AGNES GUILD: The St. Agnes Guild is a service organization at St. David’s with a variety of knitting projects for the parish, Austin, and world communities. Around Thanksgiving, more than 60 sets of hats and scarves, and 50 mittens, were knitted and crocheted by the St. Agnes Guild and were given to the women neigbors of Trinity Center. We also make prayer shawls, leprosy bandages, and baby caps for those in need. Join us in this endeavor, if you like to knit or crochet. If you don’t know how, we will teach you. We meet the last Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.-noon in the Guild Room. Contact Judith Cayton at [email protected] for questions. FEBRUARY 6 FRI. FIRST FRIDAY LABYRINTH WALK: 6-8:30 p.m. A labyrinth walk is a form of prayer or meditation dating to at least the 4th century in the Christian tradition. LOOKING AHEAD January 18, 2015 A weekly digest of parish announcements | VOLUME 20, NO. 3 STEWARDSHIP UPDATE Last week, parishioners responded very positively to our leadership’s request for parishioners to make a pledge or increase their current pledge. As a result of this request, 28 new pledges and 41 increases were received. We are now at $1,724,191 of our $2 million goal. If one of our 435 pledges is yours, thank you very much for your faith in our future together. For this year’s operating budget we are targeting $2 million in pledges, the level identified by our Vestry and Finance Committee as the amount required to prevent budget cuts and allowing our parish to continue the important ministries upon which we and our community depend. This includes music and worship, outreach, children and youth, adult formation, and much more. We are now in need of $275,809 in new or expanded pledges to continue the level of excellence in ministry and mission that we have come to expect and depend upon. Our Vestry will set the budget on January 20 based upon the amount of pledges received. We invite everyone to participate. If 200 households give or give an additional $1,000, and 200 give or give an additional $500, than we will maintain what we believe God has called us to do and be. This is a critical moment at a time when we are so needed in our community and in one another’s lives. Pledge what you can. Let’s share in keeping St. David’s as the “face of Christ” in downtown Austin. If you have questions on our budget and pledge campaign, please go to Sumners Hall following this worship service. Members of the Finance Committee will have a table set up and welcome your questions, thoughts, and ideas. Dr. Minka Shura Sprague. In the beginning, Paul translated our ways into ways that became a new creation; his words set us free. When the time had fully come, Elizabeth led us to the place where we could always faithfully search for the best human effort in our time. He told us to “walk by the Spirit.” She told us to pick up our prayer books, make communion, and go home; to quit worrying about agreeing with one another. A full schedule and registration is available at www.stdave.org. The Eckhardt Mission Series is offered at no cost. Dinner is a suggested $10, but please eat even if you cannot pay. Child care is provided free with advanced reservations to Laura Faulk at [email protected]. FAREWELL AND RETIREMENT RECEPTION: Save the date!
