SIXTY YEARS OF HOLOCAUST
RESEARCH IN ITALY:
The Center for Contemporary Jewish
Documentation in Milan (CDEC)

On the 60th anniversary of the CDEC, we
honor the exceptional work of the young
Italian Jews who after the war were
committed to understand the tragedy
their community suffered. The data that
came to light, throughout the following
decades, in archives inside and outside
of Italy, was gathered by Liliana Picciotto
in her Il libro della memoria. Gli ebrei
deportati dall’Italia (1943 – 1945), Mursia,
Milano, 1991 (e 2002). CDEC is the leading
research institution on the history of the
persecution of the Jews in Italy and has
expanded its archive to include Italian
Jewish life since the emancipation
of 1861-1870 and the Italian Zionist
experience. It now reaches international
audiences by making available sixty
years of research on the Shoah in Italy,
dispelling misinterpretations of the
persecution of Italian Jews, reflecting
on the disintegration of civil liberties
under fascism and on the politics of the
construction of collective memory.

Exhibition Opening
The Galleria Arte Centro Lattuada has
selected seventeen artists that have
decided to take on a challenge that
would be proposed with the stamp of
a more radical rigor.
A “rigor” that forces space to become
a thing, rather than for things to fill
space.
NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY OF
THE EXILES AND FOIBE 2015
In 2004, the Italian Parliament
instituted the National Day in
memory of the foibe victims, of the
Julian-Dalmatian exodus and of the
historical events of the North-Oriental
Italian boundary.
The Exhibition shall remain open from
February 5 through March 6
The National Memorial Day of the
Exiles and foibe commemorates a
very sad moment in the history of
Italy. After sixty years, extensive and
painful research has shed new light
on this history: with the peace treaty
of 1947, Italy lost vast territories in
Istria, Fiume and along the coast of
Dalmatia. Nearly 350,000 inhabitants
of this region chose to leave their
native lands, now part of Yugoslavia,
to escape persecutory measures and
proceeded to settle down in Italy.

There is an intellectual depth and
philosophical conception, and it
could be argued that this is a new
beginning, which is inspired by the
rigor of the forms and the relationship
with space, hence Rigorism.

CHANTS, BOXERS, WOUNDS
Chants, Boxers, Wounds is an evening where the Italian writer Gabriele Tinti will read his poetry on boxing and will present Poetry Films, based on his text.
Immediately following, there will be a discussion with actor Edoardo Ballerini, directors Michele Civetta and Robert Conticelli, and translator Nicholas Benson.
Also present at the event will be Paulie Malignaggi (former Welterweight World Champion and commentator on the Showtime Network), Vito Antuofermo (former Middleweight
World Champion and actor) and Vinny Maddalone (Italian American boxer).
