Change the Me to We
As parents we provide stimulation
to develop bright children. We study
child development books. We teach
children basic math skills. Reciting
of the alphabet, forming words and
reading become a prime focus.
Planned outings are educational and
inspirational, with the ultimate goal
of creating successful children who
will excel in the world
One day, you are requested to meet
with a counsellor/teacher because
your child has been achieving low
grades. You discover that he/she
may have an identified learning
challenge. Or, perhaps there have
been behaviour issues which are
affecting marks. You ask yourself,
“How could this have happened?
We did everything possible to
make sure that our child was well
equipped for school with all of the
basic fundamentals and exposure.
We never thought that there would
be any issues!” This is where the
“We” factor of a strong parent/
child relationship breaks down and
becomes the “Me” factor.
You internalize all of the comments
as: “I have failed somewhere.
Something I have done has brought
us to this place.” You blame yourself
for the difficulty your child is now
facing. The focus is no longer “We.”
It is “Me” and the “W” has become
an “M”. Parents must learn to accept
and instead of doubt themselves,
immediately become proactive and
develop a plan of action for their
child which is right, and let the
“We” kick back in again. Deal with
this together. Your child is already
feeling inadequate. Don’t indicate
disappointment. You have been “We”
since the beginning. Never forget that!
Discover ways to help: Secure extra
help/special programmes at school,
communicate with teachers, provide
concentrated support at home,
educate yourself on the challenge,
know that outside support/resources
are available, talk to others who have
experienced this, and hire a tutor for
one on one needs and confidence
building. Too many parents think of
the learning challenge as a disability.
It is a learning challenge and life
is full of challenges. Don’t ever let
your child hear you say that he has a
disability. Hearing is believing!
As parents who have shown support
since day one, he/she needs you
more than ever now. Change the
new “Me” back to old “We” and your
child will grow, excel and thank you
for it.

Bazowsky’s tenacious Willow tree takes first place
Roots of My Community Photo Contest
winner announced
OSHAWA – The City of Oshawa
is pleased to announce Linda
Bazowsky as the winner of the yearlong Roots of My Community Photo
contest.
Bazowsky’s winning entry featured
a Lakeview Park landmark she’s
aptly named ‘Willow’. The tree is
the last of several weeping willow
trees that once dotted the Oshawa
lakefront. “I grew up at the lake,
and like Willow, my roots are firmly
planted in the sand,” said Bazowsky.
She continued: “Willow survived
the December 2013 ice storm, but
sadly one heavily ice-laden branch
succumbed to Mother Nature.”
Bazowsky’s winning entry features
Willow, broken but not beaten last
winter.
Bazowsky will be awarded a
$300.00 gift certificate to Kobes
Nurseries to use towards the
purchase of a tree or shrub for her
yard.
Page 4
The contest also awarded second
and third place to photos submitted
by Todd Murrison and Joanne
Crew, respectively. Murrison’s photo
featured a seasonal time-lapse of a
tree in Oshawa’s Valleyview Gardens
where he and his late father would
sit and chat for hours. Crew stayed
closer to home with her submission,
selecting the Eastern Redbud in her
front yard as her focus. The tree,
which she planted in 2005, reminds
her of her mother, and provides her
and her family great joy and privacy.
As the second place recipient,
Murrison will receive a $200.00
gift certificate to Henry’s Oshawa
towards the purchase of photography
equipment and/or accessories. Third
place Crew will receive a gift basket
that includes gift cards for two adults
for Treetop Eco-Adventure Park in
Oshawa, two gloves, t-shirts and
water bottles, valued at $165.00.
“Congratulations to the winners
of the Roots of My Community
photo contest and many thanks
to all who submitted photos,” said
Councillor Bob Chapman, Chair of
the Community Services Committee.
“It is nice to know that even with the
damage done this last year by the
ice storm and the Emerald Ash Borer
that we still have many beautiful
trees throughout our City.”
The public is welcomed to view the

