In this presentation, participants will be provided with an overview of the astounding development of the human brain during adolescence. They will
walk away being able to identify at least three ways the brain matures during adolescence, how this growth impacts emotional experiences and social
participation, and understand how this particular period of brain development can uncover mental health illness. This information will be used to
identify therapeutic techniques appropriate during the period of development.

diagnosis of ASD, changes in the DSM, and treatments- specifically Applied Behavior Analysis.

Managing Cutting and other Self-Injurious Behaviors
This course will present current demographic and statistical data regarding self-injury, including age-of-onset, gender differences, and current
prevalence rates. We will examine and explain the reasons why individuals engage in self-injury. Also, practical and concrete interventional
strategies will be presented and illustrated. Several case studies will help attendees gain a solid “real-world” understanding of what is self-injury.

The Brain, The Labels, The Dilemma: Using Assessment to find Function and Treatment
The course will review the importance of continuing to integrate medical and mental knowledge in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. Things that
can be described, but do not exist in the manuals and are thus “squeezed into” billable diagnostics. There is the need for assessment accuracy and
blending comorbid medical factors to create simplicity from complexity, while using the information to coordinate clinical care. Join us for an
educational discourse addressing these challenges. Forest Hills Schools are closed

From the EAST, take 96 to Grand Rapids and exit at the East Beltline. Turn right (north) at the top of the exit ramp. Continue north past the
Frederik Meijer Gardens, past Leonard Street, to the third turnaround north of Leonard. Turn left onto the East Beltline heading south and
get in the right lane. The KENT ISD CONFERENCE CENTER is the first driveway on the right.
From the WEST, take 196 and go east to Grand Rapids. Just beyond where 196 and 96 merge, exit at the East Beltline exit. On the exit ramp
stay in one of the left lanes and turn left (north) at the top of the exit ramp onto the East Beltline. Continue north past the Frederik Meijer
