GRADUATE STUDENT SUMMER INTERNSHIP
Locations: Bihar, India; Delhi, India; East Africa (multiple); Lusaka, Zambia
We seek dynamic leaders who are passionate about making a difference, possess exceptional
analytical skills, and thrive in an entrepreneurial, developing country setting. The ideal
intern would be interested in joining IDinsight in a full-time role in the future, and would
take advantage of the internship to identify a potential long-term role in the organization.

and managers make socially impactful decisions using rigorous evidence. We carefully tailor
a wide range of analytical and quantitative tools to enable our clients to design better
policies, rigorously test those ideas and take informed action at scale to improve lives. Our
advisory teams are closely integrated into client organizations to help our clients
continuously innovate, learn and improve.
Founded by graduates of Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard Business School, IDinsight is
rapidly expanding. Our clients and partners include national government ministries across
Africa, state governments in India, the World Bank, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,
and innovative NGOs and social businesses. We work across a range of sectors, including
governance, health, education, employment generation, microfinance, agriculture, and

Internship Description
The intern will be based in one IDinsight office for the duration of the internship, and will be
assigned to 1-2 client engagements depending on client needs and the intern’s interests. The
intern may be involved with the following tasks, or others:
Strategic Consulting on Policy/Program Design
 Work closely with the IDinsight team and the client to gain a deep understanding
of the client’s context, needs, and constraints.
 Draw on different types of evidence – including field visits, interviews, existing
data and literature analysis – to design creative and contextually appropriate
policies/programs for our clients.
Rigorous and Actionable Learning and Impact Evaluation Systems Design
 Work closely with clients to understand their learning needs

 Design the most appropriate and rigorous learning and impact evaluation plan
to answer the clients’ priority questions
 Design an efficient data collection strategy, and perform statistical analysis to
measure the impact of selected interventions
 Interpret results in order to formulate recommendations and scale-up plans for
clients.
Client Management
 Interface with appropriate client counterparts
 Help determine the client’s priority questions and operational constraints
Innovative Service Development
 Work closely with IDinsight Leaders to develop new services that will meet the
needs of client organizations committed to making decisions based on evidence.
 Examples include developing monitoring systems to provide continuous data
for decisions, exploring potential uses of big data for our clients, and strategic
advisory for large grant-making organizations.
The intern will receive significant support and mentorship from IDinsight management.
A two-month commitment during summer of 2015 is required.
Qualifications






Currently pursuing a Master’s or Doctoral degree in public policy, international
development or a related field
Deeply passionate about international development and social impact
Outstanding quantitative and analytical skills, with experience in statistical software
strongly preferred
Expressed interest in joining IDinsight full-time after graduation strongly preferred
Work experience in a developing country setting strongly preferred
Intellectual curiosity and a sense of humor
Compensation
We encourage students to access university funding. IDinsight may also contribute to living
and other expenses.