Toronto Zoo opens one of Canada’s largest indoor giraffe
viewing houses
Toronto, Ontario – The Toronto
Zoo is very excited to announce
the opening of one of the largest
indoor giraffe houses in Canada to
the public. The new habitat is 173
square metres and the giraffes can
be viewed inside where visitors will
get a unique opportunity to get up
close to this magnificent species.
The new giraffe house is currently
home to the Zoo’s 24 year-old Masai
giraffe ‘Twiga’ and her one year old
female calf ‘Mstari’ and is open year
round.
“It is estimated that there are fewer
giraffes in Africa than hippos and
they are facing ongoing threats in
the wild. The Toronto Zoo is proud
to be participating in the Masai
Giraffe Species Survival Plan (SSP)
and conservation efforts to spread
awareness of the plight of these
incredible animals”, said Maria
Franke, Curator of Mammals. There
are nine subspecies of giraffes with
two recently listed as endangered
and the others listed as least concern/
conservation dependent by the
International Union for Conservation
and Nature (IUCN). However, with
the overall 40% decline observed
in the wild giraffe population over
the past 15 years due to habitat
destruction and poaching, risk of
higher classifications is likely/
imminent.
The new indoor viewing house
has a beautiful African Savanna
landscape mural with several new
features that help the keepers
care for the giraffes. This includes
different feeding stations which
allow keepers numerous feeding
enrichment opportunities for the
tallest land mammal on earth, a
fallen log enrichment devise that
encourages the giraffes to use their
long, dark tongue to manipulate
and pull out food items, and hidden
raised waterers.
In addition, the new indoor house
includes a variety of graphics and an
interpretive area to provide visitors
with educational and interactive
information about this incredible
species. A life size custom illustration
of a giraffe head and neck greets you
in the front entrance vestibule, which
includes life-like giraffe vertebrae
visitors can touch and feel. Members
of the public will also be exposed to
wall-sized interactive illustrations of
all nine giraffes subspecies, where
they can compare their patterns and
where they live in Africa.
The Toronto Zoo’s new outdoor
Masai Giraffe Habitat opened to the
public in July 2014 which includes
three outdoor exhibits and a yard
covering over 4,370 square metres.
Although the exhibit will initially be
home to the Zoo’s giraffes, there are
future plans to add other species
that inhabit the African grassland
savanna, one of the most delicate
natural ecosystems on this planet.
The Toronto Zoo is Canada’s
premier zoo and a leader in animal
preservation and environmental
protection. More than a tourist
attraction, the Toronto Zoo boasts
a number of leading programs for
helping wildlife and their natural
habitats – from species reintroduction
to reproductive research. A worldclass educational centre for people
of all ages, the Toronto Zoo is open
every day except December 25 and
attracts approximately 1.3 million
visitors each year.
other obvious reminders. Consider
cleaning your home – remember
that even the smell can remind you
of smoking.
3. Get some help. Support can go a
long way to helping you succeed.
Talk to your friends and family about
what you’re doing or consider joining
a support group.
4. Reward yourself. Quitting isn’t easy
and it’s important to reward yourself
when reaching key milestones.
Consider treating yourself with a
night out at your favourite restaurant
or an activity you’ve always wanted
to try.
5. Recover from a relapse. Quitting
smoking can often be an ongoing
process, so if you slip up, start
again. This is particularly important
for people living with respiratory
illnesses, like COPD, since quitting
smoking can help alleviate symptoms
and may slow down the progression
of the disease.
Don’t get left out in the cold
(NC) Whether it’s the sprint from the
car or the jog from the front door,
many of us do our best to avoid
the outdoors as the temperatures
plummet. But, regardless of how
frigid it gets, there is one lonely
group that is often huddled outside–
smokers. While battling the elements
may be reason enough for some
smokers to quit, it is the serious
health consequences that often
provide real motivation to kick the
habit.
Prolonged smoking can cause lung
cancer, heart attacks and commonly
leads to chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease (COPD). COPD,
which includes emphysema and
chronic bronchitis, causes symptoms
like shortness of breath, wheezing
Vol. 7 Iss. 01 – January 2015
and coughing up phlegm. If you
are suffering from these symptoms,
be sure to speak to your physician
about a COPD assessment and
finding the right treatment options
for you. If you are currently a smoker,
one of the best things you can do
for your health is taking steps to
stop. Quitting is possible with the
right combination of planning and
persistence. Here are five tips that
can help you achieve success:
1. Focus on your goal. Write down
a short list of reasons why you’re
quitting. Be proud of your decision
to quit and stay positive through this
process.
2. Remove reminders. Dispose of your
remaining cigarettes, ashtrays and

