CHURCH ORGAN
Have you noticed the
choir sitting to the right of the
Altar at Sunday Masses rather
than in the choir loft? Our pipe
organ is as old as the church,
slightly over 100 years old.
Although it has been rebuilt and an electronic
console was installed during its many years, the
guts of the organ have lived out their life expectancy. Pipe organ repair is costly, so we are looking at options regarding what steps to take next
for our most important musical instrument. In the
meantime, duct tape, super glue, and prayer are
the best friends of our organ!

SPIRITUAL ADOPTION
Dear Cathedral Parishioners & Friends:
Since the Roe vs. Wade decision in 1973, the
number of abortions has increased to 1.2 million
annually. Although recently there are reports of a
slight decline in the abortion rate, other assaults
on human life are increasing at an alarming rate. I
am asking you to increase your awareness and
sensitivity to the preciousness of human life by
considering a commitment to pray daily for one
unborn child who might be in danger of being
aborted.
The Cathedral ProLife Committee is asking
each of us to “spiritually adopt” one unknown baby for the next nine
months. We will each pray for the child we’ve chosen that he or she
will be carried to term and experience the fullness of life, just as God
intends.
Picture for a moment a young woman who just this week has discovered she is seven weeks pregnant. What she may not know is that
her baby’s heart has been beating for four weeks, it can flex its fingers
and toes, suck on his or her thumb, and is totally dependent on her. She
might be scared and confused and may not know where to turn. She
may well be considering terminating her pregnancy and be under pressure from others to do this. She may think she has no other option. But
many people—like us—do care enough to help her and her child. Our
prayer can make a difference between whether this child will be born
or not. Our prayer can also be a form of spiritual support for both
mothers and for fathers of children who try to make the holiest of decisions.
Please take a prayer card placed at the end of each pew and pray
the ten-second prayer daily for your “adopted child.” You are also encouraged to name your baby and give him or her identity. At the end of
the nine-month period we will celebrate the “birth” of our spiritually
adopted babies with a baby shower. In this way we can also help, in a
very tangible way, the mother as she brings to term a beautiful gift of
life. All gifts collected at the shower will be given to Catholic Charities
to help mothers in need.
Father Ed Steiner
LENTEN SACRIFICE
FOR
RESPECT
OF
HUMAN LIFE
We have the opportunity to “spiritually adopt” a child who is newly conceived this month. Not all newly conceived babies are allowed to
be born. In fact, more than 3,200 babies lose their lives to abortion
each day. It is these babies you are being asked to “adopt.” You may
“adopt” a child individually or as a family. Sign up after Mass this
weekend. You will be asked to name the child for whom you will be
praying, thereby acknowledging the baby’s humanity. You will be
asked to pray for your unborn child and for all unborn children, for the
power of prayer is great. For any question contact Respect Life members Roy Silveira at [email protected] or Pam Holzmer at
