PROJECT NEWS
NESPAK wins USAID
funded project in Sindh
NESPAK Karachi office has won
architectural and engineering services for
the USAID-funded Sindh Basic Education
Program (SBEP) - Milestone Monitoring
Services for the construction of schools in
Sindh through an open competition.
According to the details, the 2010 floods
affected approximately 5,000 schools in
Sindh, out of which 2,500 schools were
completely destroyed. This natural
catastrophe hindered the education
process of thousands of children in Sindh
and other parts of Pakistan.
In order to improve access to schools,
quality of education in flood-affected
districts and restore public confidence in
the public education system, USAID
offered its support to the Government of
Sindh (GoS) for the construction of new
facilities to replace damaged schools in
seven priority districts in the northern area
of Sindh. These districts included
Jacobabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Kashmore,
Kamber Shahdadkot, Dadu, and Khairpur
besides selected towns of Karachi like
Gadap, Lyari, Orangi, Kemari and Bin
Qasim. USAID will provide financial
support for the construction of an
estimated 90 to 140 new schools.

partner with its associates (Associates in
Development and TECHRED), consists of
services required for monitoring the
achievement of payment milestones
identified in fixed amount reimbursement
agreements between USAID and the GoS
with following details: preparation of a
milestone monitoring plan (which shall also
serve as the equivalent of a Performance
Monitoring Plan for this Task Order) for all
construction activities under Components I
and II of the SBEP. The plan will include
appropriate inspection schedules,
standard inspection forms, and guidelines
for inspectors, monitoring of environmental
compliance, monitoring of quality
assurance by the contractor providing
architectural & engineering services for
the construction of
schools and shall
provide the contractor
and USAID with any
review comments and
suggestions for
improvements. The
Milestone Monitoring
Plan shall also identify
specific tests to be
conducted by the
contractor to verify
the accuracy and
quality of testing
being performed by
the A&E services
contractor and the
GoS contracted
construction firms.
