ABOUT THE PROGRAMME:
Dr. Akshai Aggarwal, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor has been working for innovative and non-repetitive
ideas in Final Year projects in engineering. This results in the need for patenting by students, Faculty
Members, Colleges or industries associated with many of these projects. Similar needs for patenting
arise for the work by the research students at Masters and doctoral work in different fields. GTU
has successfully organized 45 faculty workshops and 12 student workshops on various themes viz.
“Patenting in Engineering”, “Patenting in Pharmaceuticals” and “Patent Search Methodology” at
different zone of GTU since September 2011 to till December 2014. In this process more than 4500
faculty members and a large number of students have been trained and aware about the basics of
IPR and Patent in particular. Due to these efforts, within less than 3 years, more than 300 preliminary
patent applications have been filed by the GTU community.
Intellectual property (IP) is a right which refers to an exclusive ownership on varieties of intangible
assets, such as designs, discoveries, inventions, etc. recognized under the Intellectual Property
Rights (IPR) law. Intellectual Property Rights are territorial in nature. The territorial conception of
national and international intellectual property protection faces global challenges. According to the
principle of territoriality, the scope of protection of an IP right is limited to the territory of the
country where the right is granted. There are about 200 countries in the world with patent systems.
Each county has different law system, so there is a need to know basics of different country’s patent
system.
Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) are becoming one of the most influential and controversial issues
in today’s knowledge-based society. To support and guide the inventors/applicants who have desire
to file patent applications globally, GTU is going to organize one day workshop on “International
Patent Filing Procedure” as a part of at Ahmedabad on 13th January 2015, Tuesday.
OBJECTIVES:
 To understand International Patent Filing Procedure (PCT and Conventional application)
in India
 To understand European Patent System
 To understand European Patent Filing Procedure
 To understand US Patent Filing Procedure
 To guide participants regarding different patent filing systems
