Second Sunday in Lent
Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday
and ends on Holy Saturday. Lent comes from the Anglo-Saxon word lencten, which
means “spring.” The season is a preparation for celebrating Easter. Historically,
Lent began as a period of fasting and preparation for baptism by converts and then
became a time for penance by all Christians. Because Sundays are always little Easters,
the penitential spirit of Lent should be tempered with joyful expectation of the
Resurrection. Paraments, stoles and banners are purple and ash colors symbolizing
penitence and royalty.

The Choral Introit*
Lamb of God
Twila Paris, arr. Mark Hayes
Your only Son, no sin to hide, but You have sent Him from Your side to walk upon
this guilty sod, and to become the Lamb of God. O Lamb of God, sweet Lamb of
God; I love the holy Lamb of God. O wash me in His precious blood. My Jesus
Christ, the Lamb of God. Your gift of love they crucified, they laughed and scorned
Him as He died; The humble King they named a fraud, and sacrificed the Lamb of
God. I was so lost I should have died, but You have brought me to Your side to be
led by Your staff and rod, and to be called a Lamb of God.
Doxology Quartet

Lord, for thy tender mercy’s sake, lay not our sins to our charge, but forgive that is

virtue, that we may walk in a perfect heart before thee, now and evermore. Amen.
The Parish Choir (8:45 am)
In my weakness
David McIntyre
(b. 1950)
In my weakness and my failing Lord, my heart draws near to Thee; for Your
strength is not made perfect till my strength’s gone from me. Lord You only save the
sinner, only make the blind to see; You give water to the thirsty, Lord I thirst for
righteousness, fill me. In my darkness and my shadows, Lord You guide me with your
eye; grace abounding by your Spirit my every need supplies. Thank you Lord for life
abundant, not my life by Yours in me. Let me never work to help Thee, ’till I find my
strength in Thee.
