Roosevelt Intermediate School - 2nd Marking Period
CONQUERING CANCER...Westfield High School students have teamed up with
the Four Diamonds Fund movement to conquer childhood cancer. To date, the
Westfield students have raised nearly $2,000 through canning and online efforts.
On Friday, March 20, they will be hosting a Mini-THON at the high school. The
Westfield High School Mini-THON will feature fun and games along with an epic
battle of student bands. For more information on the Mini-THON, or information

Establishes Lincoln Locker
GARWOOD – The members of the
Garwood EducationAssociation (GEA)
have been quite busy since the start of
the new school year. The 37 members
of the organization have organized and
participated in several community-service projects.
During the busy holiday season, association members organized a the collection of unwrapped toys from fellow
staff members, parents, and students
for Toys for Tots to be distributed to
children in need. Likewise the members personally donated supplies for
the PTA Winterfest, an evening at school
where Garwood’s children created crafts
with their families.
In February, in conjunction with the
Lincoln School Student Council, over
250 pairs of jeans were collected for the
national campaign called Teens for
Jeans. Gently used jeans were collected
throughout the month and were then
dropped at a local Aéropostale store.
Stores will deliver the jeans to a nearby
charity or homeless shelter for teens
and children in need. GEA members
kickstarted the drive with a donation of
68 pairs of jeans.
Currently, association members are
in the process of collecting supplies to
establish a Lincoln Locker. The “locker”
is an on-going project that will contain
supplies to be used by students of the
school community. The association has
recognized that there are students that
may not have the means to purchase
their own school supplies. The locker
would be available to them to help keep
them motivated and prepared for school.
Whether teaching in the classroom
or participating in community activities the members of the Garwood EducationAssociation always have the children and the community in the forefront
of their minds and hearts.
Senior Citizens’ Day to
Be Held at SP-FW HS
SCOTCH PLAINS – The Student
Government Association’s annual Senior Citizens’ Day will be held on
Thursday, March 26 at Scotch PlainsFanwood High School (SPFHS). The
day’s activities begin at 10 a.m. and end
at 1 p.m. This is a fun-filled day for
student volunteers and senior citizens
alike. The day will start off with a
complimentary breakfast, and guests
will enjoy performances by the
Moonglowers, dance team, Irish step
dancers, and step squad. Attendees will
also participate in games such as Name
that Tune and Bingo, as well as view
scenes from the school’s spring musical, Grease. A delicious catered lunch
by the SPFHS lunch staff will conclude
this wonderful day.

Senior Fashion Show
SCIENTIFIC WINNERS...The science teams from Mother Seton Regional High
School, Clark, once again captured 1st place honors in the second round of
competition in the New Jersey Science League. The Physics, Chemistry and
Biology teams all took up the challenge to maintain their first place ranking in their
district competition. Following a rigorous curriculum as well as Advanced
Placement level courses, the students are ready for the next round of competition.
Mother Seton Regional High School, a Catholic school for girls, features a four
year program that emphasizes academic excellence and Seton spirit. The school
recently celebrated its 50th year.

Named to Dean’s List
BOSTON, M.A. – MCPHS University is pleased to announce that James
Zambri has been named to the Dean’s
List for the Fall 2014 semester. James
is a native of Scotch Plains , and is
pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy. James
will graduate from the Boston, Massachusetts campus in 2020.
The Dean’s List recognizes those
students with a full-time course load
who have achieved outstanding scholarship with a 3.5 GPA or higher for
the academic term.
The mission of MCPHS University is to prepare students for successful careers in health care through excellence in teaching, scholarship, research, professional service, and community engagement. Founded in
1823, MCPHS University is the oldest institution of higher education in
the City of Boston. In addition to the

CRANFORD – The Cranford High
School Class of 2015 will host “Garden STate Exit 2015” Fashion Show
on Friday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the
Cranford High School Auditorium located at 201 West End Place, Cranford.
Come see this season’s prom dresses
and tuxedos modeled by Cranford High
School Seniors while enjoying the
sights and sounds of New Jersey.
Tickets are $10 each and can be
purchased in advance from a participating Cranford High School Senior
or at the Cranford High School library.
Tickets will be available the night of
the event at the auditorium box office.
Proceeds will benefit the Cranford
High School Project Graduation.

Philhower Fellowship award designated for a full-time elementary
teacher in the Westfield Public
Schools.

teacher must be a full-time faculty

the Westfield Public Schools for a

The fellowship recipient will be
honored at a Rotary luncheon and
at a Westfield Board of Education
meeting, both scheduled for Tuesday, May 5, and will receive a Rotary grant to further professional
growth or to enhance classroom
activities for students.
The award was instituted in 1993
by the Westfield Rotary Club to
recognize the importance of teaching in the elementary grades and to
honor Westfield Rotarian and
School Superintendent Charles
Philhower. Mr. Philhower, who died
in 1962, was Supervising Principal
(Superintendent) of Westfield Public Schools for 30 years – from
1917 to 1947 – and was President of
the Westfield Rotary Club in 192930. As Rotary President, he instituted the club’s annual scholarship
awards to graduating Westfield students.

been named to the Dean's List at
Boston University for the Fall semester. Students recognized for this
