The Lord`s Day - Faith Presbyterian Church
The Lord’s Day
March 1, 2015
Reflection
O Love, O my God, enkindle me! You command continence; give what You command,
and command what You will.
Augustine of Hippo
Call to Worship
Psalm 99:1-3, 9
Worship Leader: The LORD reigns; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the
cherubim; let the earth quake!
All: The LORD is great in Zion; he is exalted over all the peoples.
Worship Leader: Let them praise your great and awesome name! Holy is he!
All: Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for the LORD our
God is holy!
Hymn of Praise #2
“Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing”
Robinson/Wyeth
Invocation (followed by the Lord’s Prayer)
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we
forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is
the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
Call to Confession
2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and
turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal
their land.
Prayer of Confession
Adapted from The Valley of Vision [Sins]
Merciful Lord, pardon all our sins of this day, week, and year; sins of omission and
commission, of hard-heartedness, unbelief, presumption, and pride. Pardon our sins
in private and in the family, in study and recreation, in the busy haunts of men, in the
study of your Word and in the neglect of it, in prayer irreverently offered and coldly
withheld. Pardon our sins of yielding to Satan’s wiles, of opening our hearts to his
temptations. Pardon our sins against truth and knowledge, against conscience and
the restraints of your Spirit, against the law of eternal love. Pardon all our sins,
known and unknown, felt and unfelt, confessed and unconfessed, remembered or
forgotten. Good Lord, hear; and hearing, forgive. Amen.
Silent Confession
Words of Encouragement
Isaiah 1:18
Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they
shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.

Before the Throne
Charitie Bancroft & Vikki Cook ©1997 PDI Worship
Before the throne of God above I have a strong and perfect plea,
A great High Priest whose name is love who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on His hands. My name is written on His heart.
I know that while in heav’n He stands no tongue can bid me thence depart,
No tongue can bid me thence depart
When Satan tempts me to despair and tells me of my guilt within,
Upward I look and see Him there who made an end of all my sin.
Because the sinless Savior died my sinful soul is counted free.
For God, the Just, is satisfied to look on Him and pardon me,
To look on Him and pardon me
Behold Him there the risen Lamb, my perfect spotless Righteousness,
The great unchangeable I AM, the King of Glory and of Grace.
One with Himself I cannot die. My soul is purchased by His blood.
My life is hid with Christ on high, with Christ my Savior and My God,
With Christ my Savior and my God.
In Christ Alone
Getty/Townend, Thankyou Music CCLI # 3350395
In Christ alone my hope is found, He is my light, my strength, my song;
This cornerstone, this solid ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My comforter, my all in all, here in the love of Christ I stand.
In Christ alone! who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness, scorned by the ones He came to save:
Till on that cross as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied
For ev’ry sin on Him was laid; here in the death of Christ I live.
There in the ground His body lay, Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious day up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine – bought with the precious blood of Christ.
No guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the pow’r of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny.
No pow’r of hell, no scheme of man, can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home, here in the pow’r of Christ I’ll stand!
Presentation of Tithes and Offerings
Doxology
Let all things their creator bless, and worship him with humbleness!
O praise him, Alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son, and praise the Spirit, Three in One,
O praise him! O praise him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Amen.
Confession of Faith
From the Heidelberg Catechism
Worship Leader: What is your only comfort in life and in death?
All: That I am not my own, but belong – body and soul, in life and in death – to my
faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious
blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in
such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in
heaven. In fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to
Him, Christ, by His Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me
wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for Him.
Worship Leader: What must you know to live and die in the joy of this comfort?
All: Three things: first, the greatness of my sin and misery; second, how I am set free
from all my sins and misery; and third, how I am to thank God for such a
deliverance.
Prayers of the People
Worship Leader: Father, we pray for your holy Church;
All: That we all may be one.
Worship Leader: Grant that every member of the Church may truly and humbly serve you;
All: That your Name may be glorified by all people.
Worship Leader: We pray for all ministers and leaders of your church;
All: That they may faithfully proclaim your truth in word and in deed.
Worship Leader: Give us grace to do your will in all that we undertake;
All: That what we do will bring honor to you in our lives.
Worship Leader: We pray for all who govern and hold authority over us;
All: That they may lead us in justice and that we would live peaceful lives.
Worship Leader: We pray for family, friends and others who are seeking you;
All: That they might know the wonder and joy of fellowship in your presence.
Worship Leader: Have compassion on those who suffer from any grief or trouble;
All: That they may be delivered from their distress.
Worship Leader: Let us pray for our own needs and those of others.

