The Senior Executive’s Toolkit
In order to progress to executive levels, leaders must rapidly expand their mindset and capabilities to deal with the challenges of senior leadership
and to perform as a strategic decision maker. Women seeking to break through to the next level of their careers must refine their leadership style
and people management skills in order to succeed.
Aspiring leaders who embrace an adaptive mindset will be able to inspire their followers to change their expectations, perceptions and motivations
to work towards common goals. Now, more than ever, there is also the opportunity for leaders to use their initiative and skills to transform their
organisations from within by influencing their colleagues and their own managers.
This course has been designed to support women by examining the critical success points and providing practical tools and skills which will ensure
key outcomes. Participants will understand the attributes of executive level leaders, common causes of leadership challenges, gain mechanisms for
leading under pressure and learn high-level communication skills to assist in managing change and dealing with difficult situations and people.
Participants will have the opportunity to network with other senior leaders in the Public Sector and take away the tools required to enhance
effectiveness and impact as a key decision-maker and agent of change. The course is ideal for any female leader seeking to succeed in a role that
focuses on leading teams and departments.

EXPERT COMMENTARY
Leading in a digital future - A transformational
experience
In today’s Public Sector, up-and-coming female leaders
are facing new and exciting opportunities. One of the most
transforming opportunities for the foreseeable future is digital
government. Governments around the world, including
federal, state/territory and local governments in Australia,
are refocusing their resources and priorities to rapidly move
the design and delivery of government services to digital
and online. For most of us, showing we can lead and make
the right calls on digital government issues is a challenging
one. In this session, Michelle draws on her own journey as a
leader in the public and corporate sectors, and experience
in transformative change as she dives into some of the main
leadership learnings including:
• Positive digital behaviour from the top
• The language of digital government
• Sponsoring innovative, lean and agile thinking

ABOUT THE EVENT
Although the Australian Public Sector is making considerable progress to enhance gender equality, significant differences still remain. Among a list of
workplace gender differences, sits the simple statistic that women make up only 39.5% of executive roles. With flexible workplace arrangements in
place to support women with families, what continues to hold women back?
The 5th National Public Sector Women in Leadership Summit 2015 is not an event about diversity and statistics, but rather about empowering
executive women to embark on their leadership journey and providing them with the vital tools and strategies to succeed. The summit will provide
an inspiring networking, learning and development platform for executive women to establish a community of support and practice, and to gain new
perspectives to drive their career. The event will equip emerging and existing female leaders with the strategies and skills to advance successfully and
reach their goals in the 2015 Public Sector.