(NC) It’s not just your imagination.
Staying slim in the winter truly is
more difficult.
Winter signals a change in our
bodies’ chemistry: one for the
worse when it comes to weightmanagement. Blame shorter days.
We need sunlight to produce
serotonin, a ‘feel-good’ hormone
that also regulates appetite.
When enough serotonin is coursing
through the brain, we feel satiated
sooner, and it’s easier to resist comfort
foods like the simple carbohydrates
that give us a temporary lift. As every
dieter knows, sugar is a fleeting fix.
It leaves us depleted and hungry, on
the prowl for more calories.
But never fear, there are ways to
boost your serotonin and manage
winter weight-gain. Try these simple
tips:
1. Take a winter walk: Take every
opportunity on clear days to get
out in natural light. A brisk walk
may be just what you need to boost
serotonin and resist the siren call of
sweets.
2. Increase your vitamin intake:
Supplementing your diet can impact

23
hormone health. Magnesium aids
in the conversion of the amino acid
tryptophan into serotonin, regulating
appetite and exerting a powerful
influence on our mood. Canadian
actor Sitara Hewitt says that using
a magnesium supplement called
Natural Calm magnesium has helped
in her own resolution to kick sugar.
This thirty-something mother and
natural health advocate explains:
“My energy is much more level now.
I don’t feel drained, and so I’m not
driven by the sugar impulse. It feels
great.”
3. Explore alternatives: Who among
us doesn’t get a little more domestic
when the weather is forbidding?
Convert your guilty-pleasure recipes
by experimenting with coconut
sugar, organic maple syrup and
stevia to sweeten. Sugar not only
adds empty calories, it depletes our
magnesium stores, triggering the
vicious craving cycle.
A combination of natural light
therapy and nutrition may be all
you need to your balance hormones
and keep your weight in-check this
winter.

3 clever steps to a much
warmer winter
(NC) Layer upon layer of bulky
winter gear helps Canadians to ward
off the season’s bite for a time, but
there are other ways to keep the
persistent cold at bay for the long
term. The Canadian Health Food
Association (CHFA) recommends a
winter regime of exercise, a hearty
and healthy diet, and natural health
support to keep you warm, even
through the worst of the season.
Exercise
Regular exercise gets the blood
pumping and blood vessels dilating,
helping to distribute warmth to
our extremities. A good workout
also burns calories, a process that
produces lasting heat, so keep
moving. The rush of endorphins
we get from exercising is another
important benefit, especially in
winter, because they help to balance
our mood and combat the “winter
blues”, or seasonal affective disorder
(SAD). If the gym is not your thing,
try Ashtanga yoga, an activity that
teaches special breathing techniques
to promote internal body heat, as
well as mindfulness to combat stress.
Hearty Diet
What we eat and drink has a
lasting effect on our ability to keep
warm. In particular, spicy foods
help to raise our metabolism, which
allows our bodies to produce heat
faster. Try using ginger, cayenne
pepper, and more garlic when you
prepare hearty meals, as well as
other nutrient-rich ingredients like
tomatoes, leafy greens, and beans.
In addition, water is great at retaining
heat, so drinking eight to 10 cups of
water a day, will keep you hydrated
and warm. Drinking herbal teas or
infusing your water with seasonal
fruits adds nutritional benefits and
flavour.
Natural Health Support
Despite our best efforts, it is rare
that we are able to get all the nutrients
we need from our food alone.
Supplementation is a convenient
way to fill those nutritional gaps,
especially in winter. To start, make
sure you get the recommended daily
dose of all B vitamins, which helps
to increase blood flow and maintain
our body’s internal temperature. A
vitamin D supplement, essential for
disease prevention and many of the
body’s vital functions, is universally
recommended for Canadians during
the winter months. And, adding a
quality omega-3 supplement to
your regime not only contributes to
heart health, but it has also been
associated with reducing the risk of
a number of chronic diseases, and
helps to keep skin moisturized from
the inside out through the cold, dry
winter.
It is always a good idea to consult
your healthcare provider for
more personalized health advice,
including the specific supplements
and dosages that are right for you.

