Dear Alice:
It is a pleasure for me to inform you that you have been selected as a recipient of the Chamber’s
Chair of the Board Award in the field of community health. No more than six individuals are chosen
for this award each year.
You began your tenure at McKenna in 2006, having grown up in New Braunfels. The McKenna
Foundation was established in 2008 with a mission to advance the well-being of the New
Braunfels community, and no one has done more to fulfill that mission as their Executive Director
of Grants. You carefully screen, review and clarify all grant proposals received by the Foundation.
You have been the driving force at McKenna for the development of projects that will bring a larger
San Antonio Food Bank and their traditional living facility to New Braunfels. You have also been
the point person in several strategic grant awards including $250,000 to the CRRC, $525,000 to
The Kitchen Table for food distribution and health-related education, $335,000 to Communities in
Schools for the after school program, $200,000 to Family Promise to establish a presence in the
community for homeless families, $470,000 to the Bulverde-Spring Branch EMS for a mobile
health clinic/educational lab, and $525,000 in seed funding for the New Braunfels Area
Community Foundation. This particular Foundation, as you know, was an outgrowth of a Chamber
of Commerce Board Planning Retreat.
In addition to your duties at the Foundation, you direct the staff and activities of the McKenna
Children’s Museum and also watch over the operations of the McKenna Events Center and Café.
You received your Bachelor’s Degree from University of Texas in Austin and your Master’s
Degree in Public Administration from Texas A&M. You previously worked for the American Red
Cross in Fort Worth and are a graduate of Leadership New Braunfels.
For these reasons and many more, we invite you and Jeff to be our guests at the Chamber’s
Annual Meeting and Banquet set for January 29, 2016 in the New Braunfels Civic Convention
Center. At that time we will further honor you with a framed certificate in appreciation for your
efforts in the field of community health.
