ABOUT THE COLLEGE:
Valliammai Engineering College (VEC) was founded in
1999 by Dr. T. R. Paarivendar to impart world class education in
Engineering Technology and particularly to develop useful
manpower with entrepreneurship qualities for industry. It is a
self-financed institute run by Valliammai Society. The institute
offers seven engineering UG degree courses viz. Electronics &
Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics
Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science
Engineering, Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering,
Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering, PG degree
courses in Power System Engineering, Control &
Instrumentation, Communication Systems, Computer Science
& Engineering, Structural Engineering, CAD/CAM,
Management Studies (MBA), Computer Applications (MCA). It
is approved by AICTE, accredited by NAAC with 'A' Grade,
accredited by NBA and affiliated to Anna University. The
institute is spread over wide area with modern laboratories
and infrastructure, well-qualified staff members. It is an ISO
9001:2008 certified institute.
About the Department:
The Department of Physics, started in 1999, satisfies
the needs of the Engineering Departments and has grown by
catering to the demands of the Institution and students. The
Department consists of ten experienced faculty members of
which five are Doctorates. Two faculty members are pursuing
Ph.D. The Department has one Professor, two Assistant
Professor (Selection Grade), one Assistant Professor (Senior
Grade) and six Assistant Professors (Ordinary Grade).
Our faculty members have published good number of
papers in reputed National and International Journals. The
Department has four Anna University recognized supervisors
to guide Ph.D. programme. Our lab has been recognized as
Research centre by Anna University Chennai, under this six
faculty members registered for part time Ph.D. Research
program.
The Department organizes various events like Guest lectures
on different topics for the students and faculty members. The
resource persons were called from different Indian Premier
Institutions.

OBJECTIVES:
The one day seminar, being arranged in our department is to
gather Scientists, Research Scholars Post graduate and Under
graduate students under one roof to understand the research
activities among interdisciplinary and to introduce the
emerging fields of technology to the budding researchers in
our country with emphasis on technological applications. The
experts are invited from Universities and renowned
laboratories. All aspects relating to novel materials like
Nanomaterials, Thin film, Optical materials and Solar cell for
energy storage applications and novel spectroscopic
techniques will be covered during this period. This seminar
would provide great exposure to the young researchers from
various parts of our country. We hope, it would create healthy
environment to the budding researchers and helpful to them
for exchanging ideas with experts and to know the lab facilities
available within our Country.