mood, suggested by the Canadian
Health Food Association (CHFA):
Organic Cacao
Conventional wisdom suggests
that cacao is a natural aphrodisiac,
although there is little evidence to
confirm this. The link between libido
and cacao may be slightly more
indirect. Cacao has been shown to
produce a chemical in the brain
called phenylethylamine (PEA). It
releases both feel-good and energy
boosting hormones, including
dopamine and norepinephrine,
which in turn can lead to a heightened
sense of wellbeing and arousal. With
its incredibly high antioxidant count,
organic cacao is also packed with
vital nutrients like magnesium and
iron, and offers a number of health
benefits including energy support.
To spark up the romance with your
partner, try adding cacao into your
smoothies or baked goods in its pure

form, or opt for a delicious organic
dark chocolate.
Maca Root
This superfood has been consumed
for centuries in the Andes. Perhaps
it's because maca promotes vitality,
increases strength and energy and
contributes to a general feeling of
wellbeing. To increase your stamina
and feel great both in and out of
the bedroom, add maca powder to
green smoothies. Its nutty flavour is
also a great complement to oats and
granola. You can find this superfood
in your favourite health food store.
Garlic
Garlic contains a natural stimulator
called allicin, which increases blood
flow, heightening arousal. This
powerful herb is also an excellent
immune system and cardiovascular
health booster, which will help you
feel invigorated during the cold
days. Avoid the strong taste and
not-so-sexy smell of garlic on your
breath by opting for an odourless
supplement in pill form.

5 Practical Tips For Refreshing Your Closet
(NC) Organizing the jungle that
is your closet is an excellent way
to harmonize your thoughts and
streamline your morning routine.
Plus, it’s a well-known fact that wellarranged closets equal better outfits.
Canadian style expert Janette Ewen
offers these steps to achieve closet
calm:
1. Host a closet intervention: Cleanse
yourself and your closet by inviting a
trusted (and stylish!) friend over and
sorting your closet together. Begin
with the items you adore but don’t
wear regularly. Imagine new ways
to wear them and determine if they
can be tailored. “If you figure out an
inventive way to revisit old favourites,
take a picture and store it in a fashion
file on your smartphone. That way,
during frantic ‘I-have-nothing-towear!’ mornings, you have it as a
reference,” recommends Ewen.
2. Implement a system: Organize the
remaining items by clothing type
(blouses, jeans, trousers, etc). At the
front of the closet, group a few readymade outfits for dressing on the run
(these should include accessories
like complementary bags and shoes).
Refresh these looks every couple of
weeks.
Page 10
For Advertising Information please call: 905.420.4123 or 416.779.2523
3. Gather the essentials: Finally, the
fun part: shopping. Revitalize your
entire look by focusing on key items
you need to jazz up old standbys.
Make a list, investigate your options
online, and start a style board using
Pinterest. Need suggestions for
essential winter wear? “A stunning
statement coat in a wear-everywhere
neutral and an impeccably tailored
pencil skirt can do no wrong,” says
Ewen.
4. Invest in statement jewelry:
Adding a gorgeous necklace, an eyecatching bracelet or a statement ring
to your roster will make every outfit
feel new again. “Pandora’s new Rose
collection, featuring rings, earrings,
bangles and charms in warm pink
metallics, flatters every skin tone
and outfit,” says Ewen. “Or, stack
sterling silver and 14K gold rings for
an on-trend mixed metals look.” Visit
www.pandora.net for even more
style inspiration.
5. Add a pop of colour: In the chill
of winter, greys and blacks take over
our wardrobes. Turn this logic on
its head by injecting rich auburn
and sumptuous cobalt blue to key
pieces, like cashmere pullovers and
silk button-downs.

Buying a New Home: The importance of getting your lawyer
involved at the outset
Believe it or not, it is common
practice for home buyers to sign an
Agreement of Purchase and Sale
and after the fact, provide it to their
lawyer for review. Some don't even
go through this process, thinking
that since the contracts are 'similar'
for all those buying from the same
builder, then it must somehow be
'okay'.
Just as you would include a
condition for obtaining financing,
ensure to include a lawyer's review
condition with a specific date. Most
importantly, take the agreement to
your lawyer for review as soon as
possible.
These agreements are
lengthy and you should give your
lawyer adequate time to review the
agreement. Do not wait until the
last day of the conditional period to
contact your lawyer.
Make sure to actually read the
agreement. It is vital that you as the
purchaser familiarize yourself with
what's in the agreement. As much
as your lawyer is knowledgeable
about the law, they were simply not
present when you were discussing
Vol. 7 Iss. 01 – January 2015
the purchase with a sales agent. You
might be under the assumption that
certain items, extras or arrangements
have been spelt out in the agreement,
while they were simply omitted.
Almost all contracts have a clause
stating that what is not included in
the agreement - in writing - is not
part of the agreement. For example,
you might have been promised a
paved driveway with costs included
in the purchase price or you might
have been offered a certain bonus
package for purchasing a particular
house, but if these are not included
in writing in the agreement, you
should not expect to receive them.
Don't be afraid to negotiate the
adjustments. You would be asked
to reimburse the builder for a variety
of costs which can include anything
from tree planting costs to amounts
paid to set up utility accounts.
These items add up quickly. We
recommend that you ask that these
costs be capped at a reasonable
amount to prevent 'surprise costs' at
closing. By taking these steps, you
will be in a better position to budget
for the entire transaction.

