Dear Community Members,
On behalf of the Fremont Unified School District, I welcome you to Fremont Adult and
Continuing Education’s (FACE) Spring/Summer class schedule. While many communities
have reduced or eliminated adult education programs, Fremont is fortunate to have a
strong and vibrant adult school that serves both the community and improves the lives of
its residents.
Throughout the years, thousands of Fremont community members have benefited from
our adult education programs. Whether you are looking to improve your basic English
language skills, complete your GED, prepare for a career change, or simply explore ways
to broaden your personal horizons, FACE is the place for you!

Hello Lifelong Learners!
Spring is an exciting time filled with promise and opportunities for personal growth and
improvement. At Fremont Adult and Continuing Education, we have something for
everyone:
 Our Adult Basic Education will help you brush up on your reading and writing skills.
 The High School Diploma program includes classroom instruction, learning labs,
independent study and on-line courses that will help you earn your diploma in
preparation for college or vocational training, and the ability to pursue a higher
paying career path.
 Community Interest classes are your key to learning new personal health/training
routines, foreign languages, computer skills, or even taking care of your traffic ticket!
 Bring your preschool aged child with you to Parenting classes and learn how to boost
your child’s social and academic development while you have the chance to make
new friends.
 English as a Second Language classes help community members of all abilities improve
their English communication skills and prepare for U.S. citizenship.
We have been working hard to plan an integrated system of adult education options in
partnership with Ohlone College, our neighboring adult schools, and our many community
partner agencies. The Governor’s budget proposal for the 2015-2016 school year includes
some new monies to help us begin to implement our plans. Stay tuned for more good news
about the growth and improvement of adult education in the coming year!

Academics
The adult school offers programs in Adult Basic Skills, Test Preparation, and High School
Diploma. Classroom instruction, Independent Study, and Test Preparation classes are offered
on the Main Campus.
Academic Advisement, Orientation and Registration sessions are held regularly. Please call
(510) 793-6469 to reserve a place in the next registration session. You may enroll in multiple a.m. and/or p.m. classes. Photo identification and official high school transcript required
to register.
ADULT BASIC SKILLS PROGRAM
Improve your basic math, English and reading skills to prepare for the GED or high school credit
classes. Mornings 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon and Evenings 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Monday through
Thursday.
HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA CLASSROOM PROGRAM
Classes are scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Students enroll on a quarterly
basis. All students in each class study the same material. No homework is assigned.
All courses satisfy high school graduation requirements. This is a good option for
those who appreciate the extra support and structure of a traditional classroom.
HIGH SCHOOL LEARNING CENTER
This is a self-paced learning environment where students may complete coursework to fulfill
graduation requirements. The lab is open Monday through Thursday mornings from 8:45 a.m. –
1:45 p.m. and evenings from 5:15 p.m. – 9:45 p.m.
ADULT INDEPENDENT STUDY
To help students who cannot attend our regularly scheduled classes or the High School Learning
Center, Fremont Adult and Continuing Education has a Distance Learning (DL) option. This option
involves meeting weekly or bi-weekly with an instructor for support and testing while completing
the coursework (reading, video, computer software and written assignments) independently at
home. This is a good option for highly motivated students with the appropriate reading/skill
levels. Enrollment in this option is very limited due to recent budget reduction and must be approved by an administrator. Independent Study intake is by appointment only.

CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT
Concurrent high school seniors are allowed to enroll in the late afternoon (3:40 p.m. to 6:50 p.m. class periods) for credit recovery only. The concurrent enrollment process is initiated through the senior’s high school
counselor who will identify appropriate classes for credit recovery and assist in completing the permission
form. Students bring their completed permission form to the adult school where they will complete the registration process and receive a schedule.

The materials, software and instruction provided in this openentry lab will help you prepare for the GED®, CAHSEE, ASVAB,
CHSPE, CBEST, and other qualifying or placement examinations. New students are assessed and counseled at entry to
develop a personalized plan that addresses their academic
needs and goals. Since instruction and curriculum are selfpaced, attendance is more flexible than a conventional classroom. Afternoon/evening students may arrive at the time most

Literacy, Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Classes Offered
ESL classes teach grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, speaking,
and life skills to non-English speaking adults. English Language Civic lessons
and computer skills are also taught as part of the curriculum. Special
Interest Classes focus on special aspects of English, such as Listening and
Speaking, American Pronunciation, Grammar, Vocabulary, Writing, etc. We
offer a wide variety of days and times to suit your needs.

Do you want to learn English? Can’t come to class? Join the Study-ESL-atHome program at Fremont Adult and Continuing Education! Meet with an
experienced ESL teacher 2-4 times a month to check your progress, take
tests, and get new assignments. We offer: online courses, DVDs, CDs, and
workbooks.
Improve your English skills in grammar, writing, vocabulary, reading, and
listening. Learn English at your own pace with study-at-home materials for
all ESL levels. DVD/workbook refundable deposit is $20. Some workbooks are
available for purchase.
Distance Learning Lab
The Distance Learning Mini Lab is open for online
students! Students may come in during office
hours to use iPads, Chromebooks, and laptops to
learn English.

We are offering Distance Learning online
courses for beginning to advanced ESL students.
Courses include:
 USA Learns 1 (Beginning)—This course uses an online classroom-based

teaching video.
USA Learns 2 (Intermediate)—This course uses video stories with short
writing activities.
USA Learns Practice English & Reading (Intermediate - Advanced)—
This course has readings based on real life situations. Each story contains
reading, vocabulary development, comprehension questions and a
writing prompt.
Advanced ESL Moodle Course (Advanced)—This online course has
activities which include listening, reading, writing, vocabulary
development, and grammar practice.
Registration is $20.

