WASTE MANAGEMENT TECHNICIAN
(Summer Student – May to August 2015)

Job Details:
The Waste Management Division is seeking a student who is both resourceful and
outgoing, with an interest in environmental protection and basic waste management
knowledge. You will assist in taking telephone and on-line orders for the City’s compost,
schedule daily deliveries, arrange for payments, etc. You will be able to converse with
residents about the benefits of compost, how to use it, etc. Surveys of past compost
users may be required. Other duties may include basic assessments of blue boxes and
public space recycling bins, research/support of the City’s multi-residential recycling
program, tracking waste and recycling set out and participation rates, researching and
updating the database for multi-residential and business sector recycling, doing website
updates, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Candidates must be a post secondary student returning to school or a graduate (within
the last 6 months) of a post secondary institution. Interested candidates should have
strong research skills, well developed verbal and written communication skills with the
ability to effectively correspond with the public; proven organization skills with good
attention to detail; Requires an individual who has a valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s
license and must have access to a vehicle to fulfill the duties of the position. Strong
computer skills, particularly with MS Office are essential. Candidate must be prepared
to provide proof of education.
Hourly Rate: $14.86