How to leave a legacy of real value
(NC) Among all the plans we
envision for the New Year, why not
resolve to make a real difference
in 2015 for people in need? It is
possible to make a major impact on
generations to come by deciding
on a legacy now. Simply choose a
cause that you’re passionate about
and then take the steps to make it
happen.
“Every year, more than 100,000
children come to our hospital with
hopes that we can solve their health
issues with life-saving care,’’ says
Ted Garrard, President and CEO
of SickKids Foundation. ‘’All gifts
to SickKids help these children
immediately and also help the
generations to come.’’
If creating a legacy this year sounds
like the right idea, your gift can
originate in a number of ways, such
as these:
A Gift in Your Will: This allows you to
make a larger donation than would
be possible during your lifetime. By
naming a charity as a beneficiary in
your will, you can give a percentage
of your estate, a sum of money, a gift
of property, or a gift of securities.
Your estate receives a tax receipt
for the value of the gift, which may
reduce taxes payable on your estate.
Gifts of Securities: By donating
appreciated stocks, mutual funds,
stock options or flow-through shares,
you pay no tax on the capital gains,
receive a tax receipt for the fair
market value of the securities and
reduce your taxes. It gives you a costeffective opportunity to transform a
past investment into immediate and
significant support.
Gifts of Life Insurance: This type
of gift allows you to make a large
donation at a relatively low cost. You
can simply designate the charity of
your choice as a beneficiary. Or you
may designate your charity of choice
as owner and beneficiary of a new or
existing policy to claim each future
premium paid as a tax deductible
donation, or give the charity a paidup life insurance policy to receive
an immediate tax receipt for its fair
market value.
Gifts of RRSPs/RRIFs: Retirement
funds are one of the best ways to
grow wealth during your lifetime,
but one of the worst ways to transfer
wealth to the next generation, as
they are among your most heavily
taxed assets. By naming a charity
as a beneficiary of your registered
plans, you can make a gift which will
benefit your charity of choice and
other beneficiaries in your estate,
as the tax receipt will reduce taxes
owed on the estate.

Clever tips as you begin a new exercise routine
(NC) Exercise is a key component
in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. If
you are new to daily workouts, or
if you are just looking to ramp up
your existing routine, there are a few
things you might consider to achieve
success.
“Two of the most important first
steps are to set a realistic goal followed
by a plan to achieve that goal,” says
Stephanie Dupuis, National Director
of Personal Training with GoodLife
Fitness Clubs. “Being realistic will
help make a positive impact on your
overall health, but it also needs to
fit into your existing lifestyle. The
goal should be something you can
commit to.”
When getting started on a fitness
program, don’t overdo it. Tackle one
One of the best ways to get started,

professional.
Page 12
lifestyle change at a time. “If you
haven’t been involved in exercise,
your first lifestyle change can be as
simple as exercising two to three
times per week. Once you have been
exercising for a month incorporate
another change into your routine.
Your next lifestyle change can be
as simple as increasing the amount
of water you drink daily,” suggests
Dupuis. However, she stresses that
your changes should be gradual.
“Changing your health and fitness is
a lifelong journey and you have time
to make changes.”
Regardless of your exercise
experience, incorporating a warm
up into your routine is vital, Dupuis
says. “Your warm up and cool down
are important for safety. A warm up
doesn’t have to be long—it can be
five to ten minutes. That short warmup will increase blood flow to your
muscles and help reduce your risk of
injury.”
After your workout, a proper cool
down is equally important. Dupuis
recommends, “Gradually reduce
the intensity and speed of your
activity in preparation for stopping
your workout.” A proper cool down
allows your heart rate to return to
normal and can help prevent you
from feeling dizzy or fainting.
When you first begin working out
it’s not uncommon for your muscles to
ache a little bit—not severe or sharp
pain, but a small amount of tension.
Soreness comes from using muscles
that haven’t been used in a while. It’s
normal to feel some soreness 24 to
48 hours after exercising. It will go
away. To sooth sore muscles Dupuis
suggests that you keep moving the
day after you work out. Even going
for a walk can help. Remaining still
will cause soreness to set in.
Most importantly, remember
that everyone starts somewhere. If
you need help, don’t be afraid to
reach out to a professional. Dupuis
advises, “Work at your own level and
incorporate things you like into your
workout. Exercise should be fun.”

