveled the road that goes
around the campsites at Swan Creek Park. The community thanks the Club for helping keep our
park as one of the best around!
Currently, the Club is working with the DNR in setting the quotas for the 2015 deer hunts. The
DNR listened last year so hopefully they will again this year.
The Club had a very stressful December meeting. Denny Kopras, club bartender, didn’t show up
for the meeting and there was no beer in the refrigerator. This no doubt was the worst disaster the
Club faced all year long. 5 members have been assigned to beat Denny up for his terrible mistake.
ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS: 2015 memberships are now due. Cost is still $20. You can
submit payment to: Exeland Rod & Gun Club – PO Box 92, Exeland, WI 54835 or pay at the next
meeting. We’re always looking for new members! If you want to join you can submit the $20 to
the address listed above or contact any club member.
