ASH WEDNESDAY
EUCHARIST – THIS WEEK
Ash Wednesday officially begins the Lenten and Easter
cycle. Ashes from burned palms saved from the
previous year are placed on the forehead of repentant
parishioners.
The practice of covering oneself with ashes is shown to
us in the Old Testament, and Christians in the early
centuries followed the same practice in private. It
became a way for sinners to give a public sign of their
repentance.
Today, members of the community receive ashes on
their foreheads as a public sign of their desire to turn
away from sin and be more faithful to the gospel. Ashes
will be imposed at two celebrations of the Eucharist on
Ash Wednesday as well as celebrations of the Word
with the junior and intermediate grades in each of our
six elementary schools.
The Eucharist will be celebrated in the church on Ash
Wednesday at 8:00 am and 7:00 pm.

content of the Lineamenta, which is the working
document for the upcoming Synod. It can be
completed on line, or printed and faxed or
mailed to the Family Ministry Office. The
th
deadline for submission is February 27 .
2. Attend one of two focus group gatherings
where the questionnaire will be discussed and
responses collected to include in the final
report. Both gatherings will occur from 7:00 9:00 pm and you are asked to RRSP by phone

CHRISTIAN MEDICAL & DENTAL SOCIETY
Doctors may be required to violate their moral integrity
by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
(CPSO).
Our doctors simply ask that they be respected as
professionals. Forcing doctors to violate their moral
integrity is not only damaging to the doctors, but to the
patients and to the medical services as a whole. The
CPSO have a draft policy that would demand that
doctors participate in morally controversial procedures
like birth control, abortion and even euthanasia (if it
becomes legal).
The choice is yours. Will you tell the CPSO what you
think about conscience rights? For more information
visit: www.cmdscanada.org. The deadline for
th
comments is February 20 .