(NC) It seems that no matter how
many layers we put on our body
during the winter months, our skin
always feels the bitter bite of the cold.
When the temperature starts to drop,
the humidity level decreases as well,
leaving skin feeling parched. The
Canadian Health Food Association
(CHFA) has a few tips to keep your
skin hydrated and healthy during the
cold, dry winter months:
First, a hot shower certainly gives
us a break from the cold outside,
however it doesn't do any favours for
our skin. The hot water can actually
dry out the natural oils and the longer
you stay in the shower the more these
oils deplete. Make sure you shower
in lukewarm water and always use
naturally hydrating products that are
free of BHA and BHT, phthalates,
parabens, siloxanes, and sodium
laureth sulphate.
“We tend to only look for skin
products in drug stores and at
the cosmetic counter,” says CHFA
president, Helen Long. “But you can
also look in your pantry and in
health food stores to find excellent
natural moisturizers. Coconut oil,
for example, acts as an emollient,
providing a softening and soothing
effect. Another option is grapeseed
oil, which is an effective, lightweight
moisturizer and contains vitamins,
minerals, protein, GLA (an omega6 fatty acid that is found mostly in
plant-based oils), and vitamin E—all
nutrients your skin will benefit from.”
When we think of improving
the condition of our skin, various
creams, moisturizers, soaps and
cosmetics come to mind. But it's
worth remembering that beauty
truly does radiate from the inside
out. A nutritious diet which includes
healthy fats and colourful vitaminrich vegetables and fruits, is essential
to maintaining hydrated, healthy
skin.
Specifically, healthy fats, such as the
omega-3 fatty acids found in fish and
flaxseeds, can help skin maintain its
elasticity. Antioxidants like vitamin
A, which are found in yellow, orange
and red vegetables, are ideal for this
purpose. Furthermore, a vitamin A
deficiency can actually cause skin to
become dry and rough. It may seem
like common sense but it is true that
your skin's hydration is linked to your
body's hydration, so make sure you
are drinking eight to 10 glasses of
water a day.
More information on this topic,
which includes a list of health food
stores in your community, is easily

Boost Your Health With This
4-Step Plan
(NC) The signs and symptoms of
diabetes can range from unusual
thirst to blurred vision. Sometimes
people can mistake them for
something else, or miss them
altogether. Dawn Gallant, a nurse
in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and
Labrador, initially missed the signs
of the disease in both herself and
her daughter. “My first reaction was
disbelief. The same reaction I had
when my daughter was diagnosed,”
she says.
As one of more than nine million
Canadians living with diabetes or
prediabetes, Dawn supports the
Canadian Diabetes Association's
new Diabetes Charter for Canada.
In addition, the CDA encourages
Canadians to take charge of their
own health by putting together an
action plan. From reducing stress
to setting goals for physical activity,
detailed and well-designed action
plans are proven to help with overall
wellness.
Step 1: Determine your desired
change
The first step to changing your
health habits is understanding what
you want to change. Be specific and
realistic about your goals, including
a time limit for achieving it (within a
month, for example).
Step 2: Set out a specific action plan
From trying out a new recipe for
dinner to scheduling time for regular
exercise, write down specific steps
you'll take to reach your goals.
Step 3: Zero in on possible roadblocks
No change worth making comes
easily. Ask yourself what obstacles
could come in your way, and
determine a plan for overcoming
these challenges.
Step 4: Figure out what resources
you'll need
Proper support and tools are
essential. Visit www.diabetes.ca
for helpful tips, essential facts and
delicious recipes. You can also
download and print out an Action
Plan to help keep you on track as
you embark on this new journey.

to sign the Canadian Diabetes
Association's new Diabetes Charter
for Canada, is available online at
