Elo and Olga Urbanovsky Fellowship The Urbanovsky endowment
Elo and Olga Urbanovsky Fellowship
The Urbanovsky endowment was established in 1979 by former Texas Tech Horn Professor Elo
Urbanovsky (for a complete bio on Professor “Prof” Urbanovsky please visit
http://www.depts.ttu.edu/gradschool/docs/scholarships/donors/UrbanovskyBio.pdf).
The fellowship provides financial support to new or current doctoral students pursuing areas of research
related to land-use planning, management and design. It supports one student as an Urbanovsky Fellow
for three years at $30,000/year plus tuition and fees. During this time, the recipient must remain
continuously enrolled as a full-time doctoral student.

Fellowship Disbursement
Recipients of this award will have their tuition and fees paid at the beginning of each semester and the
$30,000 fellowship award will be allocated out over a 12-month period, with $2,500 being posted to the
student’s University tuition and fee account each month.
This fellowship does qualify students for in-state tuition.
*International students who receive this fellowship will be taxed each month since the amount of the
award exceeds the total cost of tuition and fees. For the typical international student, this tax would be
14% of the $2,500 each month (or around $350 a month would be withheld) if they hold an F, J, M, or Q
visa. This is a federal IRS policy and more information can be found at
http://www.depts.ttu.edu/opmanual/OP62.17.pdf - section 2C. Therefore, these students would receive
approximately $2,100 each month after the payment of tuition and fees.
*Domestic students will not be taxed on this fellowship.
