Go Red for Heart Month
The Garden Gazette
By Tori Couch
Greystone is committed to healthy,
worthy and impactful causes. We are proud to
support the American Heart Association's Go
Red For Women initiative and National Heart
Month.
This February, Greystone kicks of the Go
Red Survivor Gallery, a traveling gallery of
heart issue survivors featuring Greystone's
own associates. Traveling through the Tampa
Bay and St. Petersburg area, the gallery
showcases women who have dealt with heart
attacks, arrhythmia (dangerously rapid heart
rate), and battled through heart conditions
from birth.
Many women may be unaware of
potential heart attack signs which differ greatly
from men. Often misdiagnosed, women's
symptoms include:
 Chest discomfort or upper body pain in the
back, shoulders, arms, stomach, jaw, neck
or throat
 Lightheadedness or dizziness
 Nausea or vomiting
 Inability to sleep or unusual fatigue
 Shortness of breath or trouble breathing

As the 2015 Go Red Tampa Bay Chair,
Connie Bessler, CEO of Greystone Healthcare
Management, is raising awareness and support
for women's heart health. "Through education
we can highlight the different ways heart
concerns can manifest themselves and
encourage better care and safety. A number
one killer of women, we must be constantly
vigilant against such a serious – and often
overlooked – health concern."

Letter from the Administrator
Can you believe that it is February already? It seems like we
were just talking about the New Year’s Celebrations, but February
has its own special events to celebrate. It’s the month of
Valentines! Remember when you and your parents would go
shopping for those special cards and candy hearts. You knew the
school Valentine’s party was coming. Your Mom was helping you
prepare everything for that “Special Day”.
It was the day that maybe; just maybe, that special girl or
boy in your class would give you a Valentines card that would “rock
your world”. And if you were really lucky, you would get a candy
heart with that “Special” message on it. The message to “Be
Mine”!
I still send my little cards and candy hearts to my children,
who are well into their adult years, and grandchildren. Expressions
of how one cares for another person are timeless.
Someone told me that I was “Old School”. I am. And, I hope
that I will always be. Because if “Old School” can make someone
smile; bring back some fond memory of another time; or create a
moment in time that will become a
fond memory in the years to come
then thank God for old school.
Who are you going to ask if they
will “Be Mine”?

Valentine’s Day Sweetheart Luncheon
Mr. Horster, who
prefers to be called “Bob”,
has been a member at the
facility for about 3 years. He
was an only child, and
adopted. He was raised on a
farm and like most boys, he
enjoyed playing Cowboys and
Indians and was a member of
the Boy Scout Club.
As an adult, he was
married for 66 wonderful
years to his wife, Florence.
Sadly she passed away this
past year. He misses her
dearly and still enjoys writing
love letters to her, and likes to
share them with staff who
visit him in his room. While
they were married, they had
three children and moved to
Florida in 1958.
On February 14, 2015 the Activity Dept. & Dietary Dept. will be teaming up to offer
members who have a significant other a Valentine’s Day Sweetheart Luncheon. It will take
place in the Ice Cream Parlor starting at noon. Love will certainly be in the air as couples
enjoy a romantic meal with one another accompanied with soft romantic music in the
background.
For about 35 years Bob
worked at a telephone
company and built houses.
When he retired in 1983 they
sold their house and went to
“see America” as they
traveled for 7 years! Some of
his hobbies included
woodworking, traveling and
listening to music.
Bob feels that he has
received many blessing and
favors in his life. Having Bob
in our facility , we feel blessed
as well.

Flu Shots Still Available
This year's flu outbreak is starting
earlier than usual and is widespread and
increasing throughout the state, say officials
who are urging Floridians to get their flu shot.
At 25 clinics, including 21 in Central Florida,
908 cases were reported; that's 44 percent
higher than the previous one-week high of

Recommendations include frequent
hand-washing, cleaning with bleach wipes,
covering coughs and seeking medical

most common treatment for the flu, only
works if started in the first 48 hours of illness.
