CLARKSON SECONDARY SCHOOL
EXAMINATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR STUDENTS
JANUARY 2015
1. IT IS THE STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW WHEN AND WHERE EXAMS WILL BE WRITTEN, and what materials they are to bring to the exam. Exam room locations will be posted in classrooms and outside
the main office, as well as on the school website at www.clarksonss.ca. Each student will receive a copy of the exam schedule complete with exam instructions with his/her mid-term report card. There will
be no exam conflicts.
2. If you are ill on the day of an exam, you or your parent/guardian must call the school and ask to speak directly with your alpha Vice-Principal, Ms. Zammit (A-K) or Mr. Chamourian (L-Z)
before your exam begins, at 905-822-6700, Ext. 400. Examinations are compulsory. Therefore, if you miss and exam, or know you will miss an exam, a medical note from your family doctor
clearly indicating the doctor has examined you and found you unfit to write the scheduled exam is required to the Vice-Principal within 24 hours of the scheduled exam. A note that only
indicates you were seen will not be accepted. A documented medical reason as just described, or a serious family emergency (with parent communication to a Vice Principal) are the only
reasons for missing an exam. Failure to do so will result in a zero being assigned as the exam mark. PLEASE DO NOT BOOK ANY TRIPS DURING THE EXAM PERIOD; THIS IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE
ABSENCE. For legitimate absences, an alternate exam date will be arranged through the Vice-Principal, and make-up examinations will be completed before the end of the scheduled exam period.
3. Students arriving late for an exam will not be given additional time. Late students will report directly to their scheduled exam room and use the remaining time allocated. The time of arrival will be recorded on
the exam paper by the supervising teacher.
4. Exams are 1½ hours in length, unless indicated in bold. Students are encouraged to use the allocated time for the exam, but they may leave any time after the first hour of the exam with the permission of the
supervising teacher. Students who leave early must leave the building or report to the cafeteria for quiet conversation. STUDENTS ARE NOT TO BE IN THE HALLS.
5. Only textbooks being returned and materials for the exam are permitted in the exam room. Any items brought to the exam room that are not required for the exam will be stored at the front of the classroom.
All textbooks must be returned on the day of your exam or earlier to your classroom teacher or to the library.
6. IPods, phones of any kind, electronic translators or any other electronic devices are not permitted in the exam room unless specifically indicated in the instructions on the exam paper itself.
7. Students are to ensure that they have the appropriate materials required to write the exam: pens, pencils, eraser, ruler, highlighter, and a calculator, dictionary and thesaurus, if permitted, as stated on the exam
paper.
8. If the school is officially closed for an emergency, or if the Peel District School Board buses are cancelled (which will be announced by 6:45 a.m. on the official radio stations), then the exams for that day will be
postponed to either Monday, January 26, 2014 or Tuesday, January 27, 2014. Any revisions to the exam schedule will be posted in the main hallway and on our school website and on our school website.
9. Students should be aware that they will not be released from an exam room for any reason, including access to a washroom, unless escorted by a teacher.
10. Students are encouraged to arrange for transportation home following their exam, although the cafeteria is available for quiet conversation and the library for quiet study. Anyone removed from these locations
due to inappropriate behaviour will lose this privilege and will be required to leave the building.
11. A student who communicates with another student during an exam or who has unauthorized materials pertaining to the subject will receive a zero for the exam and face further disciplinary action.