This program offers life skills instruction for developmentally disabled adults.
We teach skills that enable individuals to function independently and socially
in our community. Our approach affirms the dignity of students and their right
to independence, self esteem, and respect.
Curriculum Includes:
Job Skills Preparation in the areas of: Computer Skills, Cooking,
Gardening/Landscaping, and Recycling. Students participate in Community Outings,
Conflict Resolution, study Current Events, and engage in Personal Fitness activities.*

*AWD Program-Noll Center does NOT serve consumers with moderate to severe
aggressive behaviors toward self or others; complicated or critical medical issues;

ALLIED HEALTH CAREERS
Medical Assistant, Front and Back Office—Earn your certificate in as little as
6 months and qualify for an entry-level position in a doctor’s office or medical clinic.
As a Medical Assistant, you will be trained to help physicians care for patients,
including how to take vital signs, perform basic lab tests and administer medications
in a doctor’s office or clinic. The program includes 280 hours of classroom instruction
and a 180-hour medical office externship. The program will prepare you to take the
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam from the National Healthcare
Association (NHA) and/or the California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants.
Program Fee $2795 (includes CPR certification training for the Healthcare Provider,
liability insurance, externship, and certificate). Pay the full amount and receive a
$100 discount. $300 Registration deposit. Textbooks are sold separately and must be
purchased prior to the first day of class.
Prerequisites: 18 years of age and a high school diploma or equivalent.
Scrubs and Name Tags: These items are sold separately and must be purchased prior
to the first day of class. Scrubs must be navy blue. Scrubs and name tag can be

Phlebotomy Technician—Earn your certificate in as little as 3 months and qualify
for an entry-level position in a laboratory setting.
As a Phlebotomy Technician you will be trained to draw blood samples from patients
in a clinical laboratory or public health setting. Over the course of the program, you
will gain exposure to on-the-job duties that include drawing blood samples from
patients, producing quality laboratory results, gaining the trust and confidence of
patients, and much more. The program includes 64 hours of classroom instruction and
a 40 to 100 hour clinical phlebotomy externship, which will vary by externship site.
The program will prepare you to take the Exam for Phlebotomy Certification (CPT)
from the National Healthcare Association (NHA).

Account Clerk, Part 1 of 3
Employment Development Course:
Part 1 of the Accounting Clerk Certificate program is
an introduction to accounting. We learn the
fundamentals of accounting including how to start a
company file and make the initial entries. We learn
how the Balance Sheet and Income Statement
accounts are structured and how postings to these
accounts affect the books. The Debit and Credit
system of double entry accounting is introduced and
implemented to make journal entries business
transactions and post them to the General Ledger.
We also discover banking and cash control systems,
and reconciliation of bank accounts. Book is required
and will be discussed at first class meeting.

In Part 2, we continue learning the fundamentals of
accounting including how Financial Statements are
generated. We learn how a trial balance is used with
a worksheet to make adjusting entries and doing the
closing entries to close off an accounting period. We
discover how net income is posted to the Balance
Sheet and how the Income Statement accounts are
closed for the period. Payroll Accounting is also
covered, including the postings of both employee and
employer related transactions. We will use
QuickBooks to post to Accounts Receivable and

Mission Statement
Fremont Adult and Continuing Education, an
integral part of the Fremont Unified School
District, will offer lifelong educational
opportunities and services to address the
unique needs of individuals in the community.
Our goal is to teach adults skills necessary to
participate effectively as citizens, workers,
parents, and family members. Instruction will
be accessible and convenient, and will address the diversity of learning-styles, cultures
and educational backgrounds.

The District recognizes its responsibility to

programs and activities. Therefore, in accordance with state guidelines, the District has

Non-Smoking Policy
Effective September 1, 1993, smoking and/or
use of any tobacco product is prohibited
within any District site during school sponsored activities, and in vehicles owned and/or
operated by the Fremont Unified School
District. The non-smoking policy is applicable
on grounds, and in any buildings in which
services are provided by employees of the
school district. (Board Policy #3515.3).
There is a $25 Service Charge
on Returned Checks.
Parking
Fremont Adult and Continuing Education patrons
are encouraged to park in adult school parking
lots. Please respect residential parking spaces on
public streets adjacent to our campus. Also, we
ask you to be aware of the legal guidelines regarding on-street drop-off and pick-up, i.e. not
stopping at any time on the roads in front of
campus. Park at your own risk! We are not liable
for any damages incurred to vehicles parked in
the parking lots.

If there is insufficient enrollment, we reserve the
right to cancel the course. You will be notified of

There are NO REFUNDS once classes begin.

Children may not accompany their parent(s) to
classes unless the course description specifies
parent/child participation.
Remember!
A separate check for each class. A 24-hour
notification is required for any cancellation of
registration. No reminder will be sent regarding class
start date.

At time of registration, a copy of your child’s immunization (including children in childcare) AND a
negative T.B. Report (from within the LAST FOUR YEARS) is required for each parent attending
class. WE MUST HAVE THESE RECORDS BEFORE YOU ATTEND CLASS.
We also provide child care for siblings 6 months and up for $50 per child per class. We accept
an additional child in the same class for a fee of $75. Please select classes wisely; there will
be no refunds, cancellations, or make-ups. NO EXCEPTIONS!
