Postage and packing
Our standard postage and packing charge is £3.35 for retail customers
within the UK but may be reduced for small items. For overseas export
customers and for trade customers, postage is charged at cost.
Trading terms
Payment can be made in GBP pounds sterling using a cheque drawn on a
UK bank account, made payable to Brian Robinson. For overseas retail
customers, bank cards can be used to make payment on the PayPal secure
web payment system at http://www.paypal.co.uk/. Please email us for the
PayPal payment details for a particular order. Please do not send any of
your bank card details to us.
Supply of all items is subject to availability, with current stock shown on the
web site. Payment is required before delivery. Cheques are not cashed until

Metal tram kits
HO scale 1:87
BEC-KITS manufacture a wide range of model tramcar kits in whitemetal (a
lead/tin alloy). The present wide range of kits are HO scale models of
Continental trams from a variety of countries, with the features:

The tram kits contain metal body parts, clear plastic glazing and
unmotorised trucks to make a static model.
The kits come with detailed instructions and construction diagrams.
Each kit has transfers/decals for an appropriate tramway system.
Working pantographs or bow collectors are included in kits 20, 25,
27, 30, 34, 38, 43 and 45.
The kits 19, 28, 28a, 29, 30, 31, 32, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41 and 42 have
two unmotorised bogies. Kit 45 has three unmotorised bogies.
Kit 30c is a small conversion kit of parts to use with the full kit 30.

Ready-to-run, replacement motorised 2 axle trucks or bogie pairs in pewter
are available separately for the motor trams, with part numbers listed by the
kits. The motorised trucks are wired for two-rail 12V D.C. current collection
with a powerful Mabuchi motor and brass gears for a long working life.

lead/tin alloy). The present range of kits are HO scale models of Hamburg
Hochbahn cars, with the features:

For motorising Tower Trams kits, MEEQ bogies are used for the 'Cissie' trams TK06,
07, 08 and 10. The MEMT bogies are used for all the others. Models run best when
ftted with two motorised bogies and additional weight in the tram body. The tram's
plastic lower deck foor is omitted and the metal bolsters supplied to carry the
bogies are glued across the lower saloon of the kit, just below the window line at the
appropriate position.

KW Trams
Motorised trucks
HO/OO gauge
KW Trams now manufacture the previous wide range of BEC built, ready-torun motorised tramcar trucks and bogies. Those listed here are designed
for our model tramcar kits. Some of the truck features are:
• The trucks are designed with RP25 wheels for 16.5mm gauge track to
universal standards (e.g. PECO track) for both HO gauge 1:87 Continental
models and OO gauge 1:76 scale British models.
• The trucks are wired for two-rail current collection, although they can be
altered by simple soldering for operation with a live overhead and
common track return.
• The trucks use a powerful Mabuchi motor and the current consumption is
about 0.3 Amps at 12V DC. They use 20:1 reduction brass gears for
realistically slow, trouble-free running over a long working life and
insulated, blackened, brass Romford wheels of sizes 7, 9 and 10.5mm.
KW Trams
Fixed tram trucks
HO/OO gauge
These mechanisms represent the fixed
tramcar trucks fitted to short 2 axle
trams. The ME34D09 truck illustrated
here has a 34mm wheelbase, 9mm
wheels and both axles driven.
• The longer trucks have two axle drive
and the shorter trucks only have a
single axle drive.

KW Trams
Motorised bogies
HO/OO gauge
These mechanisms represent the swivelling, short bogie trucks fitted to
bogie trams and to older articulated trams. The MEEQ equal wheel bogies
illustrated here have an 18mm wheelbase and equal 9mm wheels.
• The bogie trucks only have a single axle drive because of the limited space
between the axles for the motor.
• All the bogies are supplied with 9mm wheels for the driven axle. The
trailing axle normally has 9mm wheels, except in the case of the
maximum traction bogies which have 7mm wheels on the trailing axle.
• A single motorised bogie is sufficient to drive the weight of a plastic tram
kit, so all the bogies are also available in unmotorised form. However,
most models run better when fitted with two motorised bogies and with
additional weight in the tram body. Simple soldering can be used to wire
the bogies together to share pickups.
• The bogie trucks are usually supplied in pairs as a reversed pair of bogies,
ready wired for mounting symmetrically back to back, with common
electrical return through a metal tramcar body. When ordering, please
specify tram type for the length of the wiring.
• The bogies are supplied with a flat metal bogie bolster, for fitting the bogie
into the tram, and a press stud pair for pivoting the bogie under the
bolster. The female press stud is mounted with the springs aligned along
the tram body. Cyanoacrylate superglue, Evostic or epoxy resin glue may
be used for fixing the bolsters and press studs.
• The prices below are each for a pair of motorised bogies with bolsters and
press studs.

Overhead parts
HO scale 1:87
The Sommerfeldt overhead traction
poles, continental tram pantographs and
bow collectors are designed specifcally
for continental trams with a wire height
of 73mm. The diamond pantographs and
single arm pantographs are designed for
railway locomotives but are similar to
modern tram pantographs.
The pantographs are also suitable for OO scale trams but the HO scale traction poles
are rather short for the normal OO scale overhead wiring height of 80mm.

TLRS
Tramway and
Light Railway Society
If you are interested in tramcars, tramways and modelling trams in
particular, BEC-KITS strongly recommend that you join the TLRS Tramway
and Light Railway Society. The TLRS is a registered National Charity and is
the UK society for everyone interested in tramways and especially tramway
modelling.
Founded in 1938, the TLRS now has about a thousand members. The
Society publishes an excellent bi-monthly magazine called TramFare. There
are keen modelling groups in the Society covering most scales, with the
strongest representation in 1:16, G scale and 'Sub-7mm', which covers O,
OO, HO, HOm and N scales. There are active Area Groups in many parts
of the UK and also in Germany, which hold regular varied meetings,
exhibitions and exchange modelling information.