“Christian Liberty”
Meditation & Prayer
Rev. Erik McDaniel
1 Corinthians 8; 10:15-33
The Sacrament of The Lord’s Supper
Communion, also called The Lord’s Supper or Eucharist, is the family meal of Christians.
We invite all committed followers of Jesus Christ to share in this sacrament: those who are
baptized members of a congregation that proclaims the gospel, who are at peace with God
and their neighbor, and who seek strength to live in a deeper communion with Jesus. If you
are not a Christian, or you are not prepared to share in this meal, we encourage you to spend
this time in prayer. We hope that this time is helpful to you as you consider your relationship
with Jesus Christ and with his people, the Church.
(Gluten free communion bread is available upon request; please speak to the pastor before
the service or alert your server during communion.)
Closing Hymn #88
“Fairest Lord Jesus”
German Hymn
Benediction
1 Corinthians 8
1
Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that “all of us possess knowledge.”
This “knowledge” puffs up, but love builds up. 2 If anyone imagines that he knows something,
he does not yet know as he ought to know. 3 But if anyone loves God, he is known by God.
4
Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “an idol has no
real existence,” and that “there is no God but one.” 5 For although there may be so-called
gods in heaven or on earth- as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”- 6 yet for us
there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one
Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.
7
However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, through former association
with idols, eat food as really offered to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. 8
Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off
if we do. 9 But take care that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling
block to the weak. 10 For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol's temple,
will he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? 11 And so
by your knowledge this weak person is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. 12
Thus, sinning against your brothers and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin
against Christ. 13 Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I
make my brother stumble.
1 Corinthians 10:15-33
15
I speak as to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. 16 The cup of
blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we
break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? 17 Because there is one bread, we who
are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread. 18 Consider the people of Israel:
are not those who eat the sacrifices participants in the altar? 19 What do I imply then? That
food offered to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? 20 No, I imply that what pagans
sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with
demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot
partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.
22
Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he? 23 “All things are
lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up. 24
Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. 25 Eat whatever is sold in the
meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience. 26 For “the earth is
the Lord's, and the fullness thereof.” 27 If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and
you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the
ground of conscience. 28 But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,”
then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for the sake of conscience29
I do not mean your conscience, but his. For why should my liberty be determined by
someone else's conscience? 30 If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced because
of that for which I give thanks?
31
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 32
Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, 33 just as I try to please
everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may
be saved.

MEN'S RETREAT, MARCH 13 & 14 ~ SIGN UP SHEET IN THE NARTHEX
Men have a reputation for not asking for directions when it becomes apparent that we are
not going where we thought we were going. Paul tells us in Philippians 1:6 with confidence
that we WILL reach our destination. "And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work
in you WILL bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ." The problem is that in the
here and now, we often fail to see much progress. At work there is disappointment; at home
we often fail to love as we should. We can grumble and complain, and wonder if perhaps
we've taken a wrong turn. Where is the joy of our salvation? Please join us at Shocco
Springs, Friday evening and Saturday morning, March 13 & 14, for food, fellowship and an
opportunity to be encouraged about what God is doing to complete in us what He has
begun. The cost is $80.00. Guest Speaker: Dr. Peck Mallory. Hope to see you there!
WIC – Women in the Church, set aside Saturday, April 25, for a brunch followed by guest
speaker, Rebecca Walker. More details to follow.
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY - Our children ages 5 through 6th grade have received a set of
memory verse and passage cards. Our desire is for our children to not only memorize these
Bible verses, but to also put them into practice in their daily lives and recall them many times
throughout their lives. We want our children to treasure God’s word and make it part of
their lives for a lifetime and for eternity. March’s memory passage is John 8:12.

WHAT WE BELIEVE
• We believe the Bible is the written word of
God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without
error in the original manuscripts. The Bible is
the revelation of God’s truth and is infallible
and authoritative in all matters of faith and
practice
• We believe in the Holy Trinity. There is one
God, who exists eternally in three persons: the
Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
• We believe that all are sinners and totally
unable to save themselves from God’s
displeasure, except by His mercy.
• We believe that salvation is by God alone as
He sovereignly chooses those He will save.
We believe His choice is based on His grace,
not on any human individual merit, or
foreseen faith.
• We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal
Son of God, who through His perfect life and
sacrificial death atoned for the sins of all who
will trust in Him, alone, for salvation.
• We believe that God is gracious and faithful
to His people, not simply as individuals but as
families in successive generations according
to His Covenant promises.
• We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells
God’s people and gives them the strength and
wisdom to trust Christ and follow Him.
• We believe that Jesus will return, bodily and
visibly to judge all mankind and to receive
His people to Himself.
• We believe that all aspects of our lives are to
be lived to the glory of God under the
Lordship of Jesus Christ.
The Vision of Faith
Presbyterian Church is
To become a fellowship of
believers who are experiencing
the transforming power
of the Gospel
And are Instruments of Change
in the lives of others
Our Mission is
To promote a passion for the
Glory of God,
And the joy that comes from
knowing Him through the
Gospel of Jesus Christ
