Delphi Scenario F (multi, 15 wks, $50k, 85%)
Simulation Workshop
Senior management expects you to release a new printer that
contains an advanced feature involving new technology (scope is
multi). This new technology exists but it is in a nascent state and is
still in flux. Your R&D team is working on refining it, but there’s still a
lot you don’t know about it (need for prototyping warning). To make
matters more complicated, you think your main competitor might also
be working on incorporating this technology into their new offering
(increase in scope warning), though your market intelligence on
exactly what they’re doing is incomplete and probably unreliable.
Schedule is tight on this project (15 weeks), since management would
like to release the printer containing this advanced feature before the
competition, but your budget is also substantially higher due to
expected development complications ($50k).

Result after Week 1
For Mar 12, in 10 runs or less, maximize your score (and try to
meet target cost). Everyone starts with Week 1 conditions.
Scoring: scope=300, schedule=200, cost=400, process=100
Events
1) Car accident (wk7)
2) Technology failure (wk10)
3) More tasks (wk11)
4) Materials shortage (wk 14/15)
15 x $3,333 = $50k
or
$50k/200 = $250/task

Homework next week (Wed March 18 @ 11pm)
1) Resubmit H8, with enough detail in Adopted Response
column of the table, such that a fellow student could
reproduce the score of your submitted best run in H8.
Different strategies,
but same result ?
2) Write 1000 words (“word count” from Review tab in Word)
a) lessons learned from simulation
b) weaknesses in simulation (anything misleading ?)
Formal template to be posted on March 17, along lines of:

Contingency planning
