WHAT IS FAITH? - Glebe Road Uniting Church
Sunday, 11th August 2013
W H AT I S F A I T H ?
This morning we are exploring a portion of Hebrews 11. This chapter
stands as a beacon of light declaring the faith of the ancients as a
witness to us: Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph,
Moses and Rahab. The chapter opens with these words:
“Now faith is confidence
in what we hope for and
assurance about what
we do not see.”
(Hebrews 11:1)
EKKA RESULTS
Pete and Lachie have something to
crow about! Their roosters gained a
second and third place at the Ekka. If
you wish to visit their chooks please
note the following pen numbers:
1195, 1199, 1200, 1204, 1205, 1211, 1212.
Christian faith is that trust and confidence we have in a living and loving
God, self-revealed in Jesus Christ, and present with us by the Holy Spirit.
In Christ we are offered the free gift of life-transforming grace, life in all
its fullness, and eternal life beyond this mortal existence.
Today we will be celebrating this gift of God’s grace expressed
preveniently in the sacrament of baptism. Adam and Jane Tipple will be
presenting their beautiful daughter, Rose, for baptism in faith that the
Spirit of Christ will continue to be at work in her life, and that she will
continue to experience the reality of God’s amazing love through this
part of God’s family, of which we are all a part.
Lectionary

with one bird in the top 16 of the
show and one in the top 8. Pen

A UCA discussion on
Marriage and public
covenants
for same gender
relationships.
Consultation at Glebe Rd UCA
Fellowship Hall,
Thursday August 15th 6:30pm for
7:00pm.
Please RSVP to church office.
The Assembly Doctrine Working
Group has asked for a consultation
with members of the UCA in the
Bremer Brisbane Presbytery – along
with another presbytery in
Queensland - so that it can best
prepare the discussion paper for the
church on theology of marriage
within the UCA and its implications
for public covenants for same-gender
relationships.
The aim of this meeting is for the
Doctrine Working Group to gain a
sense of what the issues of concern
are around marriage and same
gender relationships. This is not a
meeting at which a vote will be taken
for or against any proposal.
All participants in UCA congregations
and faith communities are welcome
to attend.
